The medicine for the sickness of spending is real budget cuts but no one in liberal europe wants to hear that. Sadly we are on the same road in the USA.
I wrote a detailed blog post yesterday, showing that European governments have been very reluctant to restrain the burden of government spending.
Part of the problem is that the debate in Europe is a no-win exercise, pitting proponents of higher taxes (which is largely how Europe’s political elite defines “austerity”) against proponents of higher spending (notwithstanding a long track record of failure, the Keynesians have come out of woodwork and are claiming that bigger government stimulates “growth”).

Obama’s Budget Worsens Debt Problem, but The Heritage Plan Solves It
Everyone wants to know more about the budget and here is some key information with a chart from the Heritage Foundation and a video from the Cato Institute.
Spending in the President’s budget proposal for 2012 would drive the debt to 87 percent of the economy by 2021. In contrast, Saving the American Dream: The Heritage Plan to Fix the Debt, Cut Spending, and Restore Prosperity solves the debt problem through strong budget reforms, lowering debt to 58 percent of GDP in just 10 years.

Many times as Christians we look at the world and we notice that many of the righteous are suffering and many of the wicked are prospering. It may cause a believer to question that there is a just God. It really gets us back to the basics. What is true success? Is God enough for the believer?
Our pastor Mark Henry brought a fine message to our church from the 73rd chapter of Psalms on July 8, 2012 and here is the outline of it:
MORE THAN ENOUGH
First, Mark talked about the lyrics in the Chris Tomlin song “Enough”
1-5 No doubt about it! God is good— good to good people, good to the good-hearted.
But I nearly missed it,
missed seeing his goodness.
I was looking the other way,
looking up to the people
At the top,
envying the wicked who have it made,
Who have nothing to worry about,
not a care in the whole wide world.
6-10 Pretentious with arrogance,
they wear the latest fashions in violence,
Pampered and overfed,
decked out in silk bows of silliness.
They jeer, using words to kill;
they bully their way with words.
They’re full of hot air,
loudmouths disturbing the peace.
People actually listen to them—can you believe it?
Like thirsty puppies, they lap up their words.
11-14 What’s going on here? Is God out to lunch?
Nobody’s tending the store.
The wicked get by with everything;
they have it made, piling up riches.
I’ve been stupid to play by the rules;
what has it gotten me?
A long run of bad luck, that’s what—
a slap in the face every time I walk out the door.
15-20 If I’d have given in and talked like this,
I would have betrayed your dear children.
Still, when I tried to figure it out,
all I got was a splitting headache . . .
Until I entered the sanctuary of God.
Then I saw the whole picture:
The slippery road you’ve put them on,
with a final crash in a ditch of delusions.

There’s nothing to them. And there never was.
21-24 When I was beleaguered and bitter,

THE PROSPEROUS LIFE OF THE WICKED:
1. Healthy life

3. Happy Life
V 5-10 ESV They are not in trouble as others are;

Everybody admits that Bobby Petrino was a great coach. Take a look at this comment from Chris Smith of Forbes:
Petrino has plenty of time to find a new job, and he is likely to receive several offers. Morally repugnant as he might be, Petrino’s on-field performance has been stellar. Through eight seasons as head coach of Louisville and Arkansas, Petrino has amassed a 75-26 record and failed to qualify for a bowl game just once. Many schools will undoubtedly take a pass because of the coach’s character flaws, but at least a few teams will gladly overlook Petrino’s off-field incidents in order to secure his services.
Bobby Petrino was a great babysitter according to my friend in Louisville. He said when Petrino left then all these players got thrown in jail and off the team. Sure enough we have had very few problems at Arkansas during Petrino’s time as Arkansas coach but when he left we had 6 players in trouble with the law in the last few months.
Max Brantley of the Arkansas Times has rightly pointed out that there have been many mistakes made by the Razorbacks in the last few decades. However, nobody has been able to manage their players better than Petrino in my view.

