Barrett Jones for Heisman? Part 1

I saw him play in person at the 52-0 Bama victory over my Hogs in Fayetteville a few weeks ago and I must say that Barrett Jones is deserving of consideration of the Heisman Trophy. This is not the first time I have written about this subject. Jones grew up at the same church I went to in Memphis growing up (Bellevue Baptist) and he graduated from the same high school that I did (Evangelical Christian School). I wrote an article last year about Barrett and I just wrote a few weeks ago and they both were published in the Saline Courier and can be found on that website.

Here is what a Florida columnist thinks below:

David Jones: Is Alabama lineman Barrett Jones Heisman-worthy?

Crimson Tide senior is one of college football’s best

Western Kentucky v Alabama

Maybe the time, finally, has come?

A lot of Heisman Trophy voters may be thinking that way come December, especially if some of the early favorites stumble — like Southern Cal quarterback Matt Barkley did in the Trojans’ 21-14 loss to Stanford last week.

Barrett Jones probably won’t carry the football, throw it or catch a pass in 2012. But he very well could be the best player in college football during the past few years.

But is that Heisman worthy? Give this a quick thought. If not Jones, then who deserves consideration more?

This could be the year when the voters will have to change their thinking, especially if Alabama is knocking on the door of another national title — which would be the third in Jones’ four seasons — and another Tide running back is also contending for a 1,000-yard season.

Mark Ingram won the Heisman in 2009 with Jones blocking for him. Trent Richardson was a finalist in 2011 with Jones, again, leading the way for him.

Finally, it might be time to admit, the Heisman Trophy should be an award that goes to someone other than a skill position player. Jones will go down in college football history as one of the greatest offensive linemen the game has known. He’s made All-American the past three seasons. He won the Outland Trophy as the top lineman in the nation last fall.

Jones began 2012 with 36 starts — 25 at guard, 11 at tackle. And this season, he once again showed his unselfishness by moving to center. The 300-pounder could end up being one of the top three picks in the next NFL Draft. And he’s shown his overall talents by also making Academic All-American three straight years.

A model citizen, a team leader, a huge talent. If he was a quarterback, college experts would be comparing him to Tim Tebow or Herschel Walker. But instead of running through holes, he’s been the one making them.

His move to center was as unselfish as Tebow moving to fullback or Walker becoming a wide receiver to help strengthen the team where depth was lacking.

“It just becomes second nature to you,” Jones said of sliding to center. “It just takes a lot of practice. It’s like anything else; it takes a lot of practice to where you’re not even thinking about it.”

After crushing Michigan in the season opener, the Tide jumped back atop the AP poll again this fall, leaping over Southern Cal and prompting a lot of experts to gush over ’Bama’s deep backfield and talented line.

Did they just forget Jones was there? Actually, most are stunned he still is.

“I prayed about it and I just felt like I would have an opportunity to do things like share my faith, to get a chance to speak at some cool places, to have some influence over kids and over other people,” Jones said of why he put the NFL off for one more year. “I just knew it would be a unique opportunity that I might never get again. That’s a big reason why I came back.”

His brother, Harrison, also joined the program — which made the decision even more unique.

The running game is already crushing opponents and making others wonder if perhaps the Tide will just run over the rest of college football. It almost seems like anyone can gain five yards behind the incredibly talented linemen.

“We do feel like whoever you plug in there (at running back) we’re going to have success,” Jones said. “We’re confident, we have four guys coming back and we feel really, really good about what we’re doing up front and our communication, which is so key.

“I think sometimes the best offensive lines aren’t the ones who are the most talented, they’re the ones who communicate the best and I feel like this year we have a ton of talent. Combine that with communication, and we’ll have hopefully the best offensive line I’ve been a part of.”

Regardless of whether Jones gets another national title ring, he already realizes he has been a part of something very special in college football with two championships in his career. He took the time to watch the game tape of both prior national title game wins before this season started.

“It is so, so different to get 85 players to come together and accomplish something like win a national championship,” Jones said. “That’s why you remember it, it’s so hard, there are so many good teams out there and when you accomplish something like that with a good group of guys, that’s something that sticks with you for a long time.”

So what about one more national title before living Tuscaloosa?

“We don’t talk about repeat. We just talk about going and playing every game to the best of our ability,” Jones said.

In 2010, he felt the team got complacent as the defending national champions. He vowed that won’t happen this time around. And if the Crimson Tide are contenders in December? How do you not invite him to New York for the Heisman ceremony? After all, he led the way for two other finalists for the award.

