Evangelicals Worship (Part 10, Immanuel Baptist Church, Highland, CA)

This below from the pastor blog (Rob Zinn):

03-12-12
A Right View of Repentance
“And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things. 3 But do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who will render to each person according to his deeds.” Romans 2:2-6Not only does repentance include physically turning away from sin; it also includes a mental or intellectual change in the way we view sin. When we repent of a certain sin, we agree with God that what we did was wrong. Therefore, we willfully choose to step away from sin.

Repentance is not an emotional act. However, it does involve our emotional well-being. True repentance surfaces feelings of both remorse and regret over the obvious breach we have allowed to invade our lives. Sin separates us from fellowship with God, while repentance restores our intimacy with Him.

Forgiveness for sin was provided once and for all by Jesus Christ at Calvary. When God views us, He acknowledges the atoning death of His Son as payment for our sins. Our acknowledgment of those same sins allows us to personally receive and enjoy His complete forgiveness.

Some Christians think they can enjoy the security of being saved by God’s grace while living life with a sinful vengeance. But true salvation denotes a humble spirit and a repentant heart. There is no way to live a victorious Christian life while coveting sin. Ask God to help you come to grips with any sin in your life. His restoration is always available through repentance.

“He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.” Acts 5:31

Evangelicals worship (Part 9, Clovis Hills Community Church, Clovis, CA)

Pastor Steve will begin digging under the surface in our new series Stop Acting Like a Christian.

What We Believe

Clovis Hills Statement of Faith

The following is a simplified statement of the beliefs of Clovis Hills Community Church.

1. About God

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe.  He has eternally existed in three persons, who are co-equal; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Genesis1:1,26, 27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2Corinthians 13:14

2. About Man

Man has been created in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character.  He is the supreme object of God’s creation.  Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”.  This attitude separates man from God.

Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2

3. About Eternity

Man was created to exist forever.  He can live this existence separated from God through disobedience or in union with God through faith and salvation.  Heaven and Hell are the future places of existence destined for those who live in union with God (Heaven) and those who choose to remain separated from God (Hell).

John 3:16; 2:25; 1John 5:11-13; Romans 6:23; Revelations 20:15; Matthew 18:8; 25:22-46

4. About Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father.  Jesus lived a life free of sin and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His victory over sin and death.  He ascended into the glory of Heaven and is there now where He rules as the head of His church. He will return to earth again to reign forever as the King of all kings and Lord of all lords.

Matthew 1:22; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:20; Romans 1:3-4; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1Corinthians 15:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1Timothy6:14-15

5. About Personal Salvation

Salvation is a gift given to man by God.  Man can never make-up for his sin by self-improvement of good deeds.  Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin’s penalty.  Eternal life begins the moment we receive Jesus Christ by faith.

Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1

6. About Eternal Security

Because eternal life is based on the gift of God to sinful persons through grace, the believer in Christ is secure in that salvation for all eternity.  His salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian.  The Christian’s life of righteousness is motivated by God’s grace, not by fear of losing salvation.  John 10:28-29; 2 Timothy 1:2; Hebrews 7:25; 10:10, 14; 1 Peter 1:3-5

Here’s a recap of all that went into the Good Friday service and three Easter services at Clovis Hills Community Church.

___________

7. About The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He is also referred to in scripture as the Spirit of Jesus.

He is co-equal with the Father and the Son.  He works to make persons aware of their need for Jesus Christ.  He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation.  He provides Christians with power for daily living, understanding of spiritual truth, and power for effective witnessing to others.  The Christian is commanded to live under the Spirit’s control every day.

2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13; 14:16-17; Acts 1:8;  Ephesians 1:13; 5:18; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16;  Galatians 5:25

 8. About The Bible

The Bible is the written record of God’s revelation of Himself to man, coming to fulfillment in the person of Jesus Christ.  The Bible was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.  It is the perfect source of instruction for knowing God and living the Christian life.

2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119: 105, 160; 12: 6;    Proverbs 30:5

2 cartoons illustrate the fate of socialism from the Cato Institute

Cato Institute scholar Dan Mitchell is right about Greece and the fate of socialism:

In my speeches, especially when talking about the fiscal crisis in Europe (or the future fiscal crisis in America), I often warn that the welfare state reaches a point-of-no-return when the number of people riding in the wagon begins to outnumber the number of people pulling the wagon.

