We got to lower tax rates so we can grow our economy and if the tax rates are raised on the wealthy then we are punishing the job creators in our country and will hurt economic growth. We have to resist class warfare and lower taxes for everyone in order to grow our economy.
Every so often, I come across some statement by President Obama that is either jaw-droppingly misguided or unintentionally revealing, and I place it in my is-this-the-worst-thing-he-ever-said file.
His “spread the wealth” comment to Joe the Plumber is the most famous example, but that was before I started this blog. Previous entries on my list include.
In my video on class warfare, I noted that Obama said in 2008 that – for reasons of “fairness” – he wanted to raise the capital gains tax even if the government lost revenue.
A couple of years ago, he arrogantly remarked that “at some point you have made enough money.”
In 2010, while speaking in Latin America, she asserted that, “the wealthy across the Americas to pay their ‘fair share’ of taxes in order to eliminate poverty and promote economic opportunity for all.”
There are rich people everywhere, and yet they do not contribute to their growth of their own countries.
Wow, that’s remarkable. She’s actually claiming that rich people somehow get a lot of money without boosting growth, even though they obviously provided some value and benefit in order get people to voluntarily pay money for whatever it is that made the person wealthy.
But that’s not the most offensive part of her statement. What really stuns me is the assertion that growth will be enhanced if these successful people give a greater share of their money to a corrupt and venal political class.
Which leads me to ask a simple question: Can anybody show me a poor nation that became a rich nation while imposing high tax rates and having a bloated public sector?
P.S. Even though Mrs. Clinton wasn’t making any distinction, allow me to stipulate that there are some rich people who got money dishonestly. I addressed this issue in a post last year and I suspect that some politicians think rich people are sleazy crooks because the rich people they hang out with are sleazy crooks.

Newsmaker Interview with Surgeon General C. Everett Koop

The PBS NewsHour interviewed former Surgeon General, Dr. C. Everett Koop, on the anniversary of the first surgeon general’s report on smoking. Jim Lehrer interviewed Koop for a newsmaker conversation for the The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour from the surgeon general’s office in Washington on Jan. 11, 1989. Koop died Monday at the age of 96.
Dr. C. Everett Koop was appointed to the Reagan administration but was held up in the Senate in his confirmation hearings by Ted Kennedy because of his work in pro-life causes.
On 2-25-13 we lost a great man when we lost Dr. C. Everett Koop. I have written over and over the last few years quoting Dr. C. Everett Koop and his good friend Francis Schaeffer. They both came together for the first time in 1973 when Dr. Koop operated on Schaeffer’s daughter and as a result they became close friends. That led to their involvement together in the book and film series “WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE HUMAN RACE?” in 1979.
Amidst all of the (entirely proper) agitation about the unusual act of resignation by Pope Benedict XVI, we should not forget another most significant passage. Dr. C. Everett Koop, known affectionately as “Chick,” went to be with his Lord February 25, 2013, at the age of 96. Our hearts go out to his family. He is survived by his wife, Cora Hogue Koop, a friend of many of ours, (his first wife, Elizabeth, predeceased him by 13 years), and by his three children, Allen, Norman and Elizabeth (his son David died tragically in a mountain-climbing accident while still in college). He has eight grandchildren as well.
Dr. Koop was a distinguished pediatric surgeon in Philadelphia at Children’s Hospital, serving as surgeon-in-chief at “CHOP” from 1946 to 1981. He was then appointed Surgeon General under President Ronald Reagan. While his confirmation hearings were long and difficult, in the end he passed rather easily, mostly because of his palpable integrity. During his eight years of public service he became a household name. Hitherto the Surgeon General was not a high-profile position. All that changed under Everett Koop.