Forget he’s a lineman, forget he has no stats to compare to other offensive stars. If Alabama wins the SEC, it could be his turn to check out Times Square.

Chris Martin was brought up as an evangelical Christian but he left the faith once he left his childhood home. However, there are been some actions in his life in the last few years that demonstrate that he still is grappling with his childhood Chistian beliefs. This is the seventh part of a series I am starting on this subject and today I want to talk about the word “heaven” which is mentioned in some Coldplay songs. Chris Martin grew up with the biblical view that heaven exists and he has left his biblical views behind now but he just can’t shake this view that heaven exists and he wants to go there someday.

On June 23, 2012 my son Wilson and I got to attend a Coldplay Concert in Dallas. It was great. One of my favorite songs is “Glass of Water” from 2008 but they didn’t play it. Here is a clip of it off youtube:

The song “Glass of Water” sheds some more light on where we could possibly go after we die: “Oh he said you could see a future inside a glass of water, with riddles and the rhymes, He asked ‘Will I see heaven in mine?’ ”

Coldplay is clearly searching for spiritual answers but it seems they have not found them quite yet. The song “42“: “Time is so short and I’m sure, There must be something more.” Then in the song “Lost” Martin sings these words: “Every river that I tried to cross, Every door I ever tried was locked..”

Coldplay’s encounter with God in Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends

by George Critchley, Damaris TrustPosted: Wednesday, July 9, 2008, 11:13 (BST)

The writer of Ecclesiastes shares this experience as he writes:Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.
What does anyone gain from their toil under the sun?
Generations come and go but the earth remains forever. (Ecclesiastes 1:2-4, NIV)
The reason he sees for this lack of meaning, is that ‘God has put eternity in the hearts of men’ (Ecc. 3:11), which suggests that, compared to eternity, everything else is temporary and therefore useless. In the chorus of ‘Viva La Vida’, the thought comes to the displaced king that, despite all his time and effort constructing a great and powerful kingdom, with security and wealth, he has wasted his time, as all his work has not earned him a place in heaven: ‘I know Saint Peter won’t call my name.’Even the singer says it is about arriving at the Pearly gates. ‘It’s about . . .[finding] you’re not on the list . . . It’s always fascinated me, that idea of finishing your life and then being analyzed on it,’ Martin told Q magazine.Thankfully, this bitter regret at the realisation of a wasted life does not need to be an inevitability, as Jesus revealed that there is a way to ‘store up treasure in heaven’(Matthew 6:19-24). This doesn’t mean working just as hard for worthy causes, but instead making Jesus your treasure, for when all else passes away, all kingdoms have fallen, and all security is gone, God will remain: timeless, everlasting, unchanging and secure. As this Coldplay album finishes, the final track illustrates the conclusion they have reached as a result of this discovery of the temporary nature of the world, and the inevitability of death, as the whole band sing in unison:I don’t want to battle from beginning to end,
I don’t want a cycle of recycled revenge,
I don’t want to follow death and all of his friends.
It appears that the best selling album of the year, a record-breaker by many accounts, is one which taps into the yearning of every heart, for eternity, for peace, and ultimately, for God.

John MacArthur on Romans 1 and the Democratic Party

John MacArthur explains God’s Wrath on unrighteousness from Romans Chapt…

First is what Romans says:

Romans 1:18-32

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Unbelief and Its Consequences

18 For (A)the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who (B)suppress the truth [a]in unrighteousness, 19 because (C)that which is known about God is evident [b]within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For (D)since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, (E)being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not [c]honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became (F)futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 (G)Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and (H)exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and [d]crawling creatures.

24 Therefore (I)God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be (J)dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for [e]a (K)lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, (L)who is blessed [f]forever. Amen.

26 For this reason (M)God gave them over to (N)degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is [g]unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, (O)men with men committing [h]indecent acts and receiving in [i]their own persons the due penalty of their error.

28 And just as they did not see fit [j]to acknowledge God any longer, (P)God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are (Q)gossips, 30 slanderers, [k](R)haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, (S)disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, (T)unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of (U)death, they not only do the same, but also (V)give hearty approval to those who practice them.

