Evolution debating with Ark Times Bloggers Part 5 “SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINES ESTABLISHED BY CREATIONIST SCIENTISTS”

The Long War against God-Henry Morris, part 5 of 6

_______________

I have debated with Ark Times Bloggers many times in the past on many different subjects. Here are some of the subjects: communism, morality, origin of evil, and the Tea Party. I have always loved to post about evolution and I have had a chance in the past to correspond with scientists such as Carl Sagan and George Wald and also had the opportunity to write reviews of science related books that were published.

Recently I got into the subject of evolution on the Ark Times Blogand the subject came up on the Ark Times Blog. I go by the username “Saline Republican”:

The person using the username Olddoc asserted on March 18, 2013:

Plainjim, You have a good point (though actually I respect Ben Stein’s request for tolerance) but I have to speak up because there REALLY are people who don’t believe in evolution and 99.9999999% of them live in the US and almost uniformly get most of their science from those academic academies called “church”.

Almost no one else in the ENTIRE WORLD, not even in the Vatican, rallies to oppose evolution.

So prevalent is that attitude that there is a prominent private school in WLR, that simply goes from chapter 5 to 7 to avoid even mentioning evolution, selection, Darwin, etc.

The wonderful thing about science is that takes into account all the fraud, misinterpretation, wild ass guesses, math errors and weights them and refines the theory as the facts are discovered.

R acts like those changes prove the flaws but in reality they are really the beauty of science. Form a theory, observe or test the data, refine the theory, test some more.

Gravity – we’ve know a lot of the theory, but when someone finds out exactly how Earth is able to tug on the Moon, we modify what we theorize. It may be a small or a radical change, but it doesn’t threaten to make Newton “wrong”

I replied on March 18, 2013:

Olddoc, I am glad you mentioned Isaac Newton. Dr. Larry Vardiman noted:

Isaac Newton is recognized today by almost all scientists to have been one of the greatest, if not the greatest, scientist who ever lived. His breadth of knowledge, his ability to analyze and synthesize the physical world, his development and use of the calculus, his formulation of the three laws of motion, and the expression of the law of gravitation have been unequaled by any other scientist before or since. Yet, it is not widely known that Newton was also a Christian and a Bible scholar. He studied the Bible diligently and wrote commentaries on portions of scripture, such as his monograph on the book of Daniel. He clearly believed that God is the Creator and sustainer of our universe. Misunderstanding the source of Newton’s creativity, some critics have suggested that Newton would have been more productive if he had not wasted so much time studying and writing about the Bible.

___________

Dr.Herny Morris observed:
One of the self-serving arguments of modern evolutionists is their rather arrogant claim that creationist scientists are not real scientists. No matter that a large number of creationists have earned authentic Ph.D. degrees in science, hold responsible scientific positions and have published numerous scientific articles and books—if they are creationists, they are not true scientists! In a Letter-to-the-Editor, Steven Schafersman, of Rice University’s Department of Geology, says, for example: “I dispute Henry Morris’s claim that thousands of scientists are creationists. No scientist today questions the past and present occurrence of evolution in the organic world. Those ‘thousands of creationists’ with legitimate post-graduate degrees and other appropriate credentials are not scientists, precisely because they have abandoned the scientific method and the scientific attitude, criteria far more crucial to the definition of scientist than the location or duration of one’s training or the identity of one’s employer” (Geotimes, August 1981, P. 11).

Thus modern creationists are conveniently excluded as scientists merely by definition! Science does not mean “knowledge” or “truth,” or “facts,” as we used to think, but “naturalism” or “materialism,” according to this new definition. The very possibility of a Creator is prohibited by majority vote of the scientific fraternity, and one who still wishes to believe in God must forfeit his membership.

Well, no matter. At least we creationist scientists can take comfort in the fact that many of the greatest scientists of the past were creationists and for that matter, were also Bible-believing Christians, men who believed in the inspiration and authority of the Bible, as well as in the deity and saving work of Jesus Christ. They believed that God had supernaturally created all things, each with its own complex structure for its own unique purpose. They believed that, as scientists, they were “thinking God’s thoughts after Him,” learning to understand and control the laws and processes of nature for God’s glory and man’s good. They believed and practiced science in exactly the same way that modern creationist scientists do.

And somehow this attitude did not hinder them in their commitment to the “scientific method.” In fact one of them, Sir Francis Bacon, is credited with formulating and establishing the scientific method! They seem also to have been able to maintain a proper “scientific attitude,” for it was these men (Newton, Pasteur, Linnaeus, Faraday, Pascal, Lord Kelvin, Maxwell, Kepler, etc.) whose researches and analyses led to the very laws and concepts of science which brought about our modern scientific age. The mechanistic scientists of the present are dwarfed in comparison to these intellectual giants of the past. Even the achievements of an Einstein (not to mention Darwin!) are trivial in comparison. The real breakthroughs, the new fields, the most beneficial discoveries of science were certainly not delayed (in fact probably were hastened) by the creationist motivations of these great founders of modern science.

“Sanctity of Life Saturday” Taking on Ark Times Bloggers on various issues Part B “Gendercide” (Francis Schaeffer Quotes Part 2 includes the film ABORTION OF THE HUMAN RACE) (editorial cartoon)

I have gone back and forth and back and forth with many liberals on the Arkansas Times Blog on many issues such as abortion, human rights, welfare, poverty, gun control  and issues dealing with popular culture. Here is another exchange I had with them a while back. My username at the Ark Times Blog is Saline Republican.

On 2-19-13 the liberal blogger “DeathbyInches asserted on the Ark Times Blog,

Used to when I’d see David Sanders on my TV it would usually cause my bowels to move right after that.

And would a young girl be looking for an oil change if she was sitting in an abortion clinic? I’ll have to ask the many women I know if when they were younger and went to LR or Fayetteville for an abortion…did they find the doctor on his knees begging them to go for it because his babies needed new shoes.