To be more specific, if more than 50 percent of the population is dependent on government (employed in the bureaucracy, living off welfare, receiving pensions, etc), it becomes rather difficult to form a coalition to fix the mess. This may explain why Greek politicians have resisted significant reforms, even though the nation faces a fiscal death spiral.

But you don’t need me to explain this relationship. One of our Cato interns, Silvia Morandotti, used her artistic skills to create two images (click pictures for better resolution) that show what a welfare state looks like when it first begins and what it eventually becomes.

These images are remarkably accurate. The welfare state starts with small programs targeted at a handful of genuinely needy people. But as  politicians figure out the electoral benefits of expanding programs and people figure out the that they can let others work on their behalf, the ratio of producers to consumers begins to worsen.

Eventually, even though the moochers and looters should realize that it is not in their interest to over-burden the people pulling the wagon, the entire system breaks down.

Then things get really interesting. Small nations such as Greece can rely on permanent bailouts from bigger countries and the IMF, but sooner or later, as larger nations begin to go bankrupt, that approach won’t be feasible.

I often conclude my speeches by joking with the audience that it’s time to stock up on canned goods, bottled water, and ammo. Many people, I’m finding, don’t think that line very funny.

The Department of Health and Human Services administers the huge and fast-growing Medicare and Medicaid programs. These programs fuel rising health costs, distort health markets, and are plagued by waste and fraud. The department also runs an array of other expensive subsidy programs, including Head Start, TANF, and LIHEAP. Growth in HHS spending is creating a federal financial crisis, and the 2010 health care law sadly makes the situation worse.

The department will spend $910 billion in 2011, or $7,710 for every U.S. household. It employs 68,000 workers and runs more than 420 subsidy programs.

Spending Cuts Summary

  • Here are proposed reforms to save $81 billion annually in the short-run and prevent federal health costs from consuming a growing share of the economy in the long-run.

Downsize This!

  • Medicare Reforms. Medicare should be transformed into a system based on vouchers, individual savings, and competitive insurance markets.
  • Medicaid Reforms. Federal spending on low-income health care should be converted to block grants for the states.
  • TANF and Welfare Spending. Welfare reforms in 1996 created Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, but this sort of aid should be provided by private charities.
  • Head Start and Other Subsidies. HHS funds a vast array of other subsidy programs, many of which are wasteful and ineffective.
  • 2010 Health Care Legislation. The law expanded Medicaid, added new taxes and subsidies, created new bureaucracies, and did little to reduce cost growth in health care.

The government of the United States is a definite government, confined to specified objects. It is not like the state governments, whose powers are more general. Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government.

More info from church website:

Knowing Jesus

Do you know for certain that you have Eternal Life and that you will go to heaven when you die? God wants you to be sure:

The Bible says, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
(1 John 5:13)

Another question to consider is:

Suppose you were standing before God right now and He asked you, “Why should I let you into my heaven?” What do you think you would say?

You may not know what you should say, but you can know, because God loves you and has a purpose for your life.

The Bible states it this way, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
(John 3:16)

God’s Purpose is that We Have Eternal Life
  • We receive eternal life as a free gift.

“The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

  • We can live a full and meaningful life right now.

“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more
     abundantly.”
  (John 10:10)

  • We will spend eternity with Jesus in heaven.

“If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be
with me that you also may be where I am.”
  (John 14:3)

Eternal life gives meaning to life. Yet, our sinful nature keeps us from fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives.

Our Need is to Understand Our Problem

  •  We are all sinners by nature and by choice.
“All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
  • We cannot save ourselves.
“Not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:9)
  • We deserve death and hell.
“The wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23)
It is true that:
God is holy and just and must punish sin, yet He loves us and has provided forgiveness for our sin. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no one comes to the Father, except through me.”  (John 14:6)
The good news is that God has provided for the forgiveness of our sins!

God’s Provision
is Jesus Christ

  • Jesus is God and became man.
“In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God… And
the Word was made flesh, and
    dwelt among us.”
(John 1:1,14)
  • Jesus died for us on the cross.
“Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust that he might
                bring us to God.”
(1 Peter 3:18)
  • Jesus was resurrected from the dead.
“(Jesus) was delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our
                justification.”
(Romans 4:25)
That is good news, but the only way Jesus can affect our lives is for us to receive Him. The Bible says, “As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” (John 1:12)
The choice is ours.