You would think, therefore, that Republicans would instinctively recognize that they should hold firm. After all, when your enemy wants you to do something, it’s not because he has your best interests at heart.
But there’s a reason that the GOP is known as the “stupid party” and this year’s tax fight may give them an opportunity to further demonstrate their ineptitude. Especially because Democrats have launched a two-pronged attack in hopes of bullying Republicans into surrender.
Democrats are saying that there will be automatic cuts to the defense budget (sequestration) unless Republicans agree to raise taxes.
Democrats are saying that they’ll let all the Bush tax cuts expire at the end of the year – thus screwing all taxpayers – unless Republicans agree to Obama’s class-warfare proposals to soak the rich.
As such, let’s deal with the second threat, which is actually a repeat of the fight we had back in 2010. Back then, Republicans said that extending the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts was an all-or-nothing proposition, while Democrats issued their own ultimatum and said that the rich should be hit with higher tax rates.
Republicans won that fight, even though they were heavily outnumbered in both the House and Senate. So why, given that they control the House and have many more seats in the Senate, isn’t this year’s fight an easy win for the GOP?
Beats me, but the Democrats are playing hardball, perhaps because they think a fight over class warfare is a good way of distracting voters from the weak economy.
One of the Senate’s top Democrats, Patty Murray of Washington, has thrown down the gauntlet and stated that her colleagues are willing to push all taxpayers off the fiscal cliff. Here’s some of what the Wall Street Journal opined about her remarks.
Democrats must feel really good about their election chances, because their latest campaign strategy is to say how willing and eager they are to leap off the January tax cliff. They’re all but daring Republicans to make the Democrats’ day by refusing to raise taxes before the election. …In a speech at the Brookings Institution, she declared that if Republicans won’t raise taxes on income above $250,000 before November, Democrats will gladly let all of the Bush tax rates expire at the end of the year—even on the middle class, and no matter the economic consequences.
The editors at the WSJ are mystified as to why Democrats are willing to undermine an already weak economy with an election just a few months away.
The Murray Democrats are the ones holding the middle-class rates hostage to a GOP vote to raise taxes on the affluent. …Mrs. Murray may think she’s putting Republicans on the political spot, but her real hostage is the already weak economy. Growth in the first quarter was a mere 1.9%, and economists have steadily downgraded their expectations for the second. As the tax cliff approaches, the policy uncertainty is already causing businesses to hold off on hiring and investment. Even the Keynesians at the Congressional Budget Office say that if all of the Bush tax rates expire, growth will fall close to recession territory.
Since the Democrats aren’t coming to me for advice, I’m not sure about their motives. Are they so wedded to class-warfare tax policy that they’re willing to sacrifice other goals in hopes of penalizing success?
Or are they playing a clever political game, figuring that a GOP surrender on taxes will generate so much discord on the right that it will more than offset any electoral downside of a weaker economy?
I suspect the answer to both questions is “yes,” but mostly to the second question. Which is why this Lisa Benson cartoon is an appropriate way to conclude this post.

I was thrilled with the Razorbacks win in 2011 over the #9 ranked Gamecocks of South Carolina. Will we see another victory in 2012?
The rumbles I am hearing is that the old ball coach is about to take South Carolina to a different level than we have ever seen. It is true that the Gamecocks made it to the SEC Championship game in 2010 and they went 10-2 during the year in 2011. I just don’t think that they can beat Georgia.
They have come a long way because I remember a few years ago when Tennessee beat them every November without any problem. It was funny to see fat Phil doing something that he couldn’t do when Steve was at Florida.
Let’s look at the East and there are some really good sleeping giants there right now. Georgia and Florida are loaded with talent and Tennessee has the best receivers in the whole conference. That is not to mention the chance to get beat by the up and coming Vandy (South Carolina has had problems with that in the past).
The journey to claim the 2012 national title begins in February, March and April, as 124 college football teams open up spring practice over the next three months. Athlon will preview some of the top teams and storylines across the nation, as the countdown to 2012 inches closer.