Here is what John MacArthur had to say:

Now, all of a sudden, not only is this characteristic of our nation, but we now promote it. One of the parties, the Democratic Party, has now made Romans 1, the sins of Romans 1, their agenda. What God condemns, they affirm. What God punishes, they exalt. Shocking, really. The Democratic Party has become the anti-God party, the sin-promoting party. By the way, there are seventy-two million registered Democrats in this country who have identified themselves with that party and maybe they need to rethink that identification.

I know from last week’s message that there was some response from people who said, “Why are you getting political?”

Romans 1 is not politics. The Bible is not politics. This has nothing to do with politics. This has to do with speaking the Word of God through the culture in which we live. It has nothing to do with politics. It’s not about personalities; it’s about iniquity and judgment. And why do we say this? Because this must be recognized for what it is–sin, serious sin, damning sin, destructive sin.

The White House Disinformation Campaign on Libya

Published on Oct 7, 2012 by

An Incriminating Timeline: http://herit.ag/WMfTr6 | New evidence shows there were security threats in Benghazi, Libya, in the months prior to the deadly September 11, 2012, attack that killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. Despite these threats, the Obama Administration and State Department left its personnel there to fend for themselves.

__________

It seems the White House can not get their facts right, or maybe they didn’t want the American people to know the real facts?

Helle Dale

October 12, 2012 at 5:10 pm

Vice President Biden’s assertions during the debate last night showed either a lack of information or a willful disregard for the facts.

Biden stated in relation to the September 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi—which killed four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens—that “We weren’t told they wanted more security. We did not know they wanted more security there.”

Biden’s assertions squarely contradict headline-grabbing testimony given just the day before to Members of Congress. At Wednesday’s hearing of the House Oversight and Government Accountability Committee, Eric Nordstrom, a regional security officer at the U.S.embassy in Tripoli, described his intense frustration at having his requests for more security turned down by State Department officials. In fact, said the exasperated Nordstrom, fighting violent extremists inLibya was nowhere near as tough as fighting bureaucrats inWashington.

A timeline of the events leading up to the terrorist attack on September 11 shows that terrorism is indeed alive and well in Libya, a very inconvenient fact for the Obama Administration. The U.S. consulate had been attacked with explosive devices twice in six months, and diplomatic vehicles were routinely targets of assault and attempted kidnappings. The British ambassador had also been attacked, as had the building of the International Red Cross.

The Obama Administration continues to cling to the fiction that Libya is an Arab Spring success story, where normalizing relations and downgrading security would be appropriate. Even in the face of this terrorist attack, Charlene Lamb, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Diplomatic Security, stated at Wednesday’s hearing that security in Libya was “exactly right.” Unbelievable.

The aftermath of the Benghazi attack—one might call it the cover-up—is equally messy. The State Department appears determined to not take the blame and is shifting blame back to the White House for the post-attack cover-up. In two conference calls Tuesday—one with staff of five congressional committees and one with reporters (minus Fox News)—unnamed State Department officials denied that there was ever a demonstration outside the Benghazi consulate over the anti-Islam YouTube video “The Innocence of Muslims.” “That was not our conclusion,” the officials said repeatedly.

This distances the State Department from the official White House line that the 14-minute amateurish video was the cause of it all and not resurgent al-Qaeda terrorism. In particular, it distances the State Department from U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice and her five now-famous Sunday show appearances in which she unswervingly peddled the White House line as a fact.

Most importantly, however, it is now amply clear that terrorism did not die with Osama bin Laden and that we do not have a policy to deal with it. The Vice President got that one wrong, too.

Open letter to President Obama (Part 154)

David Barton on Glenn Beck – Part 1 of 5

Uploaded by  on Apr 9, 2010

Wallbuilders’ Founder and President David Barton joins Glenn Beck on the Fox News Channel for the full hour to discuss our Godly heritage and how faith was the foundational principle upon which America was built.

___________

President Obama c/o The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President,

I know that you receive 20,000 letters a day and that you actually read 10 of them every day. I really do respect you for trying to get a pulse on what is going on out here.

There have been many articles written by evangelicals like me who fear that our founding fathers would not recognize our country today because secular humanism has rid our nation of spiritual roots.

Lillian Kwon noted in her article, “Christianity losing out to Secular Humanism?” :

America once stood on the foundation of God’s Word. But that foundation is crumbling – even in the church – and being replaced by man’s word, observed one Christian apologist.

“Whatever we (America) once were, we are no longer. We have changed,” said Ken Ham, president of Answers in Genesis, in his second State of the Nation address on Tuesday.