When, unless the mother isn’t able or the fetus has a major defect…..what other times does a doctor look at a woman and “advise” she better ditch that fetus before the sun goes down….little Missy! I smell a cooked up story….sniff sniff….yep…cooked up, sure smells like it.

On 2-19-13 I responded on the Ark Times Blog,

DBI,you are wrong about young pregnant girls not being encouraged to have abortions for small things. Gendercide is actually happening a lot today. DO YOU FAVOR GENDERCIDE ? Here is a video of this happening in Texas. http://thedailyhatch.org/2012/06/11/why-wo…

Over 100 millions girls are missing today. These girls were victims of gendercide. The war on baby girls begins in the womb. Here is an article below about the case in Texas.

AUSTIN, May 29 — Today, Live Action released a new undercover video showing a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Austin, TX encouraging a woman to obtain a late-term abortion because she was purportedly carrying a girl and wanted to have a boy. The video is first in a new series titled “Gendercide: Sex-Selection in America,” exposing the practice of sex-selective abortion in the United States and how Planned Parenthood and the rest of the abortion industry facilitate the selective elimination of baby girls in the womb.

“I see that you’re saying that you want to terminate if it’s a girl, so are you just wanting to continue the pregnancy in the meantime?” a counselor named “Rebecca” offers the woman, who is purportedly still in her first trimester and cannot be certain about the gender. “The abortion covers you up until 23 weeks,” explains Rebecca, “and usually at 5 months is usually (sic) when they detect, you know, whether or not it’s a boy or a girl.” Doctors agree that the later in term a doctor performs an abortion, the greater the risk of complications.

The Planned Parenthood staffer suggests that the woman get on Medicaid in order to pay for an ultrasound to determine the gender of her baby, even though she plans to use the knowledge for an elective abortion. She also tells the woman to “just continue and try again” for the desired gender after aborting a girl, and adds, “Good luck, and I hope that you do get your boy.”

“The search-and-destroy targeting of baby girls through prenatal testing and abortion is a pandemic that is spreading across the globe,” notes Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action. “Research proves that sex-selective abortion has now come to America. The abortion industry, led by Planned Parenthood, is a willing participant.”

Six studies in the past four years indicate that there are thousands of “missing girls” in the U.S., many from sex-selective abortion. The U.K., India, Australia, and other countries ban sex-selective abortion, but the U.S., save for three states, does not. On Wednesday, Congress will debate the Prenatal Non-Discrimination Act (PRENDA), which would ban sex-selective abortions nationally.

“Planned Parenthood and their ruthless abortion-first mentality is the real ‘war on women’,” says Rose. “Sex-selective abortion is gender discrimination with lethal consequences for little girls.”

The complete, unedited video and transcript can be viewed at http://www.ProtectOurGirls.com, a hub of research and information on sex-selective abortions.

Live Action is a youth led movement dedicated to building a culture of life and ending the human rights abuse of abortion. They use new media to educate the public about the humanity of the unborn and investigative journalism to expose threats against the vulnerable and defenseless.

Thanks ever so much Saline, but a quick Google tells me it ain’t wise to put any stock in this dailyhatch.org stuff.

In the film series “WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE HUMAN RACE?” the arguments are presented  against abortion (Episode 1),  infanticide (Episode 2),   euthenasia (Episode 3), and then there is a discussion of the Christian versus Humanist worldview concerning the issue of “the basis for human dignity” in Episode 4 and then in the last episode a close look at the truth claims of the Bible.

Francis Schaeffer and his wife Edith pictured below.

Francis Schaeffer: “Whatever Happened to the Human Race” (Episode 1) ABORTION OF THE HUMAN RACE

Published on Oct 6, 2012 by

Francis Schaeffer saw the issues that our society would be facing in the future because of humanism and he was right on just about everything. Take a look at some of his quotes below: (By the way one of my favorite quotes is the first one listed below.)

“We must realize that the Reformation world view leads in the direction of government freedom. But the humanist world view with inevitable certainty leads in the direction of statism. This is so because humanists, having no god, must put something at the center, and it is inevitably society, government, or the state.”
Francis A. Schaeffer
“The Christian in the one whose imagination should fly beyond the stars.”
Francis A. Schaeffer, Art & the Bible
“Biblical orthodoxy without compassion is surely the ugliest thing in the world.”
Francis A. Schaeffer
“The Bible is clear here: I am to love my neighbor as myself, in the manner needed, in a practical way, in the midst of the fallen world, at my particular point of history. This is why I am not a pacifist. Pacifism in this poor world in which we live — this lost world — means that we desert the people who need our greatest help.”
Francis A. Schaeffer
“To fail to exhibit that we take truth seriously at those points where there is a cost in our doing so, is to push the next generation in the relative, dialectical millstream that surrounds us. ”
Francis A. Schaeffer
“A Christian should use these arts to the glory of God, not just as tracts, mind you, but as things of beauty to the praise of God. An art work can be a doxology in itself.”
Francis A. Schaeffer, Art & the Bible
“The tree in the field is to be treated with respect. It is not to be romanticized as the old lady romanticizes her cat (that is, she reads human reactions into it). . . . But while we should not romanticize the tree, we must realize that God made it and it deserves respect because he made it as a tree. Christians who do not believe in the complete evolutionary scale have reason to respect nature as the total evolutionist never can, because we believe that God made these things specifically in their own areas. So if we are going to argue against evolutionists intellectually, we should show the results of our beliefs in our attitudes. The Christian is a man who has a reason for dealing with each created thing on a high level of respect.”
Francis A. Schaeffer, Pollution & the Death of Man
“The basic problem of the Christians in this country in the last eighty years or so, in regard to society and in regard to government, is that they have seen things in bits and pieces instead of totals.”
Francis A. Schaeffer, A Christian Manifesto
“A compassionate open home is part of Christian responsibility, and should be practiced up to the level of capacity.”
Francis A. Schaeffer
“The ancients were afraid that if they went to the end of the earth they would fall off and be consumed by dragons. But once we understand that Christianity is true to what is there, true to the ultimate environment – the infinite, personal God who is really there – then our minds are freed. We can pursue any question and can be sure that we will not fall off the end of the earth.”
Francis A. Schaeffer, Art & the Bible
“How should an artist begin to do his work as an artist? I would insist that he begin his work as an artist by setting out to make a work of art.”
Francis A. Schaeffer, Art & the Bible
“In face of this modern nihilism, Christians are often lacking in courage. We tend to give the impression that we will hold on to the outward forms whatever happens, even if God really is not there. But the opposite ought to be true of us, so that people can see that we demand the truth of what is there and that we are not dealing merely with platitudes. In other words, it should be understood that we take this question of truth and personality so seriously that if God were not there we would be among the first of those who had the courage to step out of the queue.”
Francis A. Schaeffer
“‎People have presuppositions… By ‘presuppositions’ we mean the basic way that an individual looks at life- his worldview. The grid through which he sees the world. Presuppositions rest upon that which a person considers to be the truth of what exists. A person’s presuppositions provide the basis for their values- and therefore the basis for their decisions.”
Francis A. Schaeffer
“Most people catch their presuppositions from their family and surrounding society, the way that a child catches the measles. But people with understanding realize that their presuppositions should be *chosen* after a careful consideration of which worldview is true.”

