Andrae Crouch-I Don’t Know Why in 2011

Uploaded on May 20, 2011

Andrae Crouch & the Disciples reunited for an afternoon in April, 2011. Joining the singers were two members of their backup band, Bill Maxwell on drums and Hadley Hockensmith on guitar. Legendary bass player Abraham Laboriel was also there and played on a couple of songs. When they sang,”I Don’t Know Why”, Andrae had Sue, a woman from his church join them and at the end of the song Hadley and Abraham added a couple of burning solos.

Andrae Crouch: A Jesus Music Pioneer

Published on May 9, 2013

The late 60’s and early ’70’s were a time of tremendous upheaval in American culture as the hippie generation abandoned the values of their parents, turned to drugs and away from materialism, and went on a search for love and peace.

It was out of this tumultuous era that young, musical voices began to surface. These newly converted musicians began singing about the new hope they had found through Jesus Christ.

Andrae Crouch was one of these young voices. Go behind the scenes with him to look at this exciting era in this clip from, “First Love”.

Arkansas Mother Obliterates Common Core in 4 Minutes!

Karen Lamoreaux, a mother and former National Honor Society member, made waves last month when she appeared before the Arkansas State Board of Education to voice her concerns over the state’s adoption of Common Core national standards. Lamoreaux asked board members to solve a simple math problem.

“Are you ready? Get your pencils out. I’m not kidding,” she said with a big smile captured on video. “Are you smarter than a Common Core fourth-grader? Let’s find out.”

If a class of 18 students counts off by a certain number and ends up with 90, she asked board members, what number did they count by? A board member quickly and correctly answered “5” and explained that she got the number by dividing 90 by 18.  That’s how most of us were taught to find the answer, Lamoreaux responded, but the federal Common Core standards require students to take 108 steps to solve the problem. She held up a chart to make her point.

“This is not rigorous. This is not college-ready,” Lamoreaux, who said she has 12 years of college education, told the Arkansas board. “This is not preparing our children to compete in a global economy.”

Lindsey M. Burke, who has written and spoken at length on national education standards as Heritage’s Will Skillman Fellow in Education Policy, yesterday sympathized with Lamoreaux’s public stance. Burke said:

Centralized standard-setting would force parents and other taxpayers to relinquish one of their most powerful tools for school improvement: control of the academic content, standards and testing through their state and local policymakers. National standards are unlikely to make public schools accountable to families; rather, they are more likely to make schools responsive to Washington, D.C. What we have with Common Core national standards is a one-size-fits-all approach that will tend toward mediocrity and standardization, undercutting the pockets of excellence that currently exist.

In an interview with The Blaze, Lamoreaux told Glenn Beck that teachers as well as fellow parents share her frustration, telling her:

This is what we have to teach. This is the Common Core way. This is the Common Core standard.

Lamoreaux isn’t the first parent to go viral for standing up and speaking out against Common Core. Last fall, The Foundry wrote about a Maryland parent who was thrown out of a public forum held by the Maryland State Department of Education and arrested after he challenged the official line on Common Core. “Is this America?” he asked.

The Foundry also recently reported on concerns that Common Core is leaving students unprepared for math and science.

Psalm 86:5 “For thou, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee” – Deut 30:4 “Even if those who have been forced out are living in the farthest part of heaven, the Lord your God will go in search of you, and take you back”

Take me back, take me back dear Lord To the place where I first believed you. Take me back, take me back dear Lord where I first believed.

I feel that I’m so far from you Lord But still I hear you calling me Those simple things that I once knew, The memories are drawing me. I must confess, Lord I’ve been blessed But yet my soul’s not satisfied. Renew my faith, restore my joy And dry my weaping eyes.

I tried so hard To make it all alone I need your help Just to make it home.

To God be the glory, to God be the glory To God be the glory, For the things He has done With His blood He has saved me And with His power He reached down and raised me Oh To God be the glory, For the things He has done

Just let me live my life And let it be pleasing Lord to Thee And should I gain any praise Let it go to Calvary

With His blood He has saved me And with His power He reached down and raised me To God be the glory For the things He has done

Amy Grant – I Love a Lonely Day

TV’s off at 1am
One more day alone again
The work gets longer every day
Why’d I have to get away?
But I have found a comfort here
Solitude can be so dear
Loneliness is not so blue
When it puts my mind on You

Chorus

I love a lonely day
It makes me think of You
All alone, I can easily find Your love
I love, I love a lonely day
It chases me to You
It clears my heart
Lets my very best part shine through
It’s You.