The Young Earth creationist was citing President Obama’s well-known mantra that America is no longer just a Christian nation as he delivered an hour-long speech outlining where America and Christianity stand today – just weeks after Obama’s State of the Union address.

He sees Christianity being thrown out of the public sector and mocked and generations of Americans building their worldview on secular humanism.

“Most of the founding fathers of this nation … built the worldview of this nation on the authority of the Word of God,” he said. “Because of that, there have been reminders in this culture concerning God’s Word, the God of creation.”

David Barton did a great job with this article America’s Religious Heritage As Demonstrated in Presidential Inaugurations :

David Barton – 01/2009
America’s Religious Heritage
As Demonstrated in Presidential InaugurationsReligious activities at presidential inaugurations have become the target of criticism in recent years, 1 with legal challenges being filed to halt activities as simple as inaugural prayers and the use of “so help me God” in the presidential oath. 2 These critics – evidently based on a deficient education – wrongly believe that the official governmental arena is to be aggressively secular and religion-free. The history of inaugurations provides some of the most authoritative proof of the fallacy of these modern arguments. In fact, since America’s first inauguration in 1789 included seven distinct religious activities, that original inauguration is worthy of review. Every inauguration since 1789 has included numerous of those activities. The First InaugurationConstitutional experts abounded at America’s first inauguration. Not only was the first inauguree (George Washington) a signer of the Constitution but numerous drafters of the Constitution were serving in the Congress that organized and directed that first inauguration. In fact, just under one fourth of the members of the first Congress had been delegates to the Convention that wrote the Constitution. 3 Furthermore, the identical Congress that directed and oversaw these inaugural activities also penned the First Amendment. Having therefore produced both the Constitution and all of its clauses on religion, they clearly knew what types of religious activities were and were not constitutional. Clearly, then, the religious activities that occurred at the first inauguration may well be said to have the approval and imprimatur of the greatest collection of constitutional experts America has ever known. Therefore, a review of the religious activities acceptable in that first inauguration will provide guidance for citizens in general and critics in particular. The first inauguration occurred in New York City. (New York City served as the nation’s capital for the first year of the new federal government; for the next ten, Philadelphia was the capital city; in 1800, the federal government moved to Washington, D. C. for its permanent home). George Washington had been at home at Mt. Vernon when Charles Thomson, Secretary of the Continental Congress, notified him that he had been unanimously elected as the nation’s first president.

On receiving this news, Washington departed from Mt. Vernon and began his trek toward New York City, stopping first at Fredericksburg, Virginia, to visit his mother, Mary¬ – the last time the two would see each other. Mary was eighty-two and suffering from incurable breast cancer. Mary parted with her son, giving him her blessings and offering him her prayers, telling him: “You will see me no more; my great age and the disease which is rapidly approaching my vitals, warn me that I shall not be long in this world. Go, George; fulfill the high destinies which Heaven appears to assign to you; go, my son, and may that Heaven’s and your mother’s blessing be with you always.” 4Washington did go, and he did indeed fulfill the high destinies assigned him by Heaven. A moving painting was made of her giving him her final charge; his mother passed away a few months after that final meeting.

Leaving his mother, Washington continued northward toward New York City. In town after town along the way, special dinners and celebrations were held – including in Alexandria, Georgetown, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Trenton, and other locations. Finally reaching Elizabethtown, New Jersey, Washington boarded a barge that carried him the rest of the way, where another celebration awaited him upon entering New York Harbor.

On April 30th, 1789, George Washington was to be inaugurated on the balcony outside Federal Hall. (Federal Hall was originally named Old Hall, but New York City – in an effort to convince the new federal government that the City was serious about becoming the national capital – remodeled the structure, renaming it Federal Hall. The House and Senate met in two chambers inside that Hall, and the inauguration took place on the remodeled building’s balcony.) Incidentally, religious activities had been planned to precede the inauguration, with the people of New York City being called to a time of prayer. The papers in the Capital City reported on that scheduled activity:

[O]n the morning of the day on which our illustrious President will be invested with his office, the bells will ring at nine o’clock, when the people may go up to the house of God and in a solemn manner commit the new government, with its important train of consequences, to the holy protection and blessing of the Most high. An early hour is prudently fixed for this peculiar act of devotion and . . . is designed wholly for prayer. 5

The preparations for the inauguration had been extensive; everything had been well planned; the event seemed to be proceeding smoothly. The parade carrying Washington by horse-drawn carriage to the swearing-in was nearing Federal Hall when it was realized that no Bible had been obtained for administering the oath. Parade Marshal Jacob Morton hurried to the nearby Masonic Lodge and grabbed its large 1767 King James Bible.

