Dear Senator Pryor, here are some spending cut suggestions (“Thirsty Thursday”, Open letter to Senator Pryor)

Senator Pryor pictured below:

Why do I keep writing and email Senator Pryor suggestions on how to cut our budget? I gave him hundreds of ideas about how to cut spending and as far as I can tell he has taken none of my suggestions. You can find some of my suggestions here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here,  here, and  here, and they all were emailed to him. In fact, I have written 13 posts pointing out reasons why I believe Senator Pryor’s re-election attempt will be unsuccessful. HERE I GO AGAIN WITH ANOTHER EMAIL I JUST SENT TO SENATOR PRYOR!!!

Dear Senator Pryor,

Why not pass the Balanced  Budget amendment? As you know that federal deficit is at all time high (1.6 trillion deficit with revenues of 2.2 trillion and spending at 3.8 trillion).

On my blog www.thedailyhatch.org . I took you at your word and sent you over 100 emails with specific spending cut ideas. (Actually there were over 160 emails with specific spending cut suggestions.) However, I did not see any of them in the recent debt deal that Congress adopted although you did respond to me several times. Now I am trying another approach. Every week from now on I will send you an email explaining different reasons why we need the Balanced Budget Amendment or I send you specific spending cut suggestions. It will appear on my blog on “Thirsty Thursday” because the government is always thirsty for more money to spend.

IF YOU TRULY WANT TO CUT THE BUDGET AND BALANCE THE BUDGET THEN SUBMIT THESE POTENTIAL BUDGET CUTS PRESENTED BELOW!!

What Can We Cut to Balance the Budget

Published on Oct 16, 2012

If the U.S. government cut all government services except Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and payments on the debt, federal spending would still outpace revenues. Prof. Antony Davies argues that there are not specific cuts that will enable government to balance the budget. He says, “Nothing less than a redesign will solve this problem.” That redesign should begin by determining what the proper role of government is.

_______________

Sallie James wrote in October 2012:

Policymakers should terminate the Export-Import Bank. The agency does not play a crucial role in international trade, and there is no reason why U.S. exporters deserve favored treatment over U.S. businesses with domestic sales. Rather than fixing market failures, the bank creates economic distortions of its own. U.S. exports have grown impressively over the years, despite only a very small proportion of them being supported by Ex-Im financing.

The federal government should urge other nations to cut their own export subsidies. It may be beneficial to move negotiations on export subsidies from the OECD to the WTO, which has a broader membership and a better system for resolving disputes and enforcing rulings. But U.S. policymakers should not retain the Ex-Im Bank merely because other nations are following misguided subsidy policies.

There are successful trade liberalization episodes that demonstrate the benefits of U.S. reform leadership. The Information Technology Agreement and the agreements on telecommunications and financial services, for example, were all negotiated through the World Trade Organization at the urging of the United States, even though it already had a zero tariff rate for semiconductors and offered only to lock in current levels of openness for telecommunications and financial services. For export credits, too, other countries may follow the United States in repeal because adopting sound policies is in their best interests and because American promises to lock in current practices are considered valuable.

In sum, none of the reasons offered for the Ex-Im Bank’s continued existence are convincing. Private credit markets are far deeper and are more accessible today than when the bank was created in the 1930s. The Ex-Im Bank’s resources are mainly used to assist large corporations that have little trouble obtaining their own private financing. Export subsidies do not increase employment overall, nor do they have any substantial impact on the trade balance. Finally, it is simply not fair for the government to pick and choose certain businesses to subsidize at the expense of other businesses and the broader economy.

The Balanced Budget Amendment is the only thing I can think of that would force Washington to cut spending. We have only a handful of balanced budgets in the last 60 years, so obviously what we are doing is not working. We are passing along this debt to the next generation. YOUR APPROACH HAS BEEN TO REJECT THE BALANCED BUDGET “BECAUSE WE SHOULD CUT THE BUDGET OURSELF,” WELL THEN HERE IS YOUR CHANCE!!!! SUBMIT THESE CUTS!!!!

Thank you for this opportunity to share my ideas with you.

Sincerely,

Everette Hatcher, lowcostsqueegees@yahoo.com www.thedailyhatch.org, 13900 Cottontail Lane, Alexander, AR 72002, ph 501-920-5733

Open letter to President Obama (Part 421) Taking on Ark Times Bloggers on various issues Part A “The Pro-life Issue” (Francis Schaeffer Quotes Part 1 includes the film SLAUGHTER OF THE INNOCENTS) (editorial cartoon)

(Emailed to White House on 3-4-13.)

President Obama c/o The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President,

I know that you receive 20,000 letters a day and that you actually read 10 of them every day. I really do respect you for trying to get a pulse on what is going on out here.

I wanted to share with you some about my pro-life perspective.

I have gone back and forth and back and forth with many liberals on the Arkansas Times Blog on many issues such as abortion, human rights, welfare, poverty, gun control  and issues dealing with popular culture. Here is another exchange I had with them a while back. My username at the Ark Times Blog is Saline Republican.