Lonely people everywhere
Lucky, lonely, ones who care
You’ve got all you need and more
Someone to be lonely for
Someone cries for you to hear
Take your heart and wipe that tear
Give them someone they can miss
Give them love and sing them this

Amy Grant – Raining On the Inside

When all goodbyes
Are said and done
And nighttime finds you home
Are you all right
To spend a night
Of being all alone?

And do you hide
Between the lines
Of conversations past?
A wall of words
A heart unheard
That hides behind a mask?

I’m raining on the inside
My heart wells up with tears that start to pour
I’m raining on the inside
But then Your cries of love break through
And I fall in love with You once more

When friends who care
Can’t be there
To ease away my pain
And peace of mind
It’s hard to find
Like sunlight in the rain

God sees my heart
The deepest part
Inside this lonely me
And reachin’ in
His love begins
To heal the heart in me

I’m raining on the inside
Oh, my heart weels up with tears that start to pour
I’m raining on the inside
But then Your cries of love break through
And I fall in love with You once more

Sometimes we’re raining on the inside
And our hearts well up with tears that start to pour
But when we’re raining on the inside
Let His cries of love break through
Know that He loves you, once more….

Sometimes I’m raining on the inside
But then Your cries of love break through
And I fall in love with You once more

Amy Grant – Got to Let It Go
Featuring: Gary Chapman

All my lifetime plans
Got’ em in my hands
Balancing my fate upon a wire
Got to let it go
Everywhere I turn I see
There’s nowhere left to go
All my dreams are far
Too much for me to hold
Still I hate to drop them
Weren’t they from you
What did I do
You alone can see
Into the heart of me
Am I really givin’ up tomorrow
Got to let it go
This is gonna hurt a little
Still it’s right I know
Even though I fear
Too much of me might show
I can’t wait any longer for it
I’ve had enough
I’ll give it up

Lord, here’s my heart, I’ve been keepin’ it from you
And I’ve got to let it go
Holdin’ on just brings me worry
Got to let it go
Come and take it from me, hurry
Got to let it go
Got to let it go
Got to give up all of my control

Holdin’ on too tight
Where do I lose sight
Where’s the line that seems to bring frustration
Got to let it go
The best of dreams can turn to nightmares
When my heart takes hold
How long must I learn
This lesson’s getting old
I’ve got to catch a clearer vision
I’m in your hand
You’re in command

Amy Grant – I Have Decided

I have decided
I’m gonna live like a believer
Turn my back on the deceiver
I’m gonna live what I believe

I have decided
Being good is just a fable
I just can’t ’cause I’m not able
I’m gonna leave it to the Lord

There’s a wealth of things that I profess
I said that I believed
But deep inside I never changed
I guess I’d been deceived

‘Cause a voice inside kept telling me
That I’d change by and by
But the Spirit made it clear to me
That kind of life’s a lie

I have decided
I’m gonna live like a believer
Turn my back on the deciver
I’m gonna live what I believe

I have decided
Being good is just a fable
I just can’t ’cause I’m not able
I’m gonna leave it to the Lord

So forget the game of being good
And your self-righteous pain
‘Cause the only good inside your heart
Is the good that Jesus brings

And when the world begins to see you change
Don’t expect them to applaud
Just keep your eyes on Him and tell yourself
I’ve become the work of God

I have decided
I’m gonna live like a believer
Turn my back on the deceiver
I’m gonna live what I believe

I have decided
Being good is just a fable
I just can’t ’cause I’m not able
I’m gonna leave it to the Lord

I have decided
I’m gonna live like a believer
Turn my back on the deceiver
I’m gonna live what I believe

I have decided

Open letter to President Obama (Part 483) (A closer look at Boston Marathon terrorists)

(Emailed to White House on 5-6-13)

President Obama c/o The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President,

I know that you receive 20,000 letters a day and that you actually read 10 of them every day. I really do respect you for trying to get a pulse on what is going on out here.

___________

Sad case indeed.