The Bible was laid upon a crimson velvet cushion (held by Samuel Otis, Secretary of the Senate) and, with a huge crowd gathered below watching the ceremony on the balcony, New York Chancellor Robert Livingston was to administer the oath of office. (Robert Livingston had been one of the five Founders who had drafted the Declaration of Independence; however, he was called back to New York to help his State through the Revolution before he could affix his signature to the very document he had helped write. As Chancellor, Livingston was the highest ranking judicial official in New York.) Beside Livingston and Washington stood several distinguished officials, including Vice President John Adams, original Supreme Court Chief Justice John Jay, Generals Henry Knox and Philip Schuyler, and a number of others. The Bible was opened at random to the latter part of Genesis; Washington placed his left hand upon the open Bible, raised his right, and then took the oath of office prescribed by the Constitution. Washington then bent over and kissed the Bible, reverently closed his eyes, and said, “So help me God!” Chancellor Livingston then proclaimed, “It is done!” Turning to the crowd assembled below, he shouted, “Long live George Washington – the first President of the United States!” That shout was echoed and re-echoed by the crowd below.

Critics today claim that George Washington never added “So help me God!” to his oath 6 – that associating religious intent with the oath is of recent origins. After all, the presidential oath of office as prescribed in Article II of the Constitution simply states:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

But overlooked by many today is the fact that the Framers of our government considered an oath to be inherently religious – something George Washington affirmed when he appended the phrase “So help me God” to the end of the oath. In fact, it was universally acknowledged by every American legal scholar of that day that any legally-binding oath was overtly religious in nature. As signer of the Declaration John Witherspoon succinctly explained:

An oath is an appeal to God, the Searcher of Hearts, for the truth of what we say and always expresses or supposes an imprecation [a calling down] of His judgment upon us if we prevaricate [lie]. An oath, therefore, implies a belief in God and His Providence and indeed is an act of worship. . . . Persons entering on public offices are also often obliged to make oath that they will faithfully execute their trust. . . . In vows, there is no party but God and the person himself who makes the vow. 7

Open letter to Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin concerning their choice to raise their kids in the Jewish Faith (part 3)

gwyneth paltrow 230x300 Gwyneth Paltrow Wants a Baby

The Birth Of Israel (2008) – Part 3/8

I have posted before about the religious views of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin. Now it appears they have rejected their agnostic statements of the past and have decided to raise their children in the Jewish faith.

Here is a post from the Huffington Post:

After appearing on the television program, “Who Do You Think You Are,” Gwyneth Paltrow has decided to raise children Apple, 7, and Moses, 5, as Jewish.

According to The Daily Mail, the NBC ancestry show sparked the discovery that the actress descended from a notable line of Eastern European rabbis. Though she’s long practiced Kabbalah, Gwyneth had previously stayed neutral about a formal religion upbringing in her household, which includes crooner husband Chris Martin, who is of Christian background.

“I don’t believe in religion. I believe in spirituality. Religion is the cause of all the problems in the world,” the actress once told The Daily Mail.

_______________

Below is a letter I mailed to Chris and Gwyneth recently:

To Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow, c/o Go Go Pictures, 12 Cleveland Row, London, SW1A 1DH, United Kingdom, , From Everette Hatcher, 13900 Cottontail Lane, Alexander, AR 72002, USA:

I have been a huge fan of both of you and have posted many times on my blog about your religious views which have seemed to have changed over the years. I know that Chris was brought up as an evangelical Christian, but has long ago left the faith behind although he did revisit many biblical themes in his 2008 and 2011 cds.

In fact, on June 3, 2011 on my blog (www.thedailyhatch.org) I wrote:

I have shown what thought processes Solomon went through in Ecclesiastes and then compared them to the evident changes that are occurring with Coldplay. By the way, the final chapter of Ecclesiastes finishes with Solomon emphasizing that serving God is the only proper response of man. My prediction: I am hoping that Coldplay’s next album will also come to that same conclusion that Solomon came to in Ecclesiastes 12:13-14:
13 Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.

I have also written before about Gwyneth’s famous Jewish relatives which includes a famous Rabbi and I have wondered if she would decide to return to those roots. Actually that is what has happened. I salute you for rejecting your earlier statements against organized religion and for making the decision to teach your children the Bible and to have faith in God.