On 2-19-13 I asserted on the Ark Times Blog, “Abortion should be illegal.”

On 2-19-13 “the Outlier” responded on the Ark Times Blog :

Since Saline can never walk in a pregnant woman’s shoes (and neither can any of these portly politicians), maybe he should just keep his nose and vaginal probes out of their business. Unless the fetus is his, he should never have a say.

On 2-19-13 “the HardHeadWoman” asserted on the Ark Times Blog :

Saline appears to have a very bad case of ‘anti-choice Tourettes’.
Just can’t help himself. He can’t go 5 minutes without blurting out some ridiculous abortion talking point.

On 2-19-13 “Norma Bates” asked on the Ark Times Blog :

I’ll bite. WHY, exactly, should abortion be illegal, Saline? This is the place to share your reasoning.

On 2-19-13 I responded to what Norma had asked on the Ark Times Blog :

Norma the answer is that genetics tells us that the unborn baby has the same genetic code that a full grown human has. Here is all the quotes from scientists including my atheist friend Dr Kevin Henke. https://thedailyhatch.org/2011/06/23/ark-ti…

I was also moved by David Sanders interview with the abortionist Dr William F Harrison concerning advice he gave to abort about 25 years ago to a 16 yr old pregnant girl. The you girl did not abort and her daughter is now graduating with a masters because her mother rejected Dr Harrison’s advice. Dr Harrison admitted that sent a cold chill down his spine when thinks of his advice.

Dr. C. Everett Koop said that everyone that advocates abortion has the benefit of already being born. What if you were to ask that lady today if her mother should have taken Dr Harrison’s advice?

_________

Actually I used to write  a lot of letters to the editor in the 1990’s about pro-life issues and I found that a Mr. William F. Harrison from Fayetteville was constantly taking the other side and being critical of my letters with his letters to the editor. I found out many years later that he ran the biggest abortion clinic in the state of Arkansas.

I truly believe that many of the problems we have today in the USA are due to the advancement of humanism in the last few decades in our society. Ronald Reagan appointed the evangelical Dr. C. Everett Koop to the position of Surgeon General in his administration. He partnered with Dr. Francis Schaeffer in making the video below. It is very valuable information for Christians to have.  Actually I have included a video below that includes comments from him on this subject.

In the film series “WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE HUMAN RACE?” the arguments are presented  against abortion (Episode 1),  infanticide (Episode 2),   euthenasia (Episode 3), and then there is a discussion of the Christian versus Humanist worldview concerning the issue of “the basis for human dignity” in Episode 4 and then in the last episode a close look at the truth claims of the Bible.

What happens to a society that has no basis for values? Francis Schaeffer knew where that would lead:

“Humanism, man beginning only from himself, had destroyed the old basis of values, and could find no way to generate with certainty any new values. In the resulting vacuum the impoverished values of personal peace and affluence had come to stand supreme.”

Francis Schaeffer Quotes

Posted by Matt on March 6, 2012

Francis Schaeffer would have celebrated his 100th birthday in January. I’m obviously a couple months late with this, but here are a few quotes in remembrance of a life well lived.

Francis Schaeffer

“Think of this great flaming phrase: “certain inalienable rights.” Who gives the rights? The state? Then they are not inalienable because the state can change them and take them away. Where do the rights come from? [Jefferson and others] understood that they were founding the country upon the concept that goes back into the Judeo-Christian thinking that there is Someone there who gave the inalienable rights.”

–

“In passing, we should note this curious mark of our own age: the only absolute allowed is the absolute insistence that there is no absolute.”

–

“Humanism, man beginning only from himself, had destroyed the old basis of values, and could find no way to generate with certainty any new values. In the resulting vacuum the impoverished values of personal peace and affluence had come to stand supreme.”

–

“Biblical orthodoxy without compassion is surely the ugliest thing in the world.”

–

“But if I live in a world of nonabsolutes and would fight social injustice on the mood of the moment, how can I establish what social justice is? What criterion do I have to distinguish between right and wrong so that I can know what I should be fighting? Is it not possible that I could in fact acquiesce in evil and stamp out good? The word love cannot tell me how to discern, for within the humanistic framework love can have no defined meaning.”

–

“There is no place for love in a totally closed cause and effect system.”

Here is a great pro-life cartoon:

Thank you so much for your time. I know how valuable it is. I also appreciate the fine family that you have and your commitment as a father and a husband.

Sincerely,

Everette Hatcher III, 13900 Cottontail Lane, Alexander, AR 72002, ph 501-920-5733, lowcostsqueegees@yahoo.com

Pure Heroine is the début studio album by New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde, planned for release on 24 September 2013, through Universal Music. The première will be six weeks before Ella Yelich-O’Connor (aka Lorde)’s seventeenth birthday, having been spotted at the age of twelve by A&R scout Scott Maclachlan, who signed her to Universal records. Recording for the album started soon after she released the critically acclaimed extended play The Love Club EP (March 2013).[citation needed] Yelich-O’Connor co-wrote the album with its producer, Joel Little.