So we’ve now learned that the Boston Marathon terrorists were welfare bums. Why am I not surprised?

“Thanks for the handouts, suckers!”

Heck, it was only a couple of days ago that I announced the Moocher Hall of Fame and included terrorists from theUnited Kingdom and Australia (and I could have included a taxpayer-subsidized terrorist from France as well).

I’m tempted to joke about al Qaeda including welfare applications in their training manuals, but I’m worried that might give them new ideas.

Anyhow, here are some of the predictable details from a story in the Boston Herald.

Marathon bombings mastermind Tamerlan Tsarnaev was living on taxpayer-funded state welfare benefits even as he was delving deep into the world of radical anti-American Islamism, the Herald has learned. State officials confirmed last night that Tsarnaev, slain in a raging gun battle with police last Friday, was receiving benefits along with his wife, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, and their 3-year-old daughter. The state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services said those benefits ended in 2012… In addition, both of Tsarnaev’s parents received benefits, and accused brother bombers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan were recipients through their parents when they were younger, according to the state.

All this raises a broader point about why the United States has a policy of letting people in the country who are not self supporting?

This is the point I made in my Fox Business News debate about immigration. Like most other libertarians, I’m very sympathetic to immigration, but I want people with initiative and ambition, not welfare tourists.

Speaking of welfare tourism, even Europeans realize it’s a problem when people come for handouts rather than opportunity. Here’s a blurb from a Daily Telegraph report.

Theresa May, the Home Secretary, has convinced her counterparts in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands to campaign for tighter restrictions to migrants’ access to welfare handouts and other state-funded services. In a joint letter, the countries have warned that migrants from EU members states are putting “considerable strain” on schools, healthcare and the welfare state…David Cameron has said he wants to restrict migrants’ access to housing benefit, legal aid and the NHS. The letter sent by the four countries warns that the EU free movement directive must not be “unconditional” and that major towns and cities “are under a considerable strain by certain immigrants from other member states”.

Of course, it’s hard to have much sympathy for the politicians in the UK, Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands. After all, they certainly have the power to reduce their overly generous welfare systems.

But instead of taking that sensible step, they want to restrict immigration.

Which brings us back to Milton Friedman’s warning about the incompatibility of opens borders and the welfare state.

But the real reason to pare back the welfare state is that dependency is bad for poor people, regardless of whether they’re native born or immigrants. Even some honest liberals have acknowledged this problem.

If we want to help the less fortunate, economic growth is the best approach. That means free markets and small government.

And the combination of more growth and less welfare will ease concerns about immigration, so it’s a win-win-win situation. What’s not to love?

P.S. Better economic policy is desirable for many reasons, but I’m not under any illusion it will stop terrorism. As I wrote recently, there’s no way to create a risk-free society, particularly when there are people motivated by anti-modernity.

___________

Thank you so much for your time. I know how valuable it is. I also appreciate the fine family that you have and your commitment as a father and a husband.

Sincerely,

Everette Hatcher III, 13900 Cottontail Lane, Alexander, AR 72002, ph 501-920-5733, lowcostsqueegees@yahoo.com

Amy Grant – Arms of Love

Lord I’m really glad You’re here
I hope you feel the same when You see all my fear
And how I fail
I fall sometimes
It’s hard to walk on shifting sand
I miss the rock, and find there’s nowhere left to stand
I start to cry
Lord, please help me raise my hands so You can pick me up
Hold me close
Hold me tighter

I have found a place where I can hide
It’s safe inside
Your arms of love
Like a child who’s helped throughout a storm
You keep me warm
In Your arms of love

Storms will come and storms will go
Wonder just how many storms it takes until
I finally know
You’re here always
Even when my skies are far from gray
I can stay
Teach me to stay there

In the place I’ve found where I can hide
It’s safe inside
Your arms of love
Like a child who’s helped throughout a storm
You keep me warm
In Your arms of love

Amy Grant – In a Little While

Got a ticket coming home
Wish the officer had known
What a day today has been
Then I stumbled through the door
Dropping junk mail on the floor
When will this day end?
But then your letter caught my eye
Brought the hope in me to life
‘Cause you know me very well
And I bet you wrote me
Just to tell me