I know that you will spending lots of time in the scriptures and I wanted to share with you some key scriptures that talk about the Messiah being pierced.

Dr. Hugh Ross noted:

Let me point out that some 400 years before crucifixion was invented, both Israel’s King David and the prophet Zechariah described the Messiah’s death in words that perfectly depict that mode of execution. Further, they said that the body would be pierced and that none of the bones would be broken, contrary to customary procedure in cases of crucifixion (Psalm 22 and 34:20; Zechariah 12:10). Again, historians and New Testament writers confirm the fulfillment: Jesus of Nazareth died on a Roman cross, and his extraordinarily quick death eliminated the need for the usual breaking of bones. A spear was thrust into his side to verify that he was, indeed, dead.

Zechariah 12:10 (New International Version)

Mourning for the One They Pierced

10 “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit [a] of grace and supplication. They will look on [b] me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.

Probably the most amazing fact to me is that the prophet Moses foretold (with some additions by Jeremiah and Jesus) that the ancient Jewish nation would be conquered twice and that the people would be carried off as slaves each time, first by the Babylonians (for a period of 70 years), and then by a fourth world kingdom (which we know as Rome). The second conqueror, Moses said, would take the Jews captive to Egypt in ships, selling them or giving them away as slaves to all parts of the world. Both of these predictions were fulfilled to the letter, the first in 607 B.C. and the second in 70 A.D. God’s spokesmen said, further, that the Jews would remain scattered throughout the entire world for many generations, but without becoming assimilated by the peoples or of other nations, and that the Jews would one day return to the land of Palestine to re-establish for a second time their nation (Deuteronomy 29; Isaiah 11:11-13; Jeremiah 25:11; Hosea 3:4-5 and Luke 21:23-24).

This prophetic statement sweeps across 3500 years of history to its complete fulfillment—in our lifetime.  ( last two points from http://www.reasons.org/fulfilled-prophecy-evidence-reliability-bible )

Isaiah 11:11-13 (New International Version)

11 In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, [a] from Cush, [b] from Elam, from Babylonia, [c] from Hamath and from the islands of the sea.

12 He will raise a banner for the nations
       and gather the exiles of Israel;
he will assemble the scattered people of Judah
from the four quarters of the earth.

 13 Ephraim’s jealousy will vanish,
       and Judah’s enemies [d] will be cut off;
Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah,
       nor Judah hostile toward Ephraim.

Amos 9:11-15 (New International Version)

Israel’s Restoration

11 “In that day I will restore
       David’s fallen tent.
I will repair its broken places,
       restore its ruins,
and build it as it used to be,

12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom
and all the nations that bear my name, [a]
declares the LORD, who will do these things.

13 “The days are coming,” declares the LORD,
“when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman
and the planter by the one treading grapes.
New wine will drip from the mountains
and flow from all the hills.

 14 I will bring back my exiled [b] people Israel;
they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them.
       They will plant vineyards and drink their wine;
they will make gardens and eat their fruit.

15 I will plant Israel in their own land,
       never again to be uprooted

from the land I have given them,”
       says the LORD your God.

Setting the record straight on the first presidential debate is very easy if you are a reader of the Heritage Foundation website!!! Here are some examples below taken from Romina Boccia‘s excellent article from October 4, 2012:

Romina Boccia

During last night’s presidential debate, claims were flying fast and furious. Some of these claims were true, others false. Here are the top 10—see which ones you can guess as either true or false.

7.      Natural gas production is up in spite of Obama’s policies, not because of them.

Romney: “[T]he President pointed out correctly that production of oil and gas in the U.S. is up. But not due to his policies. In spite of his policies. Mr. President, all of the increase in natural gas and oil has happened on private land, not on government land.”

True.Much of the increased oil and gas production is on private lands, over which the Administration has no control. According to a recent report from the Energy Information Administration, energy production decreased 13 percent on federal lands in fiscal year (FY) 2011 compared to FY 2010.

8.      Businesses can take a deduction for moving jobs overseas.

Obama: “I also want to close those loopholes that are giving incentives for companies that are shipping jobs overseas.”

False.President Obama falsely claimed businesses can take a deduction for moving jobs overseas. No such deduction exists. Moreover, President Obama demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of how the global economy works by suggesting that companies investing overseas destroy jobs at home. A U.S. business investing abroad is good for the U.S. economy because it makes the company more competitive at home and abroad in selling products into global markets, which often creates more jobs for Americans.