Francis Schaeffer: “Whatever Happened to the Human Race” (Episode 1) ABORTION OF THE HUMAN RACE

It is not possible to know where the pro-life evangelicals are coming from unless you look at the work of the person who inspired them the most. That person was Francis Schaeffer.  I do care about economic issues but the pro-life issue is the most important to me. Several years ago Adrian Rogers (past president of [...]

Evolution debating with Ark Times Bloggers Part 4 “Neaderthal, Australopithicus and Piltdown man”

The Long War against God-Henry Morris, part 4 of 6

_______________

I have debated with Ark Times Bloggers many times in the past on many different subjects. Here are some of the subjects: communism, morality, origin of evil, and the Tea Party. I have always loved to post about evolution and I have had a chance in the past to correspond with scientists such as Carl Sagan and George Wald and also had the opportunity to write reviews of science related books that were published.

Recently I got into the subject of evolution on the Ark Times Blogand the subject came up on the Ark Times Blog. I go by the username “Saline Republican”:

The person using the username “Olddoc” asserted on March 18, 2013:

Saline,

Do you really think ALL the fossiles have been discovered? Heck I’m amazed they have found what they have. Man has walked on this Earth for either 10,000 years (or a whole lot more) I’m thinking a lot of that was on rainy days. If fossiles were that danged common our museums would need 20 floors just to store the hominid fossible!

What would you accept as an intermediate form? Neaderthal, Cro-Magnon, Australopithicus? Are they intermediate between some earlier form of human and you?

Perhaps you and Dr. R attended LSU, “where men go in dumb, come out dumb too” As you apply the Second law, a tree couldn’t grow, ice couldn’t form, a fertilized egg couldn’t become a human. All are examples of order from disorder. All require constant input of energy. Learn where the Law applies before you apply it.

As for A. Flew, apparently he never read Heinlein or he would have never tried to teach the pig to sing.

I replied on March 18, 2103:

Are you kidding olddoc about using Australopithicus as good evidence for evolution?

Dr. John Morris wrote:

It’s hard to keep them straight. First there was the discovery in Africa by Raymond Dart in 1925. of an infant skull. Entitled Australopithicus, this creature was recognized to be fully ape-like, but with a few characteristics hinting of human, thus an ape on the line to humans.

Over the years similar bones and bone fragments have been found (never has a complete skeleton been found) each individual slightly different but lumped into the genus Australopithicus, leading to the species names africanus, afarensis (including the famous “Lucy”), ramidus, and most recently ananemsis. A look at the actual data which led to the recent designation reveals the lengths to which men will go to justify their belief in our evolution from the animals.

Ananemsis has been dated as around 4 million years old by evolutionists. Leaving aside the validity of this date, we note that this age places ananemsis as older than the well-known “Lucy,” a creature essentially identical to modern chimps, being totally chimp from the neck up. On her 3′ 6″ frame, only the controversial knee and hip bones give any clue of more erect posture than modem chimps. This species, as is now recognized, had long curved fingers and toes and an opposing big toe. With such a grasping foot, it was obviously tree-dwelling, only occasionally walking on the ground, possibly with a semi-erect posture).

The new ananemsis discovery consists of 2 groupings of bone fragments, together totaling 21. The more recent discovery of 12 tooth and jaw fragments near Lake Turkana in Africa have been lumped with 9 other fragments of teeth and limb bones found in 1965 and later some 100 miles away, near Kanapoi.

The Kanapoi fragments include one end of an arm bone, and the two end pieces of a shin bone, with the rest being tooth and jaw fragments. The arm bone was deemed remarkably “human-like” when discovered 30 years ago, strikingly close” to human in appearance, indistinguishable from modern homo sapiens.”

But herein lies the problem. How could fully human limb bones be found in 4 million year-old strata? All evolutionists “know” that anatomically-modern humans didn’t evolve-until the last one million years or so. How could they be before “Lucy,” their ancestor? Thus the human-like arm bone was shelved. Only the recent discovery of the very human-like shin bone brought the arm to light once again, and forced evolutionists to deal with them both.

In contrast, the recently found Kanapoi jaw and tooth fragments are grossly apelike. Discoverer Dr. Meave Leakey (wife of Richard Leakey) exults that while the chin and teeth are more ape-like than “Lucy”, yet they hint at progressing toward humans, thus earlier on the human family tree. (Doesn’t anyone remember anymore that Lucy is scarcely different, from a chimp?). So, if this creature is more ape-like than Lucy, there is no justification for putting it in the human lineage at all).