The album was preceded by the release of The Love Club EP single “Royals“, which peaked at number one in New Zealand as well as peaking within the top five of Australia, Canada and America. “Royals” was followed by the release of “Tennis Court” in June 2013. In mid-September 2013, the third single, “Team” was released.

Background

“The goal for me is to make a body of work that is cohesive, that feels like an album and is something that I’m going to be proud of. I’m working on an album at the moment and it seems a lot of albums lately don’t feel like a cohesive set of songs that complement each other and mean something as a group. If I can make something which does feel like that, and feels right and true and good, then I will have succeeded.”

 — Yelich-O’Connor, on her objectives for Pure Heroine.[2]

From the age of 14, Yelich-O’Connor worked with Universal to develop her sound and artistic vision. She was spotted at the age of 12 by A&R scout Scott Maclachlan, after he saw a video of her singing in a talent show at her school, Belmont Intermediate.[3] Maclachlan later signed her to Universal at the age of 13 and began working with songwriters at 14. Yelich-O’Connor began writing songs at the age of “13 or 14” using her guitar.[4][5]

Having had recording under-way in November 2012,[6] The Love Club EP was released digitally in March 2013, and on CD in May 2013, with five songs including the number one hit “Royals“. On 27 May 2013, “Royals” was covered by girl group Gap 5, on New Zealand television’s The X Factor and mentored by Melanie Blatt.

Immediately prior to beginning work on Pure Heroine, Yelich-O’Connor stated her intentions for the début album to be a “cohesive” work.[2] As with The Love Club EP, Pure Heroine was recorded with producer Joel Little at Golden Age Studios in Auckland.[7][8]

Lead single “Royals” is a minimal art pop song of an experimental nature; it incorporates elements from different genres to create a new sound. Along with mainly chillwave, the song is influenced by indie pop, pop, downtempo, ambient, and blues. It follows the typical blues chord progression of D-C-G and is written in the key of D at a slow tempo of 84 BPM. It is written in common time. The song has a similar rhythm to a snap song.[citation needed]

Lorde wrote the lyrics to “Royals” in only half an hour.[9] She was influenced by rap music and singer Lana Del Rey “I was listening to a lot of rap, but also a lot of Lana Del Rey, because she’s obviously really hip-hop influenced, but all those references to expensive alcohol, beautiful clothes and beautiful cars – I was thinking, ‘This is so opulent, but it’s also bullshit.’”[10]

The album’s sixth song, “Team”, contains a “crashing, synth-heavy beat” and was described by Billboard as being “darkly melodic.”[11] Lyrically, the song touches up on her “disconnect with modern pop music” and the difference between onscreen portrayals and reality.[11]

Singles

Officially released digitally in March 2013, and on CD on May 2013, The Love Club EP featured five songs including “Royals“. “Royals” debuted at number 1 on the New Zealand Top 40 on 15 March 2013 and remained in the top position for three weeks.[12] On the same day, The Love Club EP debuted in the number 2 position on the album chart, behind David Bowie’s The Next Day, which also debuted that week. In August 2013, Lorde became the first woman to top the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in the United States since Tracy Bonham in 1996.[13]

The “Tennis Court” single was released in New Zealand on 8 June 2013.[14] The Tennis Court EP was released digitally in the UK on 7 June (due to the timezone difference) and physically on 22 June.[15][16] It was played during the BBC coverage of the 2013 Wimbledon Championships Ladies Final. On 14 June 2013, Lorde’s single debuted at number 1 on the New Zealand Top 40 singles chart. In the same week, she also became the first New Zealand artist to simultaneously have four songs in the top 20 tracks of the New Zealand Top 40. Previously, Titanium held this record with three songs.[17]

“Team” is the third single from the album.[18] It was leaked by Australian radio station Triple J on 12 September and as a result, the single was released digitally in Australia and New Zealand on 13 September.[11][19][20] The single became available in the United States on 13 September as part of the pre-order for Pure Heroine.[21]

There is a difference between believing the Bible is true and the Bible contains truth

There is a difference between believing the Bible is true and the Bible contains truth

The Scientific Age

Uploaded by  on Oct 3, 2011

I love the works of Francis Schaeffer and I have been on the internet reading several blogs that talk about Schaeffer’s work and the work below was really helpful. Schaeffer’s film series “How should we then live?  Wikipedia notes, “According to Schaeffer, How Should We Then Live traces Western history from Ancient Rome until the time of writing (1976) along three lines: the philosophic, scientific, and religious.[3] He also makes extensive references to art and architecture as a means of showing how these movements reflected changing patterns of thought through time. Schaeffer’s central premise is: when we base society on the Bible, on the infinite-personal God who is there and has spoken,[4] this provides an absolute by which we can conduct our lives and by which we can judge society.  Here are some posts I have done on this series: Francis Schaeffer’s “How should we then live?” Video and outline of episode 10 “Final Choices” , episode 9 “The Age of Personal Peace and Affluence”, episode 8 “The Age of Fragmentation”, episode 7 “The Age of Non-Reason” , episode 6 “The Scientific Age” ,  episode 5 “The Revolutionary Age” , episode 4 “The Reformation”,  episode 3 “The Renaissance”, episode 2 “The Middle Ages,”, and  episode 1 “The Roman Age,” .