Koop was vehemently opposed to abortion on demand. Together with Francis Schaeffer, he produced a film and a book, Whatever Happened to the Human Race? The two warned against easy abortions, euthanasia and infanticide. Considered by many to be alarmist when published, time has proven them all too realistic. Of the practice of medicine, Koop once remarked: “Perhaps more than the law, I fear the attitude of our profession in sanctioning infanticide and in moving inexorably down the road from abortion to infanticide, to the destruction of a child who is socially embarrassing, to you-name-it.” At the same time, Koop refused to use his office as a bully pulpit for the abolition of abortion.
The two campaigns which gained him renown were his outspoken drives against smoking, and against the HIV-AIDS epidemic. Of tobacco’s harm, he famously described how smoking killed 100,000 Americans each year, and how smoking a pack a day will take six years off a person’s life. For this he was fiercely opposed by the tobacco lobby. However, he stood his ground, and the number of smokers in America went from one third down to one quarter of the population. On AIDS, he was nearly alone in urging government to take a stronger stand against its ravages. It eventually came to its senses, and began to act.
Dr. Koop became a believer in Jesus Christ through the ministry of Tenth Presbyterian Church, while he was in Philadelphia. He was an elder there and great supporter of the church. He remained a staunch, Reformed evangelical throughout his life. As one might expect of a leader who had strong convictions, not everyone could agree with him or remain supportive. Many evangelicals were quite taken aback when he came out against testing for AIDS, and in favor of the use of condoms, and of sex education for children. They often forgot to read the fine print. Testing could easily ruin careers. And Koop’s first remedy against AIDS was faithfulness or abstinence. Only when a problem still remained would it be appropriate to curtail further damage with the use of contraceptives. He also angered pro-life conservatives when he found out through a careful study that properly performed abortions did not necessarily lead to mental or physical health problems for the mother, as many had loved to argue. (Needless to say, his stands on various matters do not necessarily represent any official view from Westminster Seminary.)
As a friend of mine from Tenth Presbyterian Church pointed out, busy though he was, Dr. Koop always had time for people. He was never, seemingly, in a rush to move on, but spent generous time counseling and advising whoever might ask.
In a day when so often evangelicals have become all-too-predictable, it is refreshing to remember Dr. Koop’s refusal to be co-opted by any one faction. In a day when evangelicals have very little representation in public places, it is good to remember how one man changed much of American society through his insistent pleading about threats to life and health. In a day when many figures will use just about any argument to support their cause, it is good to remember the honesty of a man who tried to be entirely fair to the views he opposed. May we see the likes of him again!

First we are going to talk about the simple person. Two words describe the simple person and they are open and naive. All children are simple but also some teenagers are too. Here are some characteristics of the simple person.

A prudent person sees trouble coming and ducks; a simpleton walks in blindly and is clobbered.
The best thing for a young person is to see what the consequences of his actions are. It is good to take a child down to the courts to see punishments being given to those who were drunk driving. Also going down to the jails and seeing people who have broken the law being put behind bars, or going down to the hospital and seeing those who have overdosed on drugs could be helpful for the simpleton to see.
I have had several children who received speeding tickets before they turned 18. In the state of Arkansas they are required to attend a court date to watch drunk drivers receive their punishments. They also have to attend a class where a film showing the results of horrible wrecks is shown to them. Then maybe some simpletons in the crowd will learn from what they have viewed and not walk in blindly and are clobbered!!!

I have been emailing Senator Mark Pryor over and over again about places to cut spending out of our federal government and I will email him about this too.
Taxpayers all across America send lots of money to Washington, DC, in part because we’re supposed to believe that redistribution is a legitimate and desirable function of the federal government.
But this is a very perverse form of redistribution. All that money going to Washington helps subsidize a network of overpaid bureaucrats, fat-cat lobbyists, corrupt politicians, and well-heeled interest groups.
Indeed, as shown in this map, 10 of the 15 richest counties in the country are in the Washington metropolitan area.
One of those wealthy areas is Arlington County, VA, just across the river from Washington. Home to thousands of federal bureaucrats and other DC insiders, Arlington is similar to Washington in that there is a lot of wasteful spending. Sort of makes you wonder if local bureaucrats and federal bureaucrats ever meet at bars after work and brag about who wasted the most money that day?