The real clincher for evolution lies in the lumping of the recently found and quite ape-like 12 tooth and dental fragments from Lake Turkana in with the human-like Kanapoi limb bones, even though separated by 100 miles. Even at Kanapoi, the tooth and jaw fragments are found in a layer 55′ lower stratisgraphically than the crucial limb bones. Already evolutionists are beginning to call the single-species interpretation into question. I predict that this claim will be discarded, even by evolutionists.

Meanwhile, Leakey’s claims have received extensive coverage in the press. That may be what this is all about.

__________

Olddoc, Neanderthals have been upgraded to fully human status even by evolutionists. Darwin liked talking about them as not being fully human but that was disproven long ago.
_____________
You think there were many 6’0″ Neanderthals?
Olddoc, scientific evidence changes over time. Did you know that at the time of the Scopes Trial Judge Raulston did allow the defense to read some of the expert testimony into the record while the jury was excused. Part of that testimony read into the record included the two popular biological arguments for evolution embryonic recapitulation and vestigial structures. Medical science has since disproved both of these views. Furthermore, the evolution of the horse was called conclusive and the Piltdown fossils were said to be supporting evidence for evolution. Needless to say, these two pieces of evolution are no longer presented by evolutionists. In fact, evidence surfaced recently that indicates who the Piltdown hoaxer was (Henry Gee, Box of Bones `Clinches’ Identity of Piltdown Paleontology Hoaxer, Nature, 381 [1996]: 261-2). If we were having this discussion in 1925 then I am sure you would have mentioned “The Piltdown man” as your best evidence.By the way my good friend has a 95 yr old uncle who attended the scopes trial everyday with his father. He may be the last living witness to see that trial.http://thedailyhatch.org/2013/03/18/review…

Evolution debating with Ark Times Bloggers Part 3 “Evolution and spontaneous generation”

The Long War against God-Henry Morris, part 3 of 6

Uploaded by on Aug 30, 2010

I have debated with Ark Times Bloggers many times in the past on many different subjects. Here are some of the subjects: communism, morality, origin of evil, and the Tea Party. I have always loved to post about evolution and I have had a chance in the past to correspond with scientists such as Carl Sagan and George Wald and also had the opportunity to write reviews of science related books that were published.

Recently I got into the subject of evolution on the Ark Times Blogand the subject came up on the Ark Times Blog. I go by the username “Saline Republican”:

On March 18, 2013 the  person using the username Olddoc asserted:

Saline, Who cares? “Steven Jay Gould not being a creationist but what he did was undercut traditional Darwinism. Take a look at this big battle that he started. “

What kind of idiot would think that Darwin was able to make a quantum leap, describing an entirely new concept and didn’t leave major points to be studied, refined and modified……that’s what a theory is. Thanks to Gould for improving the theory.

Think about when Darwin wrote. Perhaps closer to the age of spontaneous generation (rats from rags, maggots from porridge, etc) than the neat world of genomics.

How incredible that a man who had NO CLUE how traits might be passed from one animal to its offspring got so much correct!

I replied on March 18, 2013:

Olddoc, you have to explain the fossil record if you are Darwin because he believed there were missing links out there and he was wrong!!! That is where Gould comes in and shows the Emperor has no clothes on.

Ozarkrazo what I said was this, “Do you ever get on a plane without meeting and questioning the ability of the pilot? You have faith in that airline because of evidence you have from the past concerning their reliability.” In other words you have to do things on faith and you should base your faith on evidence that leads you to believe that Southwest Airlines is dependable and then you book a flight with them. If you say that you firmly believe that the world evolved by chance through time then where is your evidence in the fossil record that supports Darwinism? How does evolution explain the origin of life from nonlife? Doesn’t the second law of thermodynamics contradict evolution? You are an educated person and you can read facts for yourself. You don’t have to just take evolutionists word for it. Did you know that many agnostics have rejected evolution. Ayn Rand thought it was stupid.

Adrian Rogers observed: 1. The fossil record. Not only is the so-called missing link still missing, all of the transitional life forms so crucial to evolutionary theory are missing from the fossil record. There are thousands of missing links, not one! 2. The second law of thermodynamics. This law states that energy is winding down and that matter left to itself tends toward chaos and randomness, not greater organization and complexity. Evolution demands exactly the opposite process, which is observed nowhere in nature. 3. The origin of life. Evolution offers no answers to the origin of life. It simply pushes the question farther back in time, back to some primordial event in space or an act of spontaneous generation in which life simply sprang from nothing.

Dr. George Wald (Nobel Prize winner) of Harvard : “When it comes to the origin of life, we have only two possibilities as to how life arose. One is spontaneous generation arising to evolution; the other is a supernatural creative act of God. There is no third possibility…Spontaneous generation was scientifically disproved one hundred years ago by Louis Pasteur, Spellanzani, Reddy and others. That leads us scientifically to only one possible conclusion — that life arose as a supernatural creative act of God…I will not accept that philosophically because I do not want to believe in God. Therefore, I choose to believe in that which I know is scientifically impossible, spontaneous generation arising to evolution.” – Scientific American, August, 1954.

I actually had the chance to correspond with George Wald twice before his death. He wrote me two letters and in the first one he suggested that he was just using hyperbole when he made the assertion that is quoted by Dr. Rogers. He also suggested the religion of Buddhism although he said he was not a Buddhist himself, but he thought that would be closest to the truth which he thought was atheism.

During the 1990′s I actually made it a practice to write famous atheists and scientists that were mentioned by Adrian Rogers and Francis Schaeffer and challenge them with the evidence for the Bible’s historicity and the claims of the gospel. Usually I would send them a cassette tape of Adrian Rogers’ messages “6 reasons I know the Bible is True,” “The Final Judgement,” “Who is Jesus?” and the message by Bill Elliff, “How to get a pure heart.” I would also send them printed material from the works of Francis Schaeffer and a personal apologetic letter from me addressing some of the issues in their work.

The famous atheist Antony Flew was actually took the time to listen to several of these messages and he wrote me back in the mid 1990′s several times.