Our Response is to Receive Jesus

  •  We must repent of our sin.
“Repent , then and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out.” (Acts 3:19)
Repentance is not just feeling sorry for our sin.
“Repent and turn to God, and prove
        their repentance by their deeds.”

        (Acts 26:20)
Repentance is turning to God through Jesus and away from our sin. It’s like making a U-Turn. As we turn…
  • We must place our faith in Jesus.

“By grace you have been saved,
through faith; and this not from
yourselves: it is the gift of God.”
            (Ephesians 2:8).

Faith is not just believing facts about Jesus. ” You believe that there is one God.  Good!  Even the demons believe that – and shudder.” (James 2:19).

Faith is trusting in Jesus.  It’s like taking a trip on an airplane. You will never make the trip until you trust the plane enough to board it.  To trust in Jesus means…

  • We must trust Jesus as Lord.

“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you beleive and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” (Romans 10:9-10)

Surrendering to Jesus as Lord is not just saying we give our lives to Jesus. ” Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven; but only he who does the will of my Father, who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21).

Surrendering to Jesus as Lord means giving Jesus control of our lives. That is, we must give all we know of ourselves to all we know of God.

To give Jesus control of our lives is like driving down the highway with another person. As long as you are driving, you are in control. If you realize you don’t know the way, but the other person does, you might say, “You take the wheel and drive.” Then the other person is in control and the two of you take the route he or she chooses.

As evidence of giving Jesus control, you will want to identify with Him. The New Testament way of identification is to confess Jesus publicly (Matthew 10:32-33) and to follow Him in baptism and church membership (Acts 2:41).

Three Important Questions

  1. Does what you have been reading make sense to you?
  2. Is there any reason you would not be willing to receive God’s gift of eternal life?
  3. Are you willing to turn from your sin and place your faith in Jesus right now?
The Bible says, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13)
You need to ask the Lord Jesus to save you.
Read this prayer and see if it says what you want to say to God.

Dear God, I know that Jesus is Your Son, and that He died on the cross and was raised from the dead. I know I have sinned and need forgiveness. I am willing to turn from my sins and receive Jesus as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

If you have just prayed this prayer, we would be excited to hear about your decision. Click here so that we may be able to pray with you about this decision and get in contact with you.
Call on the Lord in repentance, faith, and surrender, using these or similar words of your own; and Jesus will become your Savior and Lord.
Welcome to the family of God! If you sincerely prayed this prayer, you have just made the most important decision of your life. You can be sure you are saved and have eternal life.

Your Assurance

You know you have eternal life because:
  • God keeps His promises
            You repented of your sin.
            (Acts 3:19)
You placed your faith in Jesus.
            (Ephesians 2:8-9)
You surrendered to Jesus as Lord.
            (Romans 10:9-10)
  • God heard your prayer
“Everyone who calls on the name of the
             Lord will be saved.”
  (Romans 10:13)
  • God recorded your commitment.
            “Rejoice, because your names are
            written in heaven.”
(Luke 10:20)

You Need to Grow as a Christian

The Bible calls new Christians “babes in Christ.” (1 Corinthians 3:1)  Without certain essentials, babies will not develop normally.
The church is to a new Christian what the home and family are to a baby.

You identify with your new family by confessing Jesus publicly and by experiencing believer’s baptism.

“Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were
         added about three thousand souls.”
(Acts 2:41)

Attend church Sunday and share with the pastor that you want to be baptized and become a member of the church.
Praying is to spiritual life what breathing is to physical life. Breathing must be regular and continuous. The Bible says, “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Learn to be specific in your praying. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
God’s Word is to a new Christian what good food is to a baby. Good food is a daily requirement for proper growth. “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow.” (1 Peter 2:2)
Learning to witness is to a new Christian what learning to talk is to a baby. Christ commands us to share the good news with others. “You shall be witnesses.” (Acts 1:8)

Pastor Bill Purvis Testimony – Part 1

Uploaded by on Mar 7, 2010

Bill Purvis’ personal testimony of how his life was dramatically changed after he was brutally attacked and nearly killed in 1974.