In the film series “WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE HUMAN RACE?” the arguments are presented  against abortion (Episode 1),  infanticide (Episode 2),   euthanasia (Episode 3), and then there is a discussion of the Christian versus Humanist worldview concerning the issue of “the basis for human dignity” in Episode 4 and then in the last episode a close look at the truth claims of the Bible.

__________________________

I truly believe that many of the problems we have today in the USA are due to the advancement of humanism in the last few decades in our society. Ronald Reagan appointed the evangelical Dr. C. Everett Koop to the position of Surgeon General in his administration. He partnered with Dr. Francis Schaeffer in making the video below. It is very valuable information for Christians to have.  Actually I have included a video below that includes comments from him on this subject.

Ideas Have Consequences

by Henry Morris III, D.Min. *

“Argument weak at this point. Thump podium and holler louder!”

This cliché is quoted derisively from time to time to demonstrate that all arguments have presuppositional beginnings that are logically and empirically “weak.” Every idea, all religions (belief systems)–even scientific theories–have foundational concepts that are unprovable by physical means and intellectual acumen.

This is so commonly understood and widely accepted that we rarely think about this ubiquitous condition. Everybody believes in something. Even the atheist believes that there is no God; there is certainly no way to “prove” such a concept. All men and women have faith that their particular presuppositions provide an adequate basis for their actions and lifestyles.

That broad set of presuppositions is also known as a worldview.

Dallas Willard relates a concept in his book Divine Conspiracy that he occasionally uses in his classes:

In our culture one is considered educated if one “knows the right answers.” That is, if one knows which answers are the correct ones. I sometimes joke with my students at the university where I teach by asking them if they believe what they wrote on their tests. They always laugh. They know belief is not required. Belief only controls life.1

Belief controls life. Now that piece of wisdom is important!

Jesus said it this way:

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. (Luke 6:45)

Belief controls life. Ideas have consequences.

  • What you believe determines what you think.
  • What you think dictates what you do.
  • And what you do dominates your life.

In 1981, Francis Schaeffer wrote A Christian Manifesto as a response to a “new” Humanist Manifesto. As he opened his critique of the humanist’s thinking, Dr. Schaeffer noted the fundamental “change in the overall way people think and view the world and life as a whole. This shift has been away from a world view that was at least vaguely Christian in people’s memory (even if they were not individually Christian) toward something completely different–toward a world view based upon the idea that the final reality is impersonal matter or energy shaped into its present form by impersonal chance.”2

This wholesale shift in thinking has so permeated the evangelical church that most Christians struggle with the concept of an almighty, omniscient Creator to whom they must answer one day. The pervasive symptom of this change in thinking is the shift away from trusting the revealed Word of God as an absolute source of truth from the God who cannot lie (Titus 1:2).

Many evangelical churches believe that the Bible may “contain” truth, but that one can no longer be certain of its authority, accuracy, or applicability. Science has supposedly rendered the early chapters of Genesis either useless as history or downright deceptive. Scholars have uncovered so-called “new” secrets about the Lord Jesus and about the Bible. Famous preachers, politicians, and celebrities loudly proclaim allegiance to Jesus, only to be exposed in some scandal that would embarrass the heathen.

We have come far–but certainly not in the right direction! What, then, is the possibility or the potential for righteous correction?

Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (Psalm 119:9-11)

May the heart of the great Creator, whose word spoke the heavens into existence, draw us this day into a certainty about His inspired word of truth.

Postal Service Won’t Shut Down but Will Default on Its Debt

October 1, 2013 at 9:30 am

Newscom

Newscom

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) defaulted on its debt last night. No, it has nothing to do with the partial shutdown of the government. The USPS is not affected by that. Rather, it has its very own, parallel fiscal crisis that threatens its viability as an institution.

Yesterday’s default—on $5.6 billion owed to the U.S. Treasury for funding of retiree health benefits—will be the third such default in as many years. The USPS just doesn’t have the money. After seven straight years of deficits, the USPS is just about out of cash. And things are likely to get worse before they get better: Postmaster General Patrick Donahue reports that by mid-October, the government-owned enterprise will have no more than five days’ worth of cash on hand. That’s a dangerously low amount. With an unexpected uptick in expenses or slowdown in revenue, the USPS’s coffers could be wiped clean.

A shutdown on operations is unlikely. Mail will be delivered next month, but the present path is unsustainable.

Some blame the Postal Service’s financial woes on the very debts it has defaulted on, which are used to pre-fund the USPS’s obligations to its retirees. But the root cause goes deeper: the rapidly shrinking volume of mail, as consumers move to electronic forms of communication. Since 2007 alone, the amount of first-class mail has shrunk 30 percent. Another 40 percent may be gone by 2020.