“Sanctity of Life Saturday”Taking on Ark Times Bloggers on various issues Part A “The Pro-life Issue” (Francis Schaeffer Quotes Part 1 includes the film SLAUGHTER OF THE INNOCENTS) (editorial cartoon)

On 2-19-13 I asserted on the Ark Times Blog, “Abortion should be illegal.”

On 2-19-13 “the Outlier” responded on the Ark Times Blog :

Since Saline can never walk in a pregnant woman’s shoes (and neither can any of these portly politicians), maybe he should just keep his nose and vaginal probes out of their business. Unless the fetus is his, he should never have a say.

On 2-19-13 “the HardHeadWoman” asserted on the Ark Times Blog :

Saline appears to have a very bad case of ‘anti-choice Tourettes’.
Just can’t help himself. He can’t go 5 minutes without blurting out some ridiculous abortion talking point.

On 2-19-13 “Norma Bates” asked on the Ark Times Blog :

I’ll bite. WHY, exactly, should abortion be illegal, Saline? This is the place to share your reasoning.

On 2-19-13 I responded to what Norma had asked on the Ark Times Blog :

Norma the answer is that genetics tells us that the unborn baby has the same genetic code that a full grown human has. Here is all the quotes from scientists including my atheist friend Dr Kevin Henke. http://thedailyhatch.org/2011/06/23/ark-ti…

I was also moved by David Sanders interview with the abortionist Dr William F Harrison concerning advice he gave to abort about 25 years ago to a 16 yr old pregnant girl. The you girl did not abort and her daughter is now graduating with a masters because her mother rejected Dr Harrison’s advice. Dr Harrison admitted that sent a cold chill down his spine when thinks of his advice.

Dr. C. Everett Koop said that everyone that advocates abortion has the benefit of already being born. What if you were to ask that lady today if her mother should have taken Dr Harrison’s advice?

_________

Actually I used to write  a lot of letters to the editor in the 1990′s about pro-life issues and I found that a Mr. William F. Harrison from Fayetteville was constantly taking the other side and being critical of my letters with his letters to the editor. I found out many years later that he ran the biggest abortion clinic in the state of Arkansas.

I truly believe that many of the problems we have today in the USA are due to the advancement of humanism in the last few decades in our society. Ronald Reagan appointed the evangelical Dr. C. Everett Koop to the position of Surgeon General in his administration. He partnered with Dr. Francis Schaeffer in making the video below. It is very valuable information for Christians to have.  Actually I have included a video below that includes comments from him on this subject.

Francis Schaeffer: “Whatever Happened to the Human Race?” (Episode 2) SLAUGHTER OF THE INNOCENTS

___________

What happens to a society that has no basis for values? Francis Schaeffer knew where that would lead:

“Humanism, man beginning only from himself, had destroyed the old basis of values, and could find no way to generate with certainty any new values. In the resulting vacuum the impoverished values of personal peace and affluence had come to stand supreme.”

Francis Schaeffer Quotes

Posted by Matt on March 6, 2012

Francis Schaeffer would have celebrated his 100th birthday in January. I’m obviously a couple months late with this, but here are a few quotes in remembrance of a life well lived.

Francis Schaeffer

“Think of this great flaming phrase: “certain inalienable rights.” Who gives the rights? The state? Then they are not inalienable because the state can change them and take them away. Where do the rights come from? [Jefferson and others] understood that they were founding the country upon the concept that goes back into the Judeo-Christian thinking that there is Someone there who gave the inalienable rights.”

-

“In passing, we should note this curious mark of our own age: the only absolute allowed is the absolute insistence that there is no absolute.”

-

“Humanism, man beginning only from himself, had destroyed the old basis of values, and could find no way to generate with certainty any new values. In the resulting vacuum the impoverished values of personal peace and affluence had come to stand supreme.”

-

Biblical orthodoxy without compassion is surely the ugliest thing in the world.”

-

“But if I live in a world of nonabsolutes and would fight social injustice on the mood of the moment, how can I establish what social justice is? What criterion do I have to distinguish between right and wrong so that I can know what I should be fighting? Is it not possible that I could in fact acquiesce in evil and stamp out good? The word love cannot tell me how to discern, for within the humanistic framework love can have no defined meaning.”

-

“There is no place for love in a totally closed cause and effect system.”

Here is a great pro-life cartoon:

Evolution debating with Ark Times Bloggers Part 2 “Gouldians versus Dawkinsians”

The Long War against God-Henry Morris, part 2 of 6

Uploaded by on Aug 30, 2010

_________

I have debated with Ark Times Bloggers many times in the past on many different subjects. Here are some of the subjects: communism, morality, origin of evil, and the Tea Party. I have always loved to post about evolution and I have had a chance in the past to correspond with scientists such as Carl Sagan and George Wald and also had the opportunity to write reviews of science related books that were published.

Recently I got into the subject of evolution on the Ark Times Blogand the subject came up on the Ark Times Blog. I go by the username “Saline Republican”:

I stated on March 18, 2013:

Archaeopteryx and the outlier are right about Steven Jay Gould not being a creationist but what he did was undercut traditional Darwinism. Take a look at this big battle that he started.

Henry Morris wrote in 1995:

A fascinating new book1 has recently been published in England with the intriguing title, The Darwin Wars. The author, Andrew Brown, though himself an atheistic evolutionist, in 1995 won the Templeton Prize as the best religious affairs correspondent in Europe.

The title of his book does not refer to the long warfare between evolutionists and creationists, as one might first suppose, but rather to the internecine battles between various groups of evolutionists against each other. Although they close ranks when doing battle with creationists, they wrangle bitterly among themselves.

The most publicized battle at present is between the neo-Darwinians and the punctuationists. Richard Dawkins (of Cambridge University in England) is the best-known protagonist for the neo-Darwinists and Stephen Jay Gould of Harvard University for the punctuationists.