9.      America’s corporate tax rate is uncompetitive.

Obama: “When it comes to our tax code, Governor Romney and I both agree that our corporate tax rate is too high, so I want to lower it, particularly for manufacturing, taking it down to 25 percent.”

True. At over 39 percent, the U.S. has the highest corporate tax rate among industrialized nations. The average of all industrialized countries in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), including the U.S. rate, is about 25 percent. To regain standing compared to competing nations, Congress should lower the rate so it is on par with the current OECD average. Despite this, President Obama has proposed to raise taxes on those firms with multinational operations. This would not insource jobs, but outsource ownership of U.S. firms.

10.  Social Security is structurally sound.

Obama: “Social Security is structurally sound. It’s going to have to be tweaked, [but] the basic structure is sound.”

False. Social Security is running permanent and growing deficits, threatening a 25 percent cut in Social Security benefits in 21 years. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) recently confirmed that Social Security has been running deficits of about 4 percent for two years in a row and that these will only get worse over time. CBO projects that Social Security’s deficits will average 10 percent over the next decade and then exceed 20 percent by 2030 as more baby boomers retire.

Paul Finebaum speaks at Little Rock Touchdown Club Part 3

Harvey Updyke Interview on The Paul Finebaum Show 4 21 11 Part 3

Bobby Petrino going to Tennessee later this year? I thought he would jump at the chance to do that. However, the Vols have looked pretty good this year and if they go into Miss St’s homefield this week and beat the #17 ranked Bulldogs and get on a roll then the Vols may end up ranked at the end of the year and be happy with Derek Dooley. Paul Finebaum is not buying that theory. He actually even said that Tennessee would not be interested in Petrino because of his baggage and everything they have been through recently.

I heard Finebaum speak on Oct 8, 2012 at the Little Rock Touchdown Club and below is the report from the Arkansas Sports 360 website:

10/8/2012 at 3:42pm

Paul Finebaum, the Birmingham, Ala.-based national radio talk show host and sports columnist, had plenty of regional targets for his witty jabs Monday in a return visit to the Little Rock Touchdown Club.

Finebaum, who last visited the club in 2006 — just before Houston Nutt’s star rose again at Fayetteville and Mike Shula’s fell at Alabama — found plenty to work with just from the weekend, where the clownish John L. Smith finally got a Football Bowl Subdivision win as Arkansas’ head coach at the expense of the beleaguered Auburn head coach, Gene Chizik.

Finebaum admitted that Arkansas had “made my life easier since April 1,” when Bobby Petrino had his infamous motorcycle wreck that ultimately led to his firing nine days later.

Finebaum, ranked by one national sports site as one of the top 25 most influential figures in college sports, and only one of two media members on the list, said that Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long and the university are at a crossroads, much like what faced Alabama at the end of the 2006 season, before Crimson Tide AD Mal Moore continued to pursue Miami Dolphins Coach Nick Saban until he hired him.

Finebaum noted the university’s strong academic standing, like Alabama’s, but said there is a need for such a school to have a great football program as the face of the school.

“Jeff Long is about to make not only the most important decision in his career, but the most important decision in the history of the University of Arkansas,” Finebaum said.

Noting the entrance of neighbors Missouri and Texas A&M to the Southeastern Conference this year, Finebaum added, “A bad hire here is going to cripple the program for a long time. … He better get it right because from the people around here I’ve talked to, he has a short leash.

“We all talked about what a courageous decision [Long] made in the spring [firing Petrino]. It was the only thing he could do. … The damage to the program has been incalculable, but it can come back.”

Finebaum reminded the audience, who after six years might have thought Saban ran to Alabama, that the fact was Saban turned Moore down and West Virginia’s Rich Rodriguez briefly accepted the Tide head coaching job before having second thoughts. Moore was being scathed by columnists and TV commentators but “took a deep breath,” Finebaum said, went back after Saban and wouldn’t take no for an answer “and hired the best coach he could find.”

Who the current “next Nick Saban is” was a question even Finebaum couldn’t answer, nor could anyone who asked questions about the coaching search during a Q&A to wrap up the luncheon.

Finebaum did toss out the familiar names gracing most Hosg coaching search speculation reports, starting with Batesville native and UCA grad Charlie Strong, who last week attempted to distance himself from the Arkansas job and pledge his loyalty to a Louisville program that gave him his first head coaching job.