A wall made of etched glass opens the rear vista to newly planted landscaping. Embedded in the floor are heating elements intended to ward off the cold weather and keep winter-weary feet cozy. …And the price tag: $1 million. “Is this made of gold?” asked commuter Yohannes Kaleab, examining the concrete-and-stainless-steel bench that is part of the new, seven-figure bus shelter. “What?” asked Robin Stewart as he learned of the cost of the structure while waiting for a bus there last week. “That’s ridiculous. From a citizen, from a voter, whoever put that budget through needs to get their butt canned. It’s an outrage.” The “super stop,” which opened March 11, is the first of 24 new bus stops that will also accommodate Arlington’s long-planned streetcars. …It will shelter 15 people at a time.
$1 million for this bit of glass, metal, and concrete?!?
That sounds kind of expensive, but we can be comforted by the fact that thoughtful public servants predict future savings.
“When you do a prototype, you end up heavily front-loading on the costs,” said Dennis Leach, Arlington’s transportation director.
So how much will taxpayers save on the remaining 23 stops? Well, the good news is that they won’t cost $1 million each. The bad news is that the government doesn’t exactly save a lot of money when doing bulk purchases.
“Our goal if at all possible is to do it for less,” Leach said. The county has budgeted $20.8 million for the remaining 23 stops, or about $904,000 for each one.
Gee, knock me over with a feather. The additional bus stops will “only” be $904,000!
Part of the answer, of course, is that politicians are inherently wasteful. But there’s another factor at play. Politicians are especially wasteful when they can spend money that isn’t collected from their own taxpayers.
And readers from other parts of America doubtlessly will be overjoyed to learn that their paying for a big chunk of this boondoggle.
Federal and state transportation money paid 80 percent of the costs.
With taxpayers outside of Arlington paying such a high share of the cost, we should think of ourselves as lucky that the bus stop didn’t cost $10 million!
But here’s the most amazing part of the story.
What’s the most important part of a bus stop? In theory, a bus stop can be nothing more than a sign indicating the spot where you should wait for a bus.
But if you’re going to build a structure, the most valuable feature – at least from the perspective of riders – is that you will be protected from the weather. So what sort of protection are riders getting as a result of this $1 million boondoggle? Meh, not so much.
…the bus shelter is “pretty, but I was struck by the fact that if it’s pouring rain, I’m going to get wet, and if it’s cold, the wind is going to be blowing on me. It doesn’t seem to be a shelter. It doesn’t really shelter you very much . . . you can get pretty soaked in two minutes.” Her opinion was shared by some on Columbia Pike trying it out.
Gee, isn’t this wonderful. Some contractors doubtlessly lined their pockets building this white elephant. Some consultants doubtlessly fattened their bank accounts with all the nonsense that is now part of the “planning” process.
But taxpayers, as usual, got the short end of the stick. They got taken for a ride, figuratively. And if they actually use the bus stop, they can get taken for a ride, literally, so long as they don’t mind getting wet.
P.S. And let’s not forget that Obama wants some more class-warfare tax hikes to finance more of this “investment.”

On 2-25-13 we lost a great man when we lost Dr. C. Everett Koop. I have written over and over the last few years quoting Dr. C. Everett Koop and his good friend Francis Schaeffer. They both came together for the first time in 1973 when Dr. Koop operated on Schaeffer’s daughter and as a result they became close friends. That led to their involvement together in the book and film series “WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE HUMAN RACE?” in 1979. This film has influenced a lot of people and that includes Ron Paul.
There was a link on Facebook to the following post on the RonPaul2012 website with the title “Reagan’s Surgeon General C. Everett Koop on Ron Paul’s Pro-Life Credentials.” It includes the following: “Paul’s first book written in 1983 was titled Abortion and Liberty. The foreword was written by C. Everett Koop, the pro-life Surgeon General appointed by Ronald Reagan.”