These two parties need names, and I propose to call them Gouldians and Dawkinsians.2
Like the gingham dog and the calico cat, these two groups seem bent on eating each other up. The Gouldians argue vigorously that the fossil record proves that evolution did not occur slowly and gradually and progressively, as neo-Darwinianism requires. The Dawkinsians, on the other hand, insist vehemently that there is no possibility genetically that sudden evolution after long periods of “stasis” (i.e., no change) could ever happen at all, as the punctuationists allege. Both are right!

One prominent Gouldian makes the following flat assertion that paleontology proves stasis, followed by wide extinction events, followed by rapid evolution of new kinds.

I make the very strong claim that nothing much happens in biological evolutionary history until extinction claims what has come before.3
This scenario then postulates that rapid evolution suddenly generates a new complex of flora and fauna to fill the vacant ecological niches.

But there is no biological mechanism that can do such marvelous things. Dawkins had correctly pointed out the following fact:

Complexity cannot spring up in a single stroke of chance. . . . Gradualness is of the essence. . . . If you throw out gradualness, you throw out the very thing that makes evolution more plausible than creation.4
And so Gouldians and Dawkinsians are actually (although unintentionally) helping to prove creationism, one disproving gradualism, the other disproving punctuationism. The house of evolution is badly, and eventually fatally, divided.

Niles Eldredge, the partner of Gould in their notion of stasis and punctuated equilibrium, has acknowledged this internal warfare.

Geneticists and paleontologists are still very much at each other’s throats.5

The person using the username Elwood noted:

Just a quick note to help our uneducated Saline understand the idea of “theory.”
A theory is simply the best explanation for a collection of facts. Because it’s science and not religion-faith the theory is tested and should should contrary evidence arise through discovery or testing the theory is discarded. There’s nothing sacred about scientific theory whether it’s gravity, wavelengths or evolution.

The Outlier stated:

Saline, Religious faith is belief in something that cannot be confirmed by any of one’s senses.

Trusting an airline pilot is not having “faith” in him. It is knowing that the FAA has standards for both the mechanics of the airplane and the ability of the pilot. Faith has nothing to do with it. Trust and faith are not the same thing in this discussion.

Archaeopteryx asserted:

Saline, you’re a liar. You took that quote right out of context, as has been amply demonstrated in this very thread. And if you truly believe the things you’ve written about the fossil record, you’re an idiot, besides. Guess there’s no reason you can’t be both.

I responded:

Archaeopteryx you call me a liar and you say that I took the Gould quote out of context. Why don’t you read what I said and then you can apologize if you have any class at all.
Here is the source and here is what it said:

http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Stephen_Jay_G…

Because of his support for the theory of episodic evolution rather than gradual evolution Gould is a popular target for creationist quote-miners.[6][7] For example creationists pretend that Gould asserted that there is little or no evidence of evolutionary change in the fossil record with the following:

The fossil record with its abrupt transitions offers no support for gradual change…
— Stephen J. Gould, “The Return of Hopeful Monsters”, Natural History 86:22 (1977)

What he actually said, in context, was:

Many evolutionists view strict continuity between micro- and macroevolution as an essential ingredient of Darwinism and a necessary corollary of natural selection. Yet, as I argue in essay 17, Thomas Henry Huxley divided the two issues of natural selection and gradualism and warned Darwin that his strict and unwarranted adherence to gradualism might undermine his entire system. The fossil record with its abrupt transitions offers no support for gradual change, and the principle of natural selection does not require it — selection can operate rapidly. Yet the unnecessary link that Darwin forged became a central tenet of the synthetic theory…

_____________

Elwood it really does trouble you that Evolution is just a theory doesn’t it? Couldn’t be better you are right about “micro evolution” having plenty of evidence and I firmly believe that it is true. However, “macro evolution” has a whole fossil record of missing links that are still missing. THAT IS WHAT MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR STEVEN JAY GOULD TO MAKE SUCH A SPLASH!!!!

I watched the Nova show “Did Darwin get it wrong?” in Nov of 1981 and then I gave my evolutionist professors in college fits because they hated Steven Jay Gould and they did not like that program at all!!!!

Evolution debating with Ark Times Bloggers Part 1 “Steven Jay Gould and the fossil record”

I stated on the Arkansas Times Blog on 3-18-13:

Yesterday I heard a very good message from our pastor on Genesis 1 and he talked about the fact that evolutionists have “faith” just like we do in the church. The starting point in the universe has to be accepted by faith by both sides. It is hard to argue against that point. http://thedailyhatch.org/2013/03/18/carl-s…

Evolutionists are busy arguing with themselves because the fossil record does not support gradual change as Darwin misled us to believe. Actually it supports the creationist view that there was a sudden appearance of many animals.

Steven Jay Gould said, “Many evolutionists view strict continuity between micro- and macroevolution as an essential ingredient of Darwinism and a necessary corollary of natural selection. Yet the unnecessary link that Darwin forged became a central tenet of the synthetic theory.

The person using the username Zatharus responded:

When some make a habit of misquoting in order to bolster their arguments, the question of whether this is because of mental or ethical deficiencies becomes meaningful.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Fallacy of quoting out of context
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy_of_qu…

The practice of quoting out of context, sometimes referred to as “contextomy” or “quote mining”, is a logical fallacy and a type of false attribution in which a passage is removed from its surrounding matter in such a way as to distort its intended meaning.

Their [Creationists'] favorite sport is stringing together quotations, carefully and sometimes expertly taken out of context, to show that nothing is really established or agreed upon among evolutionists. Some of my colleagues and myself have been amused and amazed to read ourselves quoted in a way showing that we are really antievolutionists under the skin.

The Creationist redacted quote reads:
“The fossil record with its abrupt transitions offers no support for gradual change. All paleontologists know that the fossil record contains precious little in the way of intermediate forms; transitions between major groups are characteristically abrupt.” Stephen Jay Gould

The actual quote continues:
“… Gradualists usually extract themselves from this dilemma by invoking the extreme imperfection of the fossil record. Although I reject this argument (for reasons discussed in ["The Episodic Nature of Evolutionary Change"]), let us grant the traditional escape and ask a different question.”