_____________

Here is some info from the church website:

Our Pastor

Bill Purvis was born on May 16, 1956 in Okinawa, Japan and grew up in Eufaula, Alabama. Two weeks prior to his spiritual conversion, a young witness for Christ would tell Bill, “Everything you are looking for can be found in Jesus”. On April 28, 1974, Bill would be stabbed 3 times with a butcher knife and left for dead. It was in his dying state that he repented of his sins and cried out to God, receiving Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. That became the turning point of his life. His transformation resulted in an undeniable love for God and an urgency to tell others of Jesus. While a Business Administration student at Opelika State College, (now Southern Union College) he sensed a definite call to ministry one year after his conversion.

He went on to earn the following degrees from Luther Rice Seminary:

  • Master of Arts, (M.A.)
  • Master of Divinity, (M.Div.) Magna Cum Laude
  • Doctor of Ministry, (D.Min.) Magna Cum Laude

He also holds an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from The Southern California Theological Seminary.

____________

Pastor Bill Purvis Testimony – Part 2

He served almost 7 years successfully as a youth pastor in three churches where each youth ministry experienced growth and favor from God.

These three churches were:

  • Unity Baptist Church, 1976-78, where he served under Rev. Daniel Jones. He was ordained to ministry on October 11, 1977. It was under this pastor that he developed a passion for evangelism.
  • Cascade Hills, 1978-80, where he served under Dr. Jim Lee. It was under this pastor that he grew in his understanding of Bible doctrines. He also married Deborah Michelle Raybon, of Pinellas Park, Florida on July 1, 1980.
  • Pinehurst Baptist Church, 1980-83, where he served under Dr. Tony R. Dickerson. It was under this pastor that he learned skills of administration, exegetical preaching, and of working on a large staff team.

Looking back today, Bill clearly sees the guiding hand of God in his life through these experiences and holds each of these pastors in high regard.

On Easter Sunday morning of April, 1983, with only 32 people present, Bill and Debbie were called to the Cascade Hills Church of Columbus, Georgia as Senior Pastor. The membership has grown today to exceed 8,000. His ministry at Cascade Hills has been blessed with uncommon anointing.

________

Pastor Bill Purvis Testimony – Part 3

If asked to this day about his life or ministry, his response is; “God has been very good to me in more ways than I ever deserved or could imagine. I’m humbled by his undeniable love for me and grateful for His grace that I always find near”.

I grew up at Bellevue Baptist in Memphis where Adrian Rogers was the pastor and he used to have Jack Taylor the pastor of Castle Hills First Baptist Church in to speak and the message was always very practical and helpful. Also our youth director, Dan Carter, came from Castle Hills First Baptist Church and he served at Bellevue from 1976 to 1981. He had a major impact on me.

CONNECTING TO GOD

Our desire is for every person to connect to the living and loving God.

  • The Good News is that God Loves you and wants to be with you now
    and forever.
  • The bad news is that you and I have both failed God at some point in
    our lives…we are sinners.
  • The central message of the whole Bible is that Jesus died to forgive my sin so I would not be cut off from God.
  • The fourth truth is: God wants to have a relationship of trust with you.
  • It only takes a little step of faith and God will do the rest.

Evangelicals worship (Part 5, NorthPointe Community Church, Fresno, CA)

Great pro-life message on the healing after an abortion that Christ offers:

Here is some info from the church’s website:

We are all on a spiritual journey. And on this journey, if we look into the Bible we can learn about what God has to say about what it means to have an ongoing relationship with Him. History and the Bible teaches that Jesus Christ lived on this earth and died on a cross. But it doesn’t end there. The Bible teaches us that Jesus was physically raised from the dead, thus proving the claims of who He said He was. Because of Jesus’ resurrection, His followers do not honor a dead founder. We can have a vital, personal relationship with Him. Jesus Christ lives today and faithfully enriches the lives of all those who trust and obey Him. Throughout the centuries, multitudes have acknowledged the worthiness of Jesus Christ, including many who have greatly influenced the world. French physicist and philosopher Blaise Pascal spoke of people’s need for Jesus when he said, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every man, which only God can fill through his Son Jesus Christ.”

Can we personally know Jesus today?