Chorus

In a little while
We’ll be with the Father
Can’t you see Him smile?
In a little while
We’ll be home forever
In a while….
We’re just here to learn to love Him
We’ll be home in just a little while

Boy, that letter hit the spot
Made me think of all I’ve got
And all that waits for me
Guess I’ve known it all day long
Wonder where my thoughts went wrong
When will my heart believe?
Waking half way through the night
Reaching toward the lamp for light
Picking up the Word I find
Here’s another letter
To remind me

Days like these are just a test of our will
Will we walk or will we fall?
Well, I can almost see the top of the hill
And I believe it’s worth it all

Personal Quotes

[1985] I’ll tell ya, singin’ isn’t any good unless you have something good to sing about.

What I find in life is that it’s not so much about good and bad people, but about good and bad combinations.

I guess a part of being deceived, is that you wouldn’t know it.

Just growing up some, and encountering experiences that proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that I do not understand God’s plan.

You can still cut loose and have a great time, but part of you has to say, “I will take life with open eyes and a thinking mind, and not as self-centered as I was as a child”. When you start looking at life that way you realize that issues on every level on every continent do have an effect on your life.

On marriage: The more time you invest in a marriage, the more valuable it becomes.

I was a Bush supporter, but I was bowled over with President Clinton’s personal magnetism when I met him. I was so not expecting that. He has amazing charisma. His charisma can stop a room. And it’s everything, it’s male… He’s just bigger than life. Very embracing, very warm.

The toughest thing, as a believer, is to see how Christianity is pigeonholed into this one did-you-get-the-memo-on-how-to-vote kind of thing. I am somebody who feels very spiritually alive, and prayer is an integral part of my daily life, along with confession, worship – all those things. But I see how all that’s been quantified, and made a caricature of, and I don’t want to add to a cultural experience that turns people off.

[Of Rich Mullins]: Rich Mullins was the uneasy conscience of Christian music. He didn’t live like a star. He’d taken a vow of poverty so that what he earned could be used to help others.

[on one of ‘Rich Mullins’ (qv}’s music videos]: I think about the shoeless man taken to an extreme. You know, most of us love the first spring day that you can kick your shoes off. But nobody had calluses on their feet like he did. And he was that way with spiritual things too. Most of us, we kinda have a brush with God, and we’re enamored and frightened. But it’s always kinda that barely leaning in. And Rich just had a way of running headlong into the unknown that was frightening to most of us. But in his own unique way, it seemed he always was able to find the edge and look into the abyss and come back and write a song about it and tell us what he’d seen.

Dan Mitchell Discussing Food Stamps, Dependency and Faux Compassion on Kudlow’s CNBC Show

Agriculture: Downsizing The Federal Government

Uploaded on Dec 19, 2008

Agriculture is easily the most distorted sector, with high tariffs and, in developed countries at least, large amounts of government subsidies through price supports and direct payments. On the other hand, developing countries, who have a comparative advantage in these products, cannot afford to subsidize their agriculture sector and face prohibitive tariffs for their products abroad. The powerful agriculture lobby groups, particularly in the large developed countries, make reform politically difficult. Chris Edwards, Sallie James and Dan Ikenson discuss the inequities of American farm policies.

We have to reduce the historically high food stamp budget!!!

Proposed Cuts Would Barely Dent Massive Growth of Food Stamps

December 4, 2013 at 6:17 pm

Food stamp spending is at historic highs—it has doubled twice since 2000. Now some on Capitol Hill say the House is trying to make major cuts to the program, but they’re really making some much-needed policy reforms that would achieve modest savings.

BL-food-stamp-cuts-comparison

The House bill proposes a small 5 percent reduction, while the Senate proposes a mere one-half of 1 percent. Even if the House’s reforms are accepted, food stamp spending is projected to be nearly double 2008 levels. It is also projected to remain at or near historical highs into the foreseeable future.

The House’s savings come from closing loopholes and ending policies that are currently undermining the integrity of the program. These policies have allowed states to artificially boost food stamp levels and expand the program beyond its intended population. While the House takes steps in the right direction to reform food stamps, the Senate does hardly anything.

Food stamps should be reformed to ensure that the program is serving those it is intended to serve. It should also be reformed to promote self-sufficiency through work, thus helping those who are able by encouraging self-sufficiency.