Knowing that creationists are quoting him as if he were saying there were no transitional forms, Gould responded:
“Since we proposed punctuated equilibria to explain trends, it is infuriating to be quoted again and again by creationists — whether through design or stupidity, I do not know — as admitting that the fossil record includes no transitional forms. The punctuations occur at the level of species; directional trends (on the staircase model) are rife at the higher level of transitions within major groups.”

“Today the theory of evolution is about as much open to doubt as the theory that the earth goes round the sun.”
Richard Dawkins

I then replied:

Zatharus, I gave the whole quote and it is explained very well by Dr. Gould so I can not be accused of taking it out of context. I actually got it from a website that was critical of a creationist for only taking 8 words out of the quote and using it. Instead, I provided the whole quote. Outlier and Vanessa you need to learn from Tuna who admits that faith is true for the believer as the unbeliever. Do you ever get on a plane without meeting and questioning the ability of the pilot? You have faith in that airline because of evidence you have from the past concerning their reliability.

Paul Covert says that Genesis is just fiction. I have a lot of evidence that indicates to me that the Book of Genesis is reliable.

Dewayne Bryant notes: Archaeology demonstrates solid connections between the biblical record and ancient history, in contrast to Christopher Hitchens’ assertion that it is an implausible record.

Consider the following:

Critics often malign the patriarchs without just cause. They insist that camels were not domesticated during the patriarchal age, thus constituting an anachronism in the biblical text. Yet evidence of camel domestication appears as early as 2000 B.C. in several places in Mesopotamia, concurrent with Abraham—if not slightly preceding him (Kitchen, 2003, p. 339). Another point of confidence is the names of the patriarchs. While God selected Jacob’s name, they all highlight the Mesopotamian roots of Abraham since the names of Isaac, Jacob, Ishmael, and Joseph are all of Amorite origin (pp. 341-342). These names were at the height of their popularity when the patriarchs lived in the early second millennium and quickly fell into disuse in subsequent centuries.

A vital piece of evidence is the structure of covenants in the Bible. Covenants made in antiquity evolved over time, and each period has a distinct structure for the covenants made at various times and particular locations. Kenneth Kitchen has surveyed a wide range of covenants used from the third millennium through the first millennium B.C. (Kitchen, 2003, pp. 283-289). He found the Abrahamic covenant made in Genesis 15-17 fits securely in the early second millennium, while the covenants in Exodus, Deuteronomy, and Joshua 24 fit only in a late second millennium context. After the evidence is surveyed, it is apparent that much of the criticism of the Bible arises—not from intense scrutiny of the evidence—but from ignorance of it. The overwhelming weight of the archaeological and historical evidence firmly places the Bible in the sphere of reality rather than myth.

Taking on Ark Times Bloggers on various issues Part S “Who gave the unborn the inalienable right to life?” (includes video “Slaughter of the Innocents” and an editorial cartoon)

On 3-4-13 Elwood the liberal blogger on the Ark Times Blog asserted:

>>he looked at the 1973 ruling in some detail. He talked about the decline of absolutes in American law, and how this decision was completely arbitrary.<

Just to pull you out the rainbow cloud for brief moment of time
there have never been “absolutes” in American law. Once you experience the game of law you realize for every rule there’s an exception or an overrule. Slaves were absolutely property until they weren’t. Corporations were limited purpose organizations until they weren’t.

Absolutes are for belief systems like religion. In religions it doesn’t matter how absolute you want to be because it’s (1)made up and (2) strictly based upon faith, not knowledge.

I responded:

Elwood asserted, “Absolutes are for belief systems like religion. In religions it doesn’t matter how absolute you want to be because it’s (1)made up and (2) strictly based upon faith, not knowledge.”

Elwood says this belongs in religion but what did our Founding fathers mean by the phrase “certain inalienable rights?”

Francis Schaeffer noted, “Think of this great flaming phrase: “certain inalienable rights.” Who gives the rights? The state? Then they are not inalienable because the state can change them and take them away. Where do the rights come from? [Jefferson and others] understood that they were founding the country upon the concept that goes back into the Judeo-Christian thinking that there is Someone there who gave the inalienable rights.”

You have to have a lawgiver and the God of the Bible is the lawgiver that the Founding Fathers recognized.

Schaeffer notes where we are today, “Humanism, man beginning only from himself, had destroyed the old basis of values, and could find no way to generate with certainty any new values. In the resulting vacuum the impoverished values of personal peace and affluence had come to stand supreme.”

Elwood you can try as you hard as you can but you can’t answer my simple questions I posed about morality questions because you have no absolute basis of revealed truth to justify your morality decisions. Olphart was brave enough to answer the questions but made no attempt to give a reasonable and rational explanation for why murder is wrong.

Schaeffer sums up the secular humanist’s problem when he observed, “But if I live in a world of nonabsolutes and would fight social injustice on the mood of the moment, how can I establish what social justice is? What criterion do I have to distinguish between right and wrong so that I can know what I should be fighting? Is it not possible that I could in fact acquiesce in evil and stamp out good? The word love cannot tell me how to discern, for within the humanistic framework love can have no defined meaning.”

 ____________

I truly believe that many of the problems we have today in the USA are due to the advancement of humanism in the last few decades in our society. Ronald Reagan appointed the evangelical Dr. C. Everett Koop to the position of Surgeon General in his administration. He partnered with Dr. Francis Schaeffer in making the video below. It is very valuable information for Christians to have.  Actually I have included a video below that includes comments from him on this subject.

In the film series “WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE HUMAN RACE?” the arguments are presented  against abortion (Episode 1),  infanticide (Episode 2),   euthenasia (Episode 3), and then there is a discussion of the Christian versus Humanist worldview concerning the issue of “the basis for human dignity” in Episode 4 and then in the last episode a close look at the truth claims of the Bible

Much more could be said if we had time. There are other biblical arguments against abortion. There is mounting evidence that many women who choose abortion suffer severe long-term emotional and physical problems.