Yes, we can! Because of God’s deep love for you, He has already made all the necessary arrangements. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, you can enjoy a personal relationship. Jesus made it possible to bridge the chasm which separates us from God. The following four principles will help you discover how to know Jesus personally and experience the abundant life He promised.

Principle 1 – God LOVES you and created you to know Him personally.

  • John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
  • John 17:3 “Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.”

What prevents us from knowing God personally?

Principle 2 – Man is SINFUL and SEPARATED from God, so we cannot know Him personally or experience His love.

  • Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
  • Romans 6:23 “The wages of sin is death (spiritual separation from God).”
  • Romans 8:6-8 “The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.”

A great gulf separates man from God. Man is continually trying to reach God and establish a personal relationship with Him through human efforts, such as living a good life, philosophy, attending church or religion. But he inevitably fails.

The third principle explains the only way to bridge this gulf…

Principle 3 – Jesus Christ is God’s ONLY provision for man’s sin. Through Him alone we can know God personally and experience God’s love

  • Romans 5:8 “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
  • 1 Corinthians 15:3-6 “Christ died for our sins… He was buried… He was raised on the third day according to the scriptures… He appeared to Peter, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred…”
  • John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

God has bridged the gulf that separates us from Him by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross in our place to pay the penalty for our sins.

But it is not enough just to know these truths…

Principle 4 – We must individually RECEIVE Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior; then we can know God personally and experience His love

  • John 1:12 “As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.”
  • Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith. This does not depend on anything you have achieved, it is the free gift of God; and because it is not earned no one can boast about it.”

Receiving Christ involves turning to God from self (a spirit of repentance) and trusting Christ to come into our lives to forgive us of our sins and make us what He wants us to be. Just to agree intellectually that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for our sins is not enough. Nor is it enough to have an emotional experience.

We receive Jesus Christ by faith, as an act of our will.

Jesus Christ is waiting for an invitation to come in to your life. In fact, he says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in” (Revelation 3:20).

Perhaps you can sense Christ knocking at the door of your heart. You can invite Him in by faith right now. God knows your heart so it doesn’t matter exactly what words you use. Here’s a suggested prayer:

Lord Jesus, I want to know You personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life to You and ask you to come in as my Savior and Lord. Take control of my life. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.

If this prayer expresses the desire of your heart, pray it right now and Jesus Christ will come into your life just as he has promised. Once you invite Christ into your life, he promises to never leave you.

  • Hebrews 13:5 “God has said, Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

To know God personally is the greatest decision you will ever make. If you are local to Fresno, California – please visit with us and we will be more than happy to assist you in your spiritual journey. If you are from a different area, please find a local Bible teaching church which can then assist you in the next steps to take.

Pastor Steve

Evangelicals worship (Part 4, Valley Baptist Church of Bakersfield, California)

Uploaded by on Jan 29, 2011

The Miracle of Life by Valley Baptist Church of Bakersfield, California

_______

Here is some info from their website:

What We Believe

Valley Baptist Church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.  Valley Baptist, as a church, remains autonomous from the convention.  Each church directs its own affairs apart from outside intervention, deciding for itself how to deal with all matters.  The Convention recognizes that in the New Testament there was no centralized ecclesiastical authority over the churches that forced the churches into any form of compliance. There was encouragement, exhortation, and admonition, but there was never enforcement.

Membership at Valley Baptist Church is a matter of receiving Jesus as your Savior and Lord and experiencing believer’s baptism by immersion. You become a Southern Baptist by uniting with a Southern Baptist church, one in friendly cooperation with the general Southern Baptist enterprise of reaching the world for Christ.

Southern Baptists have prepared a statement of generally held convictions called The Baptist Faith and Message. It serves as a guide to understanding who we are. Copies are available at Valley Baptist Church. The topics here provide only a brief, partial summary. The full text on the issue discussed is also available on this website.

The Scriptures
The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.

God
There is one and only one living and true God. …The eternal triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.

God the Father
God as Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purposes of His grace. …God is Father in truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

God the Son
Christ is the eternal Son of God. In His incarnation as Jesus Christ, He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. …He honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and in His substitutionary death on the cross, He made provision for the redemption of men from sin.

God the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine. …He exalts Christ. He convicts men of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. …He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, and service.