Other names of possibilities with even remote connections to the UA, and whether Finebaum thought they were viable, were Baylor’s Art Briles, former UA assistant and first-year UAB head coach Garrick McGee, Texas Tech’s Tommy Tuberville (greeted with silence by the crowd, by the way), Butch Davis (“he’d be a home run hire,” Finebaum said, “but does he have too much baggage?”), South Florida’s Skip Holtz and Arkansas State’s Gus Malzahn.

“Did anybody see the Auburn offense without Gus Malzahn?” Finebaum joked. “He can coach.”

Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen and Vanderbilt’s James Franklin were mentioned, as was Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. “Is he hirable? I thnk the job he’s looking at is Tennessee,” Finebaum said.

TCU’s Gary Patterson “would be a slam dunk, but is he hirable,” Finebaum said, and Boise State’s Chris Peterson isn’t leaving Boise.

And, about the most recent Arkansas head coach who was unceremoniously disposed, Finebaum said, “Bobby Petrino makes more sense than the guy that’s in there now. But according to John L. Smith, he’s already signed up with Auburn.”

After the luncheon, with a handful of local media, Finebaum said he could see Petrino back in the game as a coordinator or perhaps as a head coach in the right situation. He said he believed Petrino was earnest in his public apology and his interview in August on ESPN, and friends of Petrino have convinced Finebaum that the former Hog head coach is not the same person he was before April 10.

“Right now in terms of the SEC, Kentucky is doable,” Finebaum said of possible Petrino landing spots. “I don’t think Tennessee is. Unfortunately I think most athletic directors are concerned with what people are going to say and think on the higher-up levels of the NCAA hierarchy taking a chance on someone who’s made a terrible mistake but projects to be a great hire.

“But I would hire him.”

Auburn, he said, would have to have a disastrous season for Chizik to lose his job two years after winning a national championship with quarterback Cam Newton, but Saturday’s 24-7 loss to Arkansas and a 1-4 start now makes it look like “a disaster zone” for the Tigers’ faithful.

“I think if that situation becomes more unbearable, [Petrino] becomes more hirable,” Finebaum said. “I really do believe he would make someone a phenomenal choice.”

But it won’t happen at Arkansas. Razorback fans, though, won’t have to fret if Strong is summoned, Finebaum indicated.

“Charlie Strong is the most intriguing name right now for a lot of the obvious reasons,” Finebaum said. “To me, Charlie would be dynamic. A lot of those names would. But this changes by the day, it’s like the Heisman, whoever has a bad game isn’t going to be the leader. But today Charlie Strong looks like the name you hear more about than any other.”

Woody Allen and ‘To Rome, With Love’ to Open LA Film Festival

By Emma Koonse , Christian Post Reporter
April 16, 2012|11:39 am

Film Independent has announced that Woody Allen’s new film “To Rome, With Love” will open the L.A. Film Festival this year after premiering in Italy last week.

The film is made up of four adventures and misadventures and sees numerous A-list actors such as Penelope Cruz, Alec Baldwin, Judy Davis, Roberto Benigni, and Ellen Page, among others.

Ahead of the screening of the film during its premiere Friday, Allen expressed his positive outlook of the film’s setting, Italy, during a news conference.

“[Americans] have an enormously affectionate feeling about Italy,” he declared. They think of Italy as a country that is enormously warm … It’s a very strange place to live, a place that enjoys life and that stands for everything positive about life.”

Headquartered at downtown’s L.A. Live, the film festival will run from June 14-24. More than 200 feature films, shorts, and music videos will be presented from over 30 countries during the event.

Following Friday’s premiere of the film in the Eternal City, Italian critics voiced objections and deemed “To Rome, With Love” as being “superficial,” reported the Associated Press.

Despite its predicted success, Allen was forced to defend his new movie- calling it a tribute to old Italian films and not a means to foster old-fashioned Italian stereotypes. The acclaimed director responded to the critics by explaining his simple desire to entertain audiences with Rome as the film’s setting.

“When I come to a place to make a move, I give you my own impression of it,” said the legendary director. “The things that strike me as dramatic or comic, that would be fun to see. I have no great insights at all into Italian politics, Italian culture.”

The Letty Aronson and Stepehn Tenenbaum-produced film opens in U.S. theaters everywhere on June 22 via Sony Pictures Classics.

Earlier this year, Allen coveted an Academy Award for original screenplay with his hit film “Midnight in Paris.”