The Postal Service itself has long been sounding the alarm on this growing financial crisis. To address the short-term lack of cash, it has requested an increase in postage rates. But more fundamental reform is needed to give the Postal Service a chance at long-term survival.

Congress, however, has blocked reform at every turn. Plans to save money by reducing Saturday deliveries and reducing the number of post offices have been blocked on Capitol Hill. Unless these and other restrictions on the USPS’s efforts to reform itself are lifted, the Postal Service’s future—and taxpayers’ pocketbooks—will be at risk.

U.S. Postal Service Default Posted by Tad DeHaven No, the U.S. Postal Service won’t close on August 1st because it can’t afford to make a required $5.5 billion payment into a federal fund for postal retiree health benefits. Federal government should not be involved with post office

Private entrepreneurs can solve our post office problem

Debating the Founding Fathers with Ark Times Bloggers Part 5 Greg Koukl “What Did the Founding Fathers Believe and Value?”

I have gone back and forth and back and forth with many liberals on the Arkansas Times Blog on many issues such as abortion, human rights, welfare, poverty, gun control  and issues dealing with popular culture , but the issue of the founding fathers’ views on religion got one of the biggest responses.

It is true that 29 of the signers of the Declaration of Independence had degrees with Bible Colleges or Seminaries and these men we know were God-fearing Protestants. This means they had a biblical view of man with an understanding of our sin nature and this led them to come up with a limited government with many checks and balances. They had a strong belief in the afterlife and in future punishments and rewards. They also encouraged Christianity and were not hostile to religion. However, they did not set up a Christian Theocracy but wanted freedom of religion.

People really are losing their faith in big government and they want more liberty back. It seems to me we have to get back to the founding  principles that made our country great.  We also need to realize that a big government will encourage waste and corruption. The recent scandals in our government have proved my point. In fact, the jokes President Obama made at Ohio State about possibly auditing them are not so funny now that reality shows how the IRS was acting more like a monster out of control.  Here is a clip discussing the founders and what their religious views were.

David Barton: Declaration and Constitution Are Based Entirely On The Bible

Here is some comments from our debate on the Arkansas Times Blog in July of 2013:

YossarianMinderBinder, you think David Barton is a con man. I think if you look at the historical facts that he puts forth then you will come to a different conclusion. Tell me how you can deal with these historical facts from Greg Koukl?

https://thedailyhatch.org/2012/09/12/open-l…

In a letter to the White House in 2012 I included these words by Greg Koukl:

Who Were the Founding Fathers?
Historical proof-texts can be raised on both sides. Certainly there were godless men among the early leadership of our nation, though some of those cited as examples of Founding Fathers turn out to be insignificant players. For example, Thomas Paine and Ethan Allen may have been hostile to evangelical Christianity, but they were firebrands of the Revolution, not intellectual architects of the Constitution. Paine didn’t arrive in this country until 1774 and only stayed a short time.As for others–George Washington, Samuel Adams, James Madison, John Witherspoon, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, John Adams, Patrick Henry, and even Thomas Jefferson–their personal correspondence, biographies, and public statements are replete with quotations showing that these thinkers had political philosophies deeply influenced by Christianity. The Constitutional ConventionIt’s not necessary to dig through the diaries, however, to determine which faith was the Founder’s guiding light. There’s an easier way to settle the issue. The phrase “Founding Fathers” is a proper noun. It refers to a specific group of men, the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention. There were other important players not in attendance, like Jefferson, whose thinking deeply influenced the shaping of our nation. These 55 Founding Fathers, though, made up the core. The denominational affiliations of these men were a matter of public record. Among the delegates were 28 Episcopalians, 8 Presbyterians, 7 Congregationalists, 2 Lutherans, 2 Dutch Reformed, 2 Methodists, 2 Roman Catholics, 1 unknown, and only 3 deists–Williamson, Wilson, and Franklin–this at a time when church membership entailed a sworn public confession of biblical faith.[1]This is a revealing tally. It shows that the members of the Constitutional Convention, the most influential group of men shaping the political foundations of our nation, were almost all Christians, 51 of 55–a full 93%. Indeed, 70% were Calvinists (the Episcopalians, Presbyterians, and the Dutch Reformed), considered by some to be the most extreme and dogmatic form of Christianity….

What Did the Founding Fathers Believe and Value?
When you study the documents of the Revolutionary period, a precise picture comes into focus. Here it is:

Virtually all those involved in the founding enterprise were God-fearing men in the Christian sense; most were Calvinistic Protestants.
The Founders were deeply influenced by a biblical view of man and government. With a sober understanding of the fallenness of man, they devised a system of limited authority and checks and balances.
The Founders understood that fear of God, moral leadership, and a righteous citizenry were necessary for their great experiment to succeed.
Therefore, they structured a political climate that was encouraging to Christianity and accommodating to religion, rather than hostile to it.
Protestant Christianity was the prevailing religious view for the first 150 years of our history.