Using Dr. Koop’s 1983 endorsement is a reminder that when some conservatives get into office, they compromise. Dr. Koop had impeccable pro-life credentials before he became Ronald Reagan’s choice for Surgeon General. There was great pressure on Reagan from Evangelicals to nominate Dr. Koop because they had voted for the president in record numbers. Based on the following, Dr. Koop’s endorsement does not mean that much to me.
Dr. Koop was the co-author with Christian apologist and “guru of fundamentalism” (as Newsweek described him in 1982) Francis A. Schaeffer[1] of Whatever Happened to the Human Race? After a contentious confirmation hearing, Dr. Koop became Surgeon General under Ronald Reagan. Liberals attacked him because of his anti-abortion stance and his relationship with Schaeffer. “The nomination was held up for more than eight months. Only after Dr. Koop promised to abandon the antiabortion circuit and to refrain from using the Surgeon General’s office as a pulpit for his right-to-life beliefs did the Senate finally vote its approval.”[2]
Under questioning, Koop admitted that as Surgeon General, he would recommend abortion as one way of dealing with the unborn children of mothers with AIDS. By the spring of 1987, Koop was self-consciously in retreat from his earlier Christian position. With respect to abortion, he commented, “I’ve written all that I have to write on that issue. There are other, bigger things that I should turn my attention to as surgeon general: Where this country is and where it’s going in health care.”[3]
In 1986 and 1987, Koop officially called for sex education on AIDS in the public schools as early as kindergarten and for public school instruction on how to use condoms. Homosexuality had become a politically protected lifestyle. “I am the surgeon general of the heterosexuals and the homosexuals,” Koop argued, “of the young and the old, of the moral and the immoral, the married and the unmarried. I don’t have the luxury of deciding which side I want to be on.”[4] He had retreated to what Schaeffer called “the line of despair.”[5]
This so-called neutral moral position cost people their lives. Koop should have come out denouncing the behaviors that were causing AIDS. He did it with smoking. Why was “safe sodomy” an option but not safe smoking? Cigarette smoking kills, the government was telling everyone. Laws had been passed to make it increasingly more difficult for people to smoke in public buildings. Tobacco products are heavily taxed. Do we find the following on cigarette packs? “Caution: Cigarette smoking may be hazardous to your health. . . . So be sure to use a filter if you decide to smoke.” Koop was calling for condoms (filters) to help curtail the transmission of AIDS instead of denouncing the behavior that was spreading AIDS.
There is a related issue on Ron Paul changing his position on a federal prohibition of abortion. One of the reasons many Christians will not vote for Ron Paul is because he has taken a “states rights” position on abortion. While he calls for “preventing activist judges from interfering with state decisions on life by removing abortion from federal court jurisdiction through legislation modeled after his ‘We the People Act,’” he seems to have taken the position that states should be free either to outlaw or legalize abortion. They get it from a statement like this one:
Under the 9th and 10th amendments, all authority over matters not specifically addressed in the Constitution remains with state legislatures. Therefore the federal government has no authority whatsoever to involve itself in the abortion issue. So while Roe v. Wade is invalid, a federal law banning abortion across all 50 states would be equally invalid.
This is troubling for a lot of people. Would he say the same thing about slavery or involuntary euthanasia at the state level? Paul writes that there is a “God-given right to life — for those born and unborn.” Consider these words from Paul’s website:
After being forced to witness an abortion being performed during his time in medical school, he knew from that moment on that his practice would focus on protecting life. And during his years in medicine, never once did he find an abortion necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman.
Paul is correct that the Constitution does not deal with moral issues like rape, abortion, or even murder of adults. But if states started killing children or adults or permitted the rape of women for what were believed to be state-sanctioned reasons, would these be actions for a higher (federal) government to outlaw? I’d be interested in hearing what Dr. Paul’s answer since he argues that pre-born children are equal to born children.