Offensive Strength: It may just feel weird to say this, but the running backs are the clear strength of Steve Spurrier’s offense. Assuming Marcus Lattimore returns to form, Spurrier will boast the most talented running back in the nation as well as a rising sophomore who posted three 100-yard games in Lattimore’s absence last fall. Toss in a quarterback who carried 135 times and, according to NCAA stats, technically led the team in yards per game (52.5), the ‘Cocks have plenty of people to carry the football.
Offensive Weakness: Just how productive those backs will be depends on filling some holes along the offensive line. There is plenty of talent here to work with, but replacing 31 starts up front, including first-team All-SEC left tackle Rokevious Watkins, won’t be easy.
Defensive Strength: It only took South Carolina two decades, but this defensive line has a decisively SEC-feel to it. It has turned into a year-in, year-out strength for a program that has only been to one SEC title game. Despite losing Melvin Ingram and Travian Robertson, this defensive line is stacked. Combine that with only one departing linebacker, and Carolina boasts one of the best front sevens in the nation.
Defensive Weakness: The secondary will have to be almost completely reworked, however, that may not be as terrible as it sounds. Stephon Gilmore was a solid player but never built on his solid early production. C.C. Whitlock and Marty Markett also depart at corner.
Spring Storylines Facing the Gamecocks:
1. The health of Marcus Lattimore. The guy who will get the most attention this spring for Carolina might not play a single down in spring practice. The former National Freshman of the Year and likely first-team preseason All-American running back is returning from ACL surgery. He will begin to push the knee more this spring — with lateral movements and cutting — but it isn’t worth risking a setback with any contact or team drills. This team went 5-1 with him out of the lineup last year, but with the best back in America fully healthy, this team could easily challenge for an SEC title.
2. Lorenzo Ward is now the sole owner of the defensive coordinator position in Columbia after two very successful campaigns with the Cocks. With Ellis Johnson moving on to take the Southern Miss head coaching position, the onus to continue South Carolina’s stellar play falls to Ward. The bad news is the departure of leaders Melvin Ingram, Rodney Paulk and Antonio Allen. The good news is the defensive line is abosolutely stacked, the secondary is deep and the linebackers are talented. Finding a new ‘Spur,’ filling voids at corner and linebacker will be key. How will Ward put his stamp on a defense that finished third nationally in total defense (behind only Alabama and LSU) and 11th in scoring defense — or should he change much at all?
3. Despite the loss of Allen, D.J. Swearinger, the team’s leading returning tackler and intercepter, returns with DeVonte Holloman to form a solid safety tandem. Holloman should slide into the Spur position vacated by Allen because there is loads of depth behind them. Look for redshirt Sheldon Royster to get plenty of reps with Swearinger still recovering from foot surgery. Yet, the cornerback position lost Gilmore, Whitlock and Markett, so filling these voids is key this spring. Getting Akeem Auguste back healthy on the field will help, but much will be expected from names like Victor Hampton and Jimmy Legree — who shifts over from safety. Even linebacker Edward Muldrow could see time in the secondary. There is plenty of upside and potential in this group, but it also features a lot of moving parts at the moment. This spring should go a long way to fitting the pieces together.
4. A.J. Cann and T.J. Johnson return to the offensive line and will control the interior of the trenches, be it at guard or center for Johnson. The other three spots on the offensive line must be solidified this spring. Cody Gibson and Will Sport will likely compete for the right tackle job while Kyle Harris, Kaleb Broome and freshman Clayton Stadnik should add plenty of depth to the interior. Stud recruit Brandon Shell is the guy the coaching staff is likely rooting for to win the left tackle gig. With Mike Matulis, Brock Stadnik and Travis Ford all missing time with injuries, finding depth and organizing the offensive line two-deep will be important. This is the portion of the team that seems to have held Carolina back over the last decade, so an SEC title could, literally, be on the line.
5. The development of the passing game. With the running backs healthy, and should the offensive line develop, the passing game then becomes the focus. Connor Shaw has had his share of struggles but also proved late last fall that he is clearly the future of the position. His athletic ability was never the problem, but as the season progressed he proved his arm was developing as well. Through his first five starts A.G. (aka After Garcia), Shaw tossed 44 incompletions while connecting on just over 60% of his passes. Over the final three contests, he threw only 14 incomplete passes for a completion rate over 75%. He will enter his junior season as the unquestioned starter and brings stability to a position that has lacked maturity for years. Look for Shaw to filter through a talented but undistinguished receiving corps this spring, and, most importantly, stay healthy. He and his receivers will have to prove this fall they can win games when teams stack the box to stop Lattimore

Most people know that Ronald Reagan was an actor before he became a great President.
So I guess it makes sense for Barack Obama to do the same thing, but in reverse. He’s starting as a bad President, but then will become a Hollywood star.
Some clever person already has put together some potential starring roles. Let’s start with the Wizard of Oz, with some updated dialogue that captures the President’s approach to tax policy.
Bonnie and Clyde is another option, though this one is unfair. Obama supports TARP, which means he wants to rob taxpayers to subsidize banks.
Last but not least, we have a new version of “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Though, to be fair, the President seems to want entitlement checks for everybody.
If I was clever enough to manipulate pictures, I would do one from the scene in Braveheart where Mel Gibson is on horseback, motivating the Scots to fight against the English. But instead of Mel Gibson talking about freedom, we could have the President urging “dependency.”