However…

The Fathers sought to set up a just society, not a Christian theocracy.
They specifically prohibited the establishment of Christianity–or any other faith–as the religion of our nation.

Figuring out Lorde’s Christian Roots Part 5 (UPDATED)

Figuring out Lorde’s Christian Roots Part 5

UPDATED (David Bruce commented “She didn’t say she was a big Jesus believer. She said she was a big Yeezus believer. Which is a Kanye West album. Which incidentally is a blasphemous, hateful piece of garbage from what I’ve heard of it.” This sets me straight concerning what Lorde said in the video that I saw. She did not say that she was a “big Jesus believer.” )

It is hard to figure out this New Zealand newcomer and her Christian roots but I am going to attempt to in this series of posts. Here is an interview where she describes herself as a “big Jesus believer.”

In the song “Tennis Court”.

I have to admit that I was disappointed that she cursed in this song below but there is no need for it.

Don’t you think that it’s boring how people talk
Making smart with their words again – well, I’m bored
Because I’m doing this for the thrill of it, killing it
Never not chasing the million things I want
And I am only as young as the minute is full of it
Getting pumped up on the little bright things I bought
But I know they’ll never own me, yeah

Baby, be the class clown, I’ll be the beauty queen in tears
It’s a new art form showing people how little we care, yeah
We’re so happy even when we’re smiling out of fear
Let’s go down to the tennis court and talk it up like, yeah, yeah

Pretty soon I’ll be getting on my first plane
I’ll see the veins of my city like they do in space
But my head’s filling up fast with the wicked games, up in flames
How can they f&*% with the fun again when I’m known
And my boys trip me up with their heads again, loving them
Everything’s cool when we’re all in line for the throne
But I know it’s not forever, yeah

Baby, be the class clown, I’ll be the beauty queen in tears
It’s a new art form showing people how little we care, yeah
We’re so happy even when we’re smiling out of fear
Let’s go down to the tennis court and talk it up like, yeah, yeah

It looked alright in the pictures, yeah
Getting caught’s off with the trip though, isn’t it, yeah
I’ll fall apart, with all my heart, yeah
You could watch from your window, yeah
You could watch from your window

Baby, be the class clown, I’ll be the beauty queen in tears
It’s a new art form showing people how little we care, yeah
We’re so happy even when we’re smiling out of fear
Let’s go down to the tennis court and talk it up like, yeah, yeah
And talk it up like, yeah, yeah
And talk it up like, yeah, yeah
Let’s go down to the tennis court and talk it up like, yeah
And talk it up like, yeah, yeah
And talk it up like, yeah, yeah
Let’s go down to the tennis court and talk it up like, yeah, yeah

  • General Comment:I think this song is basically criticizing modern individuals in their inability to live the truth (especially regarding emotions).
Boring how people talk– chit chat has no meaning
class clown vs. crying beauty queen– humor a way of denying emotions
smiling out of fear– putting on a false expression
you could watch from the window– detachment

My Interpretation:I think the tennis court aspect of this song is less literal in terms of those country clubs etc. Lorde is only 16 – I think it’s more likely she’s singing about being young and famous, and having all these pretty things and being surrounded by people all the time, yet with stardom comes a certain fear and the constant threat of ”falling apart”. so what people do is put on a brave face.

General Comment:It’s about putting on faces to act like they fit in with the lifestyle of people that go to country clubs and play tennis (typical WASPy rich people), but in actuality, they’re masking their emotions with joyful faces – “we’re so happy, even when we’re smiling out of fear” in order to promote the idea that their day-to-day is something to be admired and desired, i.e., pretending to be have direction and purpose in their ritzy lives, but in reality, they have no idea what the f&*% they’re doing.

“Woody Wednesday” A review of the movie “Whatever Works” by an Evangelical

A review of the movie “Whatever Works” by an Evangelical.

Woody Allen’s nihilist liberalism goes activist

Echoing a remark by Malcolm Muggeridge, Mark Richardson at Oz Conservative writes that liberalism is the last surviving extreme ideology, and he gives several example of what he means by this extremism.

I added to the thread my own example of the extremism of liberalism: a recent Woody Allen movie I’d just seen. Here is a modified version of the comment I posted:

Liberalism is an extreme ideology that intends the destruction of our entire cultural-social order. Even Woody Allen is on the liberal activist bandwagon now. His latest movie, Whatever Works, starring Larry David in the Woody Allen role, is the most political, “evangelical” movie he’s made—evangelical in the sense that it aggressively advances the liberal creed. The creed consists of the following assertions (which are not new ito Allen’s work but are presented with unprecedented aggressiveness in this movie): Christianity and traditional values are for repressed subnormals who must be continually mocked and despised; each person must throw off the shackles of Judeo-Christian morality and the Ten Commandments to discover his or her true life-style self (menage a trois, homosexuality etc.); life is completely meaningless because we’re all going to die and each of us spends his time caring about things that are totally absurd and idiotic, but at the same time each person by following his or her desires, or else as a result of pure chance, ends up with just the right mate (or mates) to give him or her complete happiness. In short, in Woody Allen’s world, there is no inherent truth or goodness, and everything that happens is due to chance; yet at the same time each person, once he or she breaks free of the false constraints of Christianity, enjoys a fulfilled relationship with just the right type of mate. But, if each person has a nature which is directed toward its true end, if there is a true fulfillment for each person, doesn’t that show that there is a good? Liberals, Darwinists and others want to enjoy the good, while denying the objective existence of the good and trashing the very idea of the good.

