HERITAGE FOUNDATION INTERVIEW:Senator Lee Fights Back Against Obama’s Unconstitutional “Recess” Appointments

Senator Lee Fights Back Against Obama’s Unconstitutional “Recess” Appointments

Uploaded by on Feb 13, 2012

Few lawmakers have expressed as much outrage over President Obama’s unconstitutional “recess” appointments as Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT). He was among the first to warn about the consequences of the president’s unilateral action on Jan. 4.

More than a month later, a new director is running the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and three members of National Labor Relations Board are conducting business—all in blatant violation of the U.S. Constitution, Lee said in an interview with The Heritage Foundation.

Senator Pryor asks for Spending Cut Suggestions! Here are a few!(Part 140)

Senator Mark Pryor wants our ideas on how to cut federal spending. Take a look at this video clip below:

Senator Pryor has asked us to send our ideas to him at cutspending@pryor.senate.gov and I have done so in the past and will continue to do so in the future.

On May 11, 2011,  I emailed to this above address and I got this email back from Senator Pryor’s office:

Please note, this is not a monitored email account. Due to the sheer volume of correspondence I receive, I ask that constituents please contact me via my website with any responses or additional concerns. If you would like a specific reply to your message, please visit http://pryor.senate.gov/contact. This system ensures that I will continue to keep Arkansas First by allowing me to better organize the thousands of emails I get from Arkansans each week and ensuring that I have all the information I need to respond to your particular communication in timely manner.  I appreciate you writing. I always welcome your input and suggestions. Please do not hesitate to contact me on any issue of concern to you in the future.

Here are a few more I just emailed to him myself:

GUIDELINE #7: Consolidate duplicative and contradictory programs.
Government’s layering of new programs on top of old ones inherently creates duplication. Having several agencies perform similar duties is wasteful and confuses program beneficiaries who must navigate each program’s distinct rules and requirements.
Some overlap is inevitable because some agencies are defined by whom they serve (e.g., veterans, Native Americans, urbanites, and rural families), while others are defined by what they provide (e.g., housing, education, health care, and economic development). When these agencies’ constituencies overlap, as in veterans housing or rural economic development, each relevant agency will often have its own program. With 342 separate economic development programs, the federal government needs to make consolidation a priority

This is how bad it is getting:

  • From 1989 through 2008, annual budget deficits averaged $210 billion (adjusted for inflation).
  • President Bush handed President Obama a $1.2 trillion deficit for 2009. Obama added more than $200 billion to it.
  • President Bush’s budget deficits averaged $447 billion. President Obama’s budget shows average deficits of $851 billion over the eight years he would serve if he wins a second term.
  • President Obama’s budget would double the publicly held national debt by 2020.

Senator John Barrasso On the Fight Against Obamacare

Uploaded by on Mar 26, 2012

Sen. John Barrasso earned the nickname “Wyoming’s Doctor” after working for 24 years as an orthopedic surgeon in Casper. Today he represents the state in the U.S. Senate and is one of the leading critics of Obamacare.

More than two decades with patients gave Barrasso a firsthand glimpse of government’s involvement in medicine — at that was before President Obama signed his unpopular health care law in 2009. Last week Barrasso visited Heritage to share his concerns about the doctor-patient relationship and other side effects of Obamacare.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), born to Cuban immigrants, told us in an exclusive interview Wednesday that the pope should make time to see dissidents. Rubio was at Heritage to promote freedom in Cuba, particularly as it relates to technology and Internet access.

Dan Mitchell takes on gun control

I really have got some great videos filled with humor from Dan Mitchell’s blog. Here is another one below:

While there are some statists who viscerally despise freedom and want ordinary citizens disarmed so that only the government has guns, most supporters of gun control presumably are motivated by a sincere desire to reduce crime and violence.

Their problem is a naive assumption that bad people will obey laws banning gun ownership and possession. Or a flawed assumption that the police can be everywhere.

And this is why this video is not only funny, but also a glimpse into the leftist mindset.

It was included in a comment on this post featuring a very funny cartoon, but it definitely deserves more attention.

And if you like videos upholding the right to keep and bear arms, check out this heartwarming Christmas story.

Last but not least, this poster (click to enlarge) is quite effective.

Indeed, this post about the Fort Hood murders, featuring the superb analysis of John Lott, is must reading on the foolishness of so-called gun free zones.

Uploaded by on Mar 8, 2012

http://blog.heritage.org/2012/03/08/in-the-green-room-senator-lamar-alexander… | Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) is the ranking Republican on the Appropriations subcommittee dealing with environmental issues. He is currently working to end subsidies for wind power, an energy source that he dubs “a scam.”

“We don’t have the money” to continue the subsidies, Alexander told Heritage in our latest segment of In the Green Room. “It’s a puny amount of electricity,” he added, “and it’s destroying the environment in the name of saving the environment.”

Alexander agreed that subsidies for other energy sectors should also be eliminated, but he stressed that renewable energy gets far more taxpayer support than its competitors in the fossil fuel and nuclear energy industries.

“I think most people would be surprised to learn that Big Wind subsidies are even bigger than the subsidies that benefit oil directly,” Alexander said, echoing a point that Heritage has repeatedly stressed

Dear Mr. President,

I know that you receive 20,000 letters a day and that you actually read 10 of them every day. I really do respect you for trying to get a pulse on what is going on out here.

The Heritage Foundation website (www.heritage.org ) has lots of good articles and one that caught my attention was concerning your State of Union Speech on January 24, 2012 and here is a short portion of that article:

Insourcing Agenda Displays Misunderstanding of Global Economy – Curtis Dubay

President Obama is right that U.S. businesses face the highest tax rate in the world, but the policies he proposes won’t give relief to U.S. businesses. Instead, his “insourcing” agenda would only make things worse for U.S. businesses competing in growing markets abroad.

Rather than fix the well-known problems with the corporate tax system, President Obama’s would force U.S. businesses to pay tax on their foreign income when they earn it rather than when they return the money to the U.S. That way, these businesses are subject to the highest-in-the-world U.S. corporate tax rate before they would be under the current deferral system.

The wrongheaded thinking that led to this proposal holds that as long as businesses pay the U.S. tax rate on all their income, foreign and domestic, they have less reason to locate jobs overseas. However, this is just another form of protectionism, because it purports to protect U.S. jobs from the foreign competition.

President Obama is wrong when he assumes that a U.S. company expands overseas it does so at the expense of our economy. When a U.S. company moves into a foreign market to meet new demand, it creates jobs not only in the new market but in the United States, as well.

President Obama’s insourcing policies would make it more difficult for U.S. businesses to chase promising opportunities around the globe and slow job growth here at home in the process. Instead of wrapping protectionist policies in the tax code, the President should propose to reform the entire tax code to make it more competitive internationally. That would mean a lower rate for all businesses and taxing them only on the income they earn here at home.

Got to keep the taxes down in order for our businesses to flourish.

Thank you so much for your time. I know how valuable it is. I also appreciate the fine family that you have and your committment as a father and a husband.