Man
Man is the special creation of God, in His own image. He created them male and female as the crowning work of His creation. …By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. … The sacredness of human personality is evident in that God created man in His own image, and in that Christ died for man; therefore every person of every race possesses dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.

Salvation
Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. In its broadest sense salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification.

God’s Purpose of Grace
Election is the gracious purpose of God, according to which He regenerates, justifies, sanctifies, and glorifies sinners. …All true believers endure to the end. Those whom God has accepted in Christ, and sanctified by His Spirit will never fall away from the state of grace, but shall persevere to the end.

The Church
A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel, observing the two ordinances of Christ, governed by His laws, exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word, and seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth. Each congregation operates under the Lordship of Christ through democratic processes. In such a congregation each member is responsible and accountable to Christ as Lord. Its scriptural officers are pastors and deacons. While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.

Baptism & the Lord’s Supper
Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water. …It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Saviour, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus.

The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members … memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.

Evangelism & Missions
It is the duty and privelege of every follower of Christ and every church of the Lord Jesus Christ to endeavor to make disciples of all nations… to seek constantly to win the lost to Christ by verbal witness undergirded by a Christian lifestyle, and by other methods in harmony with the gospel of Christ.

The Lord’s Day
The first day of the week is the Lord’s Day. …It commemorates the resurrection of Christ from the dead and should be employed in exercises of worship and spiritual devotion.

Last Things
God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. …Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly…the dead will be raised; and Christ will judge all men in righteousness. The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell. …The righteous… will receive their reward and will dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord.

Education
The cause of education in the Kingdom of Christ is co-ordinate with the causes of missions and general benevolence … there should be a proper balance between academic freedom and academic responsibility. …The freedom of a teacher in a Christian school, college, or seminary is limited by the pre-eminence of Jesus Christ, by the authoritative nature of the Scriptures, and by the distinct purpose for which the school exists.

Stewardship
God is the source of all blessings, temporal and spiritual; all that we have and are we owe to Him. Christians have a spiritual debtorship to the whole world, a holy trusteeship in the gospel, and a binding stewardship in their possessions. They are therefore under obligation to serve Him with their time, talents, and material possessions.

Cooperation
Christ’s people should … organize such associations and conventions as may best secure cooperation for the great objects of the Kingdom of God. Such organizations have no authority over one another or over the churches. …Cooperation is desirable between the various Christian denominations.

The Christian & the Social Order
All Christians are under obligation to seek to make the will of Christ supreme in our own lives and in human society… in the spirit of Christ, Christians should oppose racism, every form of greed, selfishness, and vice, and all forms of sexual immorality, including adultery, homosexuality, and pornography. We should work to provide for the orphaned, the needy, the abused, the aged, the helpless, and the sick. We should speak on behalf of the unborn and contend for the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death…

Religious Liberty
Church and state should be separate. The state owes to every church protection and full freedom in the pursuit of its spiritual ends. …A free church in a free state is the Christian ideal.

Family
God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. It is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood or adoption.

Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. … The husband and wife are of equal worth before God, since both are created in God’s image. A husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church. He has the God-given responsibility to provide for, to protect, and to lead his family. A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ. She, being in the image of God as is her husband and thus equal to him, has the God-given responsibility to respect her husband and to serve as his helper in managing the household and nurturing the next generation… Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord. Parents are to demonstrate to their children God’s pattern for marriage.

Our entire church welcomes you to our Website.

Evangelicals worship (Part 3,Lakepointe Church, Texas)

Great church in Texas and here is some info from their website:

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the central figure of Christianity. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.” Salvation for any person is found through Jesus and Jesus, alone.

Jesus is also the second person in the Trinity. John 1:1-2 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God…” He is both human and divine…God and man at the same time.

Jesus is the perfect Savior. He never made a mistake and performed many miracles throughout His life including healing, casting out demons, walking on water, calming a storm, raising people from the dead and rising from the dead, Himself.