What’s interesting is that Paul’s book Abortion and Liberty seems to advocate a federal solution. Here’s what he wrote on pages 34 and 35:
Senator Jesse Helms [1921-2008] has written and introduced a Human Life Amendment. He contends that: “A constitutional amendment must be worded, like the Constitution itself, in terms of general principles.”
Conforming to this, the amendment he wrote is brief and general in nature:
“The paramount right to life is vested in each human being from the moment of fertilization without regard to age, health, or condition of dependency.”
A Constitutional provision should never have been necessary, but now it is. Without this change in the Constitution, the division and dissension in the country over abortion will get worse. . . . We cannot deny constitutional protection to the unborn, but we should not be complacent and think that this in itself solves the problem. The problem is fundamentally moral, not legal. The Constitution by itself cannot establish the proper moral attitude of a nation. The real change will not be achieved by the politicians, but must come from our moral and religious philosophers.
Something has changed with Dr. Paul on the abortion issue since he wrote these words. If he returned to this very reasonable view, he would see his support rise among Evangelicals. He might even get the nomination.

I got to go hear the All-American Rejects in Little Rock on 12-13-12. Here are some of my reactions.
Tyson Ritter admitted that he lost his way after the 2008 cd came out and he spent a couple of years in LA searching for happiness through multiple relationships with women but that didn’t work out and he found no satisfaction. Let me suggest finding your satisfaction through Christ. Below are some very popular songs on this same subject.
Paul is reminding us that in every circumstance and in everything he has gone through that his satisfaction is found deeply in Christ. You think about this guy who is writing from prison. He is in this prison cell and it is a hardship in his life, but him of all people is saying that “I am writing to you but I am content and I am satisfied.” That is a statement you don’t hear from a lot of people these days… A lot of people are discontent and dissatisfied… Think about the poets from your generation or the generation before us. How about the deep theologians called “The Rolling Stones.” Remember them. They wrote this song “I can’t get no satisfaction.” And you what they say after that phrase? “And I try and I try and I try.” I am not sure how deep most of their lyrics are, but they voice the cry of many people. “I can’t get no satisfaction and I try and I am trying and I am trying.”
What about one of those other poets by the name of Bono who wrote a song called, “I still haven’t found what I am looking for.” It is interesting. “I still haven’t found what I am looking for.” It has a nice melody to it but there is probably a reason why it is so popular because there is a lot of people deep down in their soul feel like they haven’t found what they are looking for.
It is true. What is so funny to me is that what is so desired is so elusive. What is so longed for, people want to be content and satisfied, you want to be content with who you are and what you have and where you live but the reality of it is THAT IS NOT THE CASE IN YOUR LIFE. THAT IS NOT THE CASE FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE. A matter of fact in our notes I ask this question: WHY ARE MOST PEOPLE DISATISFIED AND DISCONTENT IN THIS LIFE? It is running rampant. People are longing for, desiring for and chasing after, they want so desperately to be content, to be satisfied with what they have, with who they are, with where they are. Yet the reality is for a lot of people who is not happening and it creates frustration in us and anger in us and sadness in us and loneliness in us.
Why? Some people say they are not compensated enough or not treated fairly enough, or not talented enough, or not attractive enough, or not rewarded enough, or not recognized enough. The list goes on and on and on.
The interesting thing is that even when you feel like you get some contentment in your life there is always a desire for more. It is never enough. Quite frankly some people achieve the american dream and they still want more!!!
TRUE CONTENTMENT FLOWS FROM CONFIDENCE IN GOD AND STAYS REGARDLESS OF CIRCUMSTANCES AND COMES FROM STRENGTH IN CHRIST AND BREEDS GENEROSITY.
Our deepest satisfaction is found in Christ.

