“Tip Tuesday” Advice to Gene Simmons

Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed

John McArthur

The Truth About Divorce, #2 (Mark 10:1-12)

On the show Gene Simmons has been arguing the point that he admits that he is selfish, but he still feels he has the right to be selfish. In the conclusion of the final episode of the year on July 24th he drops to his knees and proposes marriage to Shannon. However, before doing that he apologizes for the selfishness that he so long thought he deserved to have. As we have learned through the episodes this means that he has had numerous affairs through the years while on tour with his band KISS.

He may have thought these other ladies had positive things to offer him but the Bible makes it clear that we are to be committed to our one spouse.

Brandon Barnard in his message on sexual purity at Fellowship Bible Church on July 24, 2011 makes much of this issue. He points out THE PATHWAY OF IMPURITY IS PROMISING BUT DECEIVING. Then he read these scriptures below:

Proverbs 5:4

English Standard Version (ESV)

4but in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
    sharp as a two-edged sword.

Proverbs 7:18-20

English Standard Version (ESV)

18Come, let us take our fill of love till morning;
   let us delight ourselves with love.
19For my husband is not at home;
   he has gone on a long journey;
20he took a bag of money with him;
   at full moon he will come home.”

Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Shannon Tweed, 54 yrs old, has been with Gene Simmons 27 years and raised two children with him.

The series I have been doing on “Advice to Gene Simmons” that I am starting what I am calling “Tip Tuesday.” For the next few months we will be looking at the Simmons family.

The Sacrificing Husband (John MacArthur)

Uploaded by on Sep 8, 2010

http://www.gty.org/Blog …The world tells husbands, “Don’t let anyone tell you what to do. Be a macho man. Grab the gusto. Live for the moment.” The Bible’s message to husbands is exactly the opposite—”Crucify yourself.” Here’s how Paul put it in Ephesians 5:25, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for her.” That raises a question: Even a great Christian husband, on his best day, can’t match Christ’s loving sacrifice for the church. What does Paul expect? John MacArthur answers…

In his therapy session with Dr. Ann Wexler, Gene continued to make the point that his behavior is defensible because his meeting was, at the end of the day, something that would result in more money in the bank.

Dr. Wexler saw it differently.

“I think that lots of times when you do things when you’re not considering her or other people, you use making money as an excuse. As a defense.  It’s like, if you’re making money then a lot of your behavior is excused.

And I don’t think making money excuses a lot of your behavior.”

“You don’t?” asks Gene in disbelief.

What is going on here with Gene Simmons is very clear. He goes on tours and is guilty of having affairs and he justifies it because he is keeping up the hard rock image that he has always had. This brings in money and that is why he keeps pointing that out and trying to say that by bringing in the money he is showing his love toward his family. However, the truth is that he is using as an excuse to have affairs.

 Now it seems his whole world is caving in on him because his wife has left him and his kids have condemned him for not doing the right thing.

On these tours he is putting himself in a position that makes it easy for him to fall morally. That should be avoided at all costs. My former pastor Adrian Rogers used to have a sign on his desk which said, “If you don’t want to fall then don’t walk in slippery places.

Brandon Barnard, who is a teaching pastor at Fellowship Bible Church here in Little Rock in his message on July 24, 2011 made the point that we should WORK TO ELIMINATE EXPOSURE TO SEXUAL PRESSURES AND INCREASINGLY EMBRACE THE PROMISES OF GOD.

Then Brandon read through the following scriptures.

Philippians 4:8-9

English Standard Version (ESV)

 8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Matthew 5:27-30

English Standard Version (ESV)

 27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.

Job 31:1

Amplified Bible (AMP)

Job 31

 1I DICTATED a covenant (an agreement) to my eyes; how then could I look [lustfully] upon a girl?

Psalm 101:3

English Standard Version (ESV)

3I will not set before my eyes
   anything that is worthless.
I hate the work of those who fall away;
   it shall not cling to me.

Matthew 5:8

English Standard Version (ESV)

 8“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Romans 8:6

English Standard Version (ESV)

6For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

In the sermon at Fellowship Bible Church at July 24, 2011, teaching pastor Brandon Barnard made a great point about the two choices that you have. You can walk down the pathway of purity or impurity. The pathway of impurity is both persuasive and inviting.