For example, the main character near the end of the movie suddenly takes a suicide leap through his loft window, but instead lands on top of a woman on the sidewalk who turns out to be the perfect woman for him and changes him from a fanatically misanthropic grouch into a happy guy. Yet even as he’s basking in his happiness in the last scene of the movie, he keeps insisting that everything is meaningless, It never occurs to him that such a remarkable event, a suicide jump turning into his meeting with his perfect mate, reveals the working not of chance but of a beneficent providence.

And that’s liberalism: you get to enjoy your own happiness, to boast of your own happiness, even while you keep telling others that there is no God, good, or meaning. You strip life of meaning, you poison the world for others, while you enjoy the good life for yourself.

* * *By the way, I’m not recommending the movie. It is stunningly bad, and I watched it not out of interest but in numbed fascination at how bad it was. But it was worth seeing for the last scene, when its evangelical-liberal purpose suddenly comes into view.

– end of initial entry -LA writes:

I found this very surprrising information about the Allen film at Wikipedia:

The film was shot in New York City, marking Allen’s return to his native city after a four-film sojourn in Europe.Woody Allen has revealed that the script itself was written in the early ’70s, with Zero Mostel in mind for Boris, but that the script was shelved after the actor’s death in 1977. Thirty years later, Allen revisited the script in an attempt to create a film before a potential threat of a Screen Actors Guild strike. According to Allen, the only significant changes to the script involved updating the outdated social and political references.

I find this hard to believe. The movie’s nihilistic philosophy, the protagonist’s hatred and contempt for normal Americans, his extreme misanthropy, are things that developed at a later period in Allen’s work. There was a comic sweetness and romanticism in his earlier work, which here is completely absent, and, of course, comedy. There is zero comedy in this movie, not a single funny line. Also, he showed a negative attitude toward hostility in his 1970s films, let alone such things as a menage a trois, which here he approves of.So it makes no sense to me that the script of “Whatever Works” was written in the early ’70s. Everything about it bespeaks a much later, much darker, much bitterer Allen—the Allen who began to embrace evil in “Crimes and Misdemeanors” in the late ’80s, and who raised a toast to the devil in “Deconstructing Harry” in the late ’90s.

Also, the notion that the Boris part was written for Zero Mostel is not believable, since Boris is your standard Woody Allen character in an especially obnoxious mode. In most of Allen’s movies, either he stars, or he has an actor who takes the Woody Allen part. Boris’s unhappiness with everything around him, as well as Larry David’s speech, mannerisms, facial expressions, are all typical of Allen’s screen persona. I am very doubtful that Allen wrote this script in the early ’70s and changed nothing but a few topical references when he made the movie in 2009. I think he made up that story for some reason..

Jeff W. writes:

What you are describing is an Eros cult. Its belief system seems to be that if you are not a subnormal, repressed Christian, the god Eros will lead you to the perfect mate and you will have really great sex. A related belief is that Christians never have really great sex because they are repressed.Historically it is worth noting that real, thoroughgoing atheists have never more than a small minority in any nation. When people don’t believe in God, they still have to deal with the uncomfortable facts of eternity and the size of the universe. Because people do not like to feel completely insignificant, they abandon atheism to engage in some kind of worship. It can be anything: it can be worship of the state, or some kind of tribal cult, or an Eros cult such as you have described.

A problem with this Eros cult comes when the love is gone. Then the cultist will likely wonder if his sins have led to the loss of love. “Maybe I wasn’t tolerant enough,” he might think. “Maybe I had secret racist thoughts.” When this happens, cultists split from their mates to give Eros another chance to get it right.

It’s not much of a religion, but it promises rewards, places few demands, and allows its adherents to feel superior to Christians. Millions of foolish, ignorant, and degraded people apparently prefer a religion of this kind.

Why Can’t Morals Be Grounded In Society?

Published on Aug 31, 2012

Dr William Lane Craig was invited by the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) Christian Union, London to give a lecture titled “Can we be good without God?” In this video Dr Craig answers a question about the objectivity of morality. Should we consider morals to be objective? If so, why can’t morals be “abiding” and objectively grounded in society?

The lecture formed part of the Reasonable Faith Tour in October 2011. The Tour was sponsored by Damaris Trust, UCCF and Premier Christian Radio.