Tyson Jay Ritter, born April 24, 1984 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, is co-founder of The All-American Rejects. Ritter splits his time between his homes in New York, California and Florida. While he considers Santa Rosa Beach, Florida to be his primary residence, business requires he spend the majority of his time at his LA-area home. Aside from his role in the band, Ritter has worked as a film and television actor. He performed as himself in the American television medical drama House M.D., appearing in the episode “Fetal Position” which aired April 3, 2007 on the Fox Network.[36] He also appeared with his other band members in television series Smallville season six episode 3, titled “Wither”, performing “It Ends Tonight“. He also appeared in his first film, The House Bunny, in 2008. In June 2010, Tyson Ritter sung a duet with R&B singer Timbaland with the song “I’m in Love With You”. The song features as a bonus track on Timbaland’s EP Shock Value II: The Singles.Tyson Ritter and Nick Wheeler also cowrote “Put Me Back Together” for Weezer’s 2010 “Raditude” Album. Tyson Ritter started his own charity called “Don’t Hate On Haiti” to raise money to get water to the people in Haiti, by designing a t-shirt. He is very passionate about Haiti, as he has stated in many interviews and on his personal Twitter account. At Warped Tour 2010, he “sold his body” to raise money, by taking pictures, giving autographs, sidestage passes and even kisses for donating money. In June 2011 he began a campaign for Haiti that entails him keeping silent for 30 days. Many people have began to sponsor his silence by giving money for every day he keeps quiet.[37] “In the end, we’re just a band, close friends, who care deeply about what we do,” says Tyson.
Nickolas (Don) Von Wheeler was born on March 20, 1982 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and lived there until moving to his current residence in Destin, Florida. He is a co-founder of The All-American Rejects and is the lead guitarist and backing vocals for the band.
Mike Kennerty – rhythm guitar, backing vocals (2002–present)
Michael Brian Kennerty, born on July 20, 1980, in Houston, Texas, grew up and lives in Edmond, Oklahoma. He joined the All-American Rejects in 2002 after The All-American Rejects had been completed. Kennerty is a founding member and guitarist of the punk band “These Enzymes”, along with bandmate and drummer, Chris Gaylor. The side project was started after a 2003 tour in England, and includes other members Neil Rubenstein and Andrew Palmer.[38] He produced and played guitar on Ben Weasel‘s album These Ones Are Bitter. He is also the owner of Edmond Records, which specializes in colored vinyl pressings, including Ben Weasel’s latest album.
Christopher James Gaylor, born April 11, 1979, lives in Edmond, Oklahoma. After joining the band in 2002, Gaylor has added a muscular edge to the band’s drums. Gaylor is a co-founding member and drummer of “These Enzymes”, and played drums on the Ben Weasel album These Ones Are Bitter.
Using mainly Fender and Gibson guitars, The All-American Rejects use numerous models. The band uses Sennheiser microphones, Ernie Ball guitar strings, and Dunlop Picks.
Lead singer and bassist Tyson Ritter uses two models of Fender; one is a Black P-Bass, and the other model is the recently discontinued Jaguar Bass. Ritter also uses Gibson models, including the Gibson Thunderbird and the EpiphoneFlying V.[39]
The lead guitarist of The All-American Rejects, Nick Wheeler, primarily uses Gibson guitars. Wheeler’s main guitar is the Gibson Firebird. He primarily uses a Vintage Sunburst Firebird V. Wheeler owns a rare cherry Firebird VII, which he no longer uses for live shows, as well as a custom Firebird, which is painted in blue glitter. He owns eight Firebirds overall. He also uses a Classic Gibson Firebird. Wheeler frequently uses a Gibson ES-335. This guitar is notably used live for the intro of “Top of the World”, taking the place of the classical guitar originally used in the “Top of the World” recording. It is also commonly used in the songs “It Ends Tonight”, “Real World”, “Stab My Back”, “My Paper Heart”, “Gives You Hell” and “Dance Inside”. Another guitar that Wheeler favors is the Gibson EDS-1275doubleneck guitar, which he uses live on “The Wind Blows”. He has also been known to occasionally use the Gibson Flying V, namely for the performing “The Last Song” live.[40][41]
Rhythm guitarist Mike Kennerty has used the Gibson SG since joining the band, and also uses Washburn Guitars. Another guitar that Kennerty favors is the PRS Guitars Mira X which came out in early 2009.[42][43]
Chris Gaylor, drummer for the band, uses Remo heads for his drums. Gaylor used to endorse Tama drums, but now he endorses C&C drums. He has a set with a Rootbeer Sparkle wood finish, as well as an acrylic kit. Gaylor’s most-current set-up contains seven drums. He uses a 12×7 rack tom, 14×10, 16×12, and 18×14 floor toms, a 14×6.5 Nickel-Over-Brass snare, a 12×7 effects snare, and a 24×16 bass drum. Gaylor uses Tama hardware.