This song is about life, the title ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ refers to the ups and downs of life. The song deffinately has a great sense of irony about it, the lyrics, ‘try to make ends meet, your a slave to money till you die’ have a message of inevitablitiy about them.
The song furthers this idea of the inevitability of life with the lyrics, I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down, you know the one that takes you to the places where all of ends meet yeah’. The ‘places’ in this case are the end of life or the end of the road in the metaphorical sense the song uses.
The ‘Bittersweet’ aspect can also be see in the lyrics, the singer often expresses hope citing music as an important factor in this ‘I let the melody shine let it clense my mind I feel free now’. However the ‘bitter’ aspect is always shown straight afterwards ‘but the airways are clean and theres nobody singing to me now’.
Essentially ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ is about the realisation that all life will end at some point and uses the metaphor of a road to express this.

Chris Martin has written a lot about this same subject and that is no doubt why he chose this song as the best ever written. (You will see below that the song “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas in 1978 also had the same final result of ‘Bittersweet Symphony.”)

Chris Martin was brought up as an evangelical Christian but he left the faith once he left his childhood home. However, there are been some actions in his life in the last few years that demonstrate that he still is grappling with his childhood Chistian beliefs. Let us take look at a few verses in the Book of Romans chapter one and we will see how they are relevant to a song written by Coldplay.
On June 23, 2012 my son Wilson and I got to attend a Coldplay Concert in Dallas. It was great. I wish they had played “Cemeteries of London” at the Dallas concert since I like that song a lot. Let me show you two points from the Book of Romans:
God reveals Himself in two Ways
Lets take a look at the lyrics from the song “Cemeteries of London:”
God is in the houses
And God is in my head
And all the cemeteries of London
I see God come in my garden
But I don’t know what He said
For my heart, it wasn’t open
Not open
Romans chapter one clearly points out that God has revealed Himself through both the created world around us and also in a God-given conscience that testifies to each person that God exists.
Notice in this song that the song writer notes, “I see God come in my garden” and “God is in my head.” These are the exact two places mentioned by the scripture. Romans 1:18-20 (Amplified version)
18For God’s [holy] wrath and indignation are revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who in their wickedness repress and hinder the truth and make it inoperative.
19For that which is known about God is evident to them and made plain in their inner consciousness, because God [Himself] has shown it to them.

Concerning these verses Francis Schaeffer said:
The world is guilty of suppressing God’s truth and living accordingly. The universe and its form and the mannishness of Man speak the same truth that the Bible gives in greater detail.
This is what Chris Martin is having to deal with and he is clearly searching for spiritual answers but it seems he have not found them quite yet. The song “42“: “Time is so short and I’m sure, There must be something more.” Then in the song “Lost” Martin sings these words: “Every river that I tried to cross, Every door I ever tried was locked..”
Solomon went to the extreme in his searching in the Book of Ecclesiastes for this “something more” that Coldplay is talking about, but he found riches (2:8-11), pleasure (2:1), education (2:3), fame (2:9) and his work (2:4) all “meaningless” and “vanity” and “a chasing of the wind.” Every door he tried was locked.
Solomon is searching for the meaning of life in the Book of Ecclesiastes and that reminds me a lot of the search that Chris Martin is currently in. By the way, the final chapter of Ecclesiastes finishes with Solomon emphasizing that serving God is the only proper response of man. My prediction: I am hoping that Coldplay’s next album will also come to that same conclusion that Solomon came to in Ecclesiastes 12:13-14:
13 Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.
Kerry Livgren of Kansas found Christ eventually after first trying some Eastern Religions. I remember telling my friends in 1978 when “Dust in the Wind” was the number 6 song in the USA that Kansas had written a philosophical song that came to the same conclusion about humanistic man as Solomon did so long ago and I predicted that some members of that band would come to know the Christ of the Bible in a personal way.