Proverbs 5:3

English Standard Version (ESV)

3For the lips of a forbidden[a] woman drip honey,
   and her speech[b] is smoother than oil,

Proverbs 6:24

English Standard Version (ESV)

24to preserve you from the evil woman,[a]
   from the smooth tongue of the adulteress.[b]

Proverbs 7:10-20

English Standard Version (ESV)

  10And behold, the woman meets him,

    dressed as a prostitute, wily of heart.[a]
11She is loud and wayward;
    her feet do not stay at home;
12now in the street, now in the market,
   and at every corner she lies in wait.
13She seizes him and kisses him,
   and with bold face she says to him,
14“I had to offer sacrifices,[b]
   and today I have paid my vows;
15so now I have come out to meet you,
   to seek you eagerly, and I have found you.
16I have spread my couch with coverings,
   colored linens from Egyptian linen;
17I have perfumed my bed with myrrh,
   aloes, and cinnamon.
18Come, let us take our fill of love till morning;
   let us delight ourselves with love.
19For my husband is not at home;
   he has gone on a long journey;
20he took a bag of money with him;
   at full moon he will come home.”

After his marriage to Shannon will he be faithful? Is Gene Simmons going to continue to have affairs with other women that are evil? However, the Bible calls her an “evil woman.” What kind of future will have with an evil woman that is not your the wife of your youth?  Later in chapter 7 Solomon says, “All at once he follows her,    as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast[c 23till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare;    he does not know that it will cost him his life.27Her house is the way to Sheol,    going down to the chambers of death. ”

Gene Simmons held up marrying because of a lack of commitment

I have been closely following the Simmons saga for several years now. In the story below Gene Simmons says that he does not know why he waited so long to get married. The real reason is that he did not want to be committed to Shannon which would mean forsaking all others.  Here is an update followed by links to some of my past posts:

Posted Wed Oct 19, 2011 8:51am PDT by Joseph Brannigan Lynch

After 28 years, two adult children and plenty of drama together, Kiss frontman Gene Simmons wed former Playmate Shannon Tweed in a ceremony broadcast on last night’s “Gene Simmons Family Jewels.” How did the wild rocker feel about finding himself tied down for the first time in his life? “No idea what I’d been scared about all this time,” Simmons mused while talking to his 19-year-old daughter Sophie. “[It was] this stubborn guy thing… it was really stupid.” Smiling and nodding, his daughter simply said, “Yup.”

Simmons’ realization that the woman he’s spent 28 years with is, in fact, “The One” (i.e., life partner, not to be confused with Keanu Reeves’ character in “The Matrix”) was reflected in the no-nonsense, self-skewering wedding vows he wrote. “I always thought I was strong. You made me realize how arrogant, selfish and weak I was,” he admitted. “I’ve never said ‘I love you’ to anybody, but I love you, Shannon Tweed. With all my heart, for the rest of my life.”

Simmons’ 21-year-old son Nick was the best man and longtime pal and bandmate Paul Stanley pulled double duty, toasting Simmons as a groomsman and also rocking the wedding reception on guitar from the confines of his dapper tux (sadly, he left his “Starchild” makeup at home). Yes, Kiss (such as it is, since Ace Frehley and Peter Criss have long since been replaced by new members) actually played its lead singer’s wedding reception for a spell. Simmons took the stage at his own wedding to musically remind everyone that getting married won’t get in the way of his perennial desire to “Rock and Roll All Nite.”

Apparently, though, rocking all night has never meant consuming alcohol for Gene. Although his now-wife Shannon was intent on getting him drunk for the first time in his life, Simmons could barely stomach a small bit of champagne. During the cake-and-champagne toast, Simmons spit back his first sip of bubbly, later describing it as “bitter mouthwash” and asking “What is the matter” with people who enjoy an occasional drink.

Oct 1 date for Gene Simmons to get married

I thought this day would never arrive.

Shannon Tweed and Gene Simmons are getting married

Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed have a date to get married — finally. The KISS singer and the former Playmate have been together for 28 years and have two children.

Invitations to the Oct. 1 wedding, sent out under the kids’ names, contain art by Nick, 22, and a nontraditional message from Sophie, 18: “After 28 years of loose strings, our parents have finally decided to tie the knot.”

“Our mother will share our horrendous hyphenate of a last name and our father’s life … well, it doesn’t change that much.”

The invite isn’t all rock-star bravado, however. Teasing to the formation of “Team Tweed-Simmons,” it continues: “We will be united as a family in title and spirit forever.”

Simmons is 62 and still touring with Paul Stanley and the current incarnation of KISS; Tweed is 54.

Simmons’ proposal in Belize was naturally captured by reality-TV cameras for A&E’s show “Gene Simmons: Family Jewels,” which rolls its seventh season starting Oct. 4.

So much for Simmons’ “happily unmarried” lifestyle. Makes it look like Poison frontman Bret Michaels, after 16 years and two kids, practically rushed into things with Kristi Gibson, no?