The entire lecture “Can We Be Good Without God” can be viewed here: http://youtu.be/jzlEnrJfDBc

Dr. Francis schaeffer – The flow of Materialism

(Samuel Beckett example: Life is  meaningless, live in tension with reality)

(Modern man sees no hope for the future and has deluded himself by appealing to nonreason to stay sane. Look at the example of the lady tied to the railroad tracks in this above video as a example.)

Francis and Edith Schaeffer pictured below:

HOW SHOULD WE THEN LIVE? was both a book and a film series.

______________

_________________

Life without God in the picture is absurdity!!!. That was the view of King Solomon when he wrote the Book of Ecclesiastes 3000 years ago and it is the view of many of the modern philosophers today. Modern man has tried to come up with a lasting meaning for life without God in the picture (life under the sun), but it is not possible. Without the infinite-personal God of the Bible to reveal moral absolutes then man is left to embrace moral relativism. In a time plus chance universe man is reduced to a machine and can not find a place for values such as love. Both of Francis Schaeffer’s film series have tackled these subjects and he shows how this is reflected in the arts.

Here are some posts I have done on the series “HOW SHOULD WE THEN LIVE? : Francis Schaeffer’s “How should we then live?” Video and outline of episode 10 “Final Choices” , episode 9 “The Age of Personal Peace and Affluence”, episode 8 “The Age of Fragmentation”, episode 7 “The Age of Non-Reason” , episode 6 “The Scientific Age” ,  episode 5 “The Revolutionary Age” , episode 4 “The Reformation”,  episode 3 “The Renaissance”, episode 2 “The Middle Ages,”, and  episode 1 “The Roman Age,” .

I have discussed many subjects with my liberal friends over at the Ark Times Blog in the past and I have taken them on now on the subject of the absurdity of life without God in the picture. Most of my responses included quotes from William Lane Craig’s book THE ABSURDITY OF LIFE WITHOUT GOD.  Here is the result of one of those encounters from June of 2013:

I wrote:

Zatharus wrote, “Man cannot remake himself without suffering,
for he is both the marble and the sculptor.”
Alexis Carrel

Zatharus has it ever occurred to you that there is no such thing as evil without revealed truth. It is just your opinion versus mine. Hitler liked having a society with just his own race alive and who is to say that he was wrong?

You got to check out Woody Allen’s movie “Crimes and Misdeamors.”

The basic question Woody Allen is presenting to his own agnostic humanistic worldview is: If you really believe there is no God there to punish you in an afterlife, then why not murder if you can get away with it? The secular humanist worldview that modern man has adopted does not work in the real world that God has created. God “has planted eternity in the human heart…” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). This is a direct result of our God-given conscience. The apostle Paul said it best in Romans 1:19, “For that which is known about God is evident to them and made plain in their inner consciousness, because God has shown it to them” (Amplified Version).

It’s no wonder, then, that one of Allen’s fellow humanists would comment, “Certain moral truths — such as do not kill, do not steal, and do not lie — do have a special status of being not just ‘mere opinion’ but bulwarks of humanitarian action. I have no intention of saying, ‘I think Hitler was wrong.’ Hitler WAS wrong.” (Gloria Leitner, “A Perspective on Belief,” The Humanist, May/June 1997, pp.38-39). Here Leitner is reasoning from her God-givne conscience and not from humanist philosophy. It wasn’t long before she received criticism. Humanist Abigail Ann Martin responded, “Neither am I an advocate of Hitler; however, by whose criteria is he evil?” (The Humanist, September/October 1997, p. 2.). Humanists don’t really have an intellectual basis for saying that Hitler was wrong, but their God-given conscience tells them that they are wrong on this issue.

Open letter to President Obama (Part 420) Bailouts are legal corruption

(Emailed to White House on 1-14-13.)

President Obama c/o The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President,

I know that you receive 20,000 letters a day and that you actually read 10 of them every day. I really do respect you for trying to get a pulse on what is going on out here.

There is no free money out there. Somebody has to always pay.

Bailout Nation

January 13, 2013 by Dan Mitchell

I have a serious question for readers. What’s worse, bailouts for government or bailouts for the private sector?

Yes, both are bad, but is it worse to bail out a bankrupt entitlement program, such as Social Security, or it is worse to bail out an industry, such as the financial sector?

Bailout gravy train cartoonTo bail out the housing sector, or to bail out Medicare? Fannie and Freddie, or GM and Chrysler?

All these examples involve huge amounts of money, and both private-sector and public-sector bailouts have perverse long-run effects, but which is worse?

And don’t forget there are lots of other bailouts in our future, as discussed on this interview for Fox Business News.

The interview took place before Christmas, but the topic is even more relevant today since the budget season is about to begin.

Most of the discussion was about government agencies and programs that may get more handouts, though bailouts for the Federal Housing Administration and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation would be indirect bailouts for big business and housing.

So we’d get the worst of all worlds, more government spending and more cronyism.

Or, as they call it in Washington, a win-win situation.

But I call it legal corruption.