Setting the record straight on the first presidential debate is very easy if you are a reader of the Heritage Foundation website!!! Here are some examples below taken from Romina Boccia‘s excellent article from October 4, 2012:
During last night’s presidential debate, claims were flying fast and furious. Some of these claims were true, others false. Here are the top 10—see which ones you can guess as either true or false.
7. Natural gas production is up in spite of Obama’s policies, not because of them.
Romney: “[T]he President pointed out correctly that production of oil and gas in the U.S. is up. But not due to his policies. In spite of his policies. Mr. President, all of the increase in natural gas and oil has happened on private land, not on government land.”
True.Much of the increased oil and gas production is on private lands, over which the Administration has no control. According to a recent report from the Energy Information Administration, energy production decreased 13 percent on federal lands in fiscal year (FY) 2011 compared to FY 2010.
8. Businesses can take a deduction for moving jobs overseas.
Obama: “I also want to close those loopholes that are giving incentives for companies that are shipping jobs overseas.”
False.President Obama falsely claimed businesses can take a deduction for moving jobs overseas. No such deduction exists. Moreover, President Obama demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of how the global economy works by suggesting that companies investing overseas destroy jobs at home. A U.S. business investing abroad is good for the U.S. economy because it makes the company more competitive at home and abroad in selling products into global markets, which often creates more jobs for Americans.
9. America’s corporate tax rate is uncompetitive.
Obama: “When it comes to our tax code, Governor Romney and I both agree that our corporate tax rate is too high, so I want to lower it, particularly for manufacturing, taking it down to 25 percent.”
True. At over 39 percent, the U.S. has the highest corporate tax rate among industrialized nations. The average of all industrialized countries in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), including the U.S. rate, is about 25 percent. To regain standing compared to competing nations, Congress should lower the rate so it is on par with the current OECD average. Despite this, President Obama has proposed to raise taxes on those firms with multinational operations. This would not insource jobs, but outsource ownership of U.S. firms.
10. Social Security is structurally sound.
Obama: “Social Security is structurally sound. It’s going to have to be tweaked, [but] the basic structure is sound.”
False. Social Security is running permanent and growing deficits, threatening a 25 percent cut in Social Security benefits in 21 years. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) recently confirmed that Social Security has been running deficits of about 4 percent for two years in a row and that these will only get worse over time. CBO projects that Social Security’s deficits will average 10 percent over the next decade and then exceed 20 percent by 2030 as more baby boomers retire.

FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE – Barack Obama VS Mitt Romney (Part 7)
I agree that Obama inherited a crappy economy, and I think it is silly to assert that he bears any responsibility for the severity of the 2007-2009 recession.
And I think it is fair to blame Obama for the economy’s anemic performance during that time, largely because his agenda of faux stimulus and Obamacare exacerbated the statist policies of Bush. In other words, he promised “hope” and “change,” but delivered more of the same.
Well, now that the election is over, even the Washington Post is willing to admit that Obama’s economic performance is dismal. Here’s a remarkable chart showing that growth is far below the average.
There are actually two very important conclusions to draw from this chart.
“Barack, I read this great book that says ‘from each according to his ability…’”