For more information on Who Jesus is, read the following article by Matt Slick HERE.

by Matt Slick

Jesus is the central figure of Christianity.  He said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me,” (John 14:6).  Also, Jesus claimed to be God in flesh.  If you compare what God said to Moses in Exodus 3:14 (“And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”) with what Jesus said in John 8:58 (Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am,”), then you quickly see that Jesus was claiming to be God.  In fact, others testified that He was divine as well:

  • John 20:28, “Thomas answered and said to Him, ‘My Lord and my God!'”
  • Col. 2:9, “For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form.”
  • Heb. 1:8, “But of the Son He says, “Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever…”

Jesus is the second person of the Trinity.  He is the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us.  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  2 He was in the beginning with God…  And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth,” (John 1:1-2,14).  Because the word was with God and was God and became flesh, we then state that Jesus has two natures: divine and human.  Therefore, Christianity teaches that Jesus is both God and man at the same time.  The reason that he is God in flesh is because only God can atone for our sins; we can’t do it on our own because we are finite, sinful beings and we cannot please an infinitely holy God.  Jesus had to be a man to be able to die for humanity.  This means that Jesus took our place on the cross; that is, He took our place and suffered the wrath of God the Father.  If you trust in what Christ has done, then you will be saved from the righteous judgment of God.  More on that next.

God is infinitely holy, sinless, and just.  When we sin, when we do something contrary to God’s will, then we have offended God.  Since He is infinite, our offense against Him takes on an infinite quality — because of who we have offended:  an infinite God. Since no person can please an infinite God (because we are finite and sinners) then the only one left to remove our sins is God Himself.  Therefore, Jesus is God in flesh, the one who died on the cross, bore our sin in his body (1 Pet. 2:24), and physically rose from the dead.

Right now, in heaven, Jesus is still in the form of a man: “For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,” (1 Tim. 2:5).  Jesus rose from the dead in the same body he died in: “Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.’ 20 The Jews therefore said, ‘It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?’  21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body.  22 When therefore He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this; and they believed the Scripture, and the word which Jesus had spoken,” (John 2:19-22).  Also, He retained the wounds of His crucifixion after He rose from the dead: “Then He said to Thomas, “Reach here your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand, and put it into My side; and be not unbelieving, but believing,” (John 20:27).  Forty days after His resurrection He ascended into heaven bodily:  “And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight,” (Acts 1:9).  He will return again from the heavens, and will judge the world and all people:  “This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven,” (Acts 1:11).  Yet, at the same time, He is still divine, “For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,” (Col. 2:9).

Jesus never did anything wrong.  He performed many miracles such as healing, casting out demons, walking on water, calming a storm with the command, raising people from the dead, and rising from the dead himself.  Though there have been many great teachers throughout history, none of them have performed such miracles and claimed to be divine as Jesus claimed.  This is why we can believe Him when He says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me,” (John 14:6).

We trust what Jesus said.  Therefore…

Evangelicals worship (Part 2, Saddleback Church, Rick Warren pastor )

Saddleback Church Music from Night of Worship April 2009 – Rick Muchow – It Is Well

Here is some info from the Saddleback website:

When Rick and Kay Warren first arrived in the Saddleback Valley in December of 1979,

all they had was what they could fit in the back of a U-haul truck. Fresh out of seminary, the young pastor and his bride dreamed of planting a church that would be “a place where the hurting, the depressed, the confused can find love, acceptance, help, hope, forgiveness and encouragement.”

With many good Bible-teaching churches already in Southern California, Pastor Rick turned his attention to those who didn’t attend church regularly. Two weeks after Pastor Rick and Kay arrived in the Saddleback Valley, they began with a small Bible study, meeting with one other family in the Warrens’ small condo.

On Easter of 1980, Saddleback Valley Community Church held its very first public service and 205 people, most of who had never been to church, showed up. That began one of the most exciting journeys of growth that any church has experienced in American history. In more than two decades of ministry in South Orange County, God has continued to expand the church’s influence. Currently, Saddleback Church has more than 200 ministries serving the church and community. One in nine people in the area call Saddleback their church home.

God has also expanded the church’s ministry both nationally and internationally. Pastor Rick’s 1995 book The Purpose Driven Church put the principles that led to the church’s success in print, namely its focus on the five biblical purposes of the church: worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry and evangelism. Now, more than 200,000 church leaders from around the world have been trained in Saddleback’s purpose-driven philosophy. Pastor Rick’s latest book, The Purpose Driven Life, focuses on the truth that life is “not about you,” and shows how God can enable each of us to live for His purposes.