I want to conclude by suggesting some action points. Some of these are things that every Christian can and should do. Others are things that only some will be called to do. But at some level, all of us need to come to the defense of unborn children.

(1) We can pray about the situation. It is ultimately a spiritual battle (Eph. 6:10-12). Pray for pro-life judges to receive Senate confirmation, especially to the Supreme Court. Pray for the horrors of abortion to become obvious to our self-centered culture. Pray for Christians to get involved in the pro-life cause.

(2) We can vote for pro-life candidates. Don’t vote for pro-abortion candidates. You ask, “Are you a one-issue voter?” I grant that being pro-life does not qualify a person as a good political leader. But being pro-abortion should disqualify anyone from public office. For example, if a candidate said, “I believe that black people should not hold public office,” that one issue should disqualify the candidate from office. Why doesn’t favoring killing babies disqualify a candidate? The person who favors abortion is an immoral person!

(3) We can write our legislators and the newspaper to support the pro-life cause. Hold them accountable!

(4) We can support the pro-life cause with our money and time. Godly women are needed to counsel young women with problem pregnancies, so that they choose life for their babies. Godly families that are able should consider taking in such young women and helping them carry their babies to term. There are many ways to get involved.

(5) Our church should discipline any members who advocate abortion, perform abortions, or obtain abortions in disobedience to being counseled about God’s truth on the matter. It is a national tragedy that two of our former Presidents, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, both claimed to be Southern Baptists, but were pro-abortion. Their churches should have disciplined them publicly.

In conclusion, I want to speak to any who may already have had an abortion or who may have urged someone else to have an abortion. Perhaps you did it in ignorance, but now you realize that you committed a serious sin in God’s sight. The great news of God’s Word is that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” (1 Tim. 1:15). The apostle Paul, who persecuted the church and was responsible for the deaths of many innocent people, wrote that, and then claimed, “among whom I am foremost of all.” Paul found God’s forgiveness and mercy at the cross. No matter how great your guilt, if you will turn from your sin and trust Jesus Christ as the one who bore your sin on the cross, God will pardon all of your sin and credit the righteousness of Jesus to your account (Rom. 4:4-5).

Are the Republicans in Arkansas true Tea Party Ronald Reagan Republicans?

Ronald Reagan said, “We will never compromise our principles and standards.”

Are the Republicans in Arkansas true Tea Party Ronald Reagan Republicans?

According to Americans for Prosperity in the last 5 years Arkansas’ current Medicaid program has run a deficit of a billion dollars. Why expand it willingly with Obama? The “Do Nothing” expansion plan increases spending by 5.9 billion with 158,000 new recipients when the Gov. Beebe Expansion plan increases spending by 21.99 billion with 247,000 new recipients.

Let me give you several reasons that Max Brantley of the Arkansas Times Blog may be right about the Arkansas Republicans giving in and expanding the failed medicaid program in Arkansas.

1. The Arkansas Republicans are becoming convinced that if you expand a failed program then it will work better.

Milton Friedman puts it this way:

Suppose a private group undertakes the project. Suppose it starts to lose money. The only way that they can keep it going is by digging into their own pockets. They have to bear the costs. That enterprise will not last long; people will shut it down. They will go on to something else.

Suppose government undertakes the same project and its initial experience is the same: it starts to lose money. What happens? The government officials could shut it down, but they have a very different alternative. With the best of intentions, they can believe that the only reason it has not done well is because it has not been operating on a large enough scale. They do not have to dig into their own pockets to finance an expansion. They can dig into the pockets of the taxpayers.

Indeed, financing an expansion will enable them to keep lucrative jobs. All they need to do is to persuade the taxpayer, or the legislators who control the purse that their project is a good one. And they are generally able to do so because, in turn, the people who vote on the expansion are not voting their own money; they are spending somebody else’s money. And nobody spends somebody else’s money as carefully as he spends his own.

The end result is that when a private enterprise fails, it is closed down; when a government enterprise fails, it is expanded.

Did I fail to mention that the current Medicaid program is running a deficit of a billion dollars in Arkansas, and some lawmakers in Arkansas want to expand this program?

2. The Arkansas Republicans came into office to cut the size of government but now they are joining  all the 49 Democrats in the House in thinking that spending Washington’s money is spending someone else’s money when it really is expanding government and sticking it to the taxpayer ultimately.

Milton Friedman observed, “Nobody spends somebody else’s money as carefully as he spends his own.”

3. If the Arkansas Republicans line up with the Democrats and vote for expansion today then they have bought into the socialist policies the Democrats are pushing but ultimately this expansion of socialism will come crashing  down and we will not even be able to meet the obligations to the sick and most vulnerable that we already are serving

Milton Friedman’s final conclusion in this speech below is this, “There’s a general rule in government and bureaucratic enterprises: the more you put in, the less you get out.”

When John Fund of the Wall Street Journal came to Little Rock on 4-27-11 to speak he quoted Ronald Reagan in a speech to his campaign workers in 1976. Reagan said concerning socialism, “Whenever and wherever liberalism has been tried, it has always failed.”

This expansion of socialism in Arkansas is supported by the Democrats in Arkansas 100%. I never thought I would see the day that Republicans in Arkansas would consider expanding government with “somebody else’s money.” The sad fact is that is the taxpayer’s money!!!!!

Milton Friedman – Growing Government, Expanding Failure

Here is the transcript:

By any reasonable measure, the United States today is a little over fifty percent socialist. That is to say, more than fifty percent of the total resources in the country, of the total input, is directly or indirectly controlled by governmental institutions at all levels-federal, state, and local. Yet we in the United States have the highest standard of living of any country in the world. We are a very rich and prosperous country. It is an extraordinary tribute to the productivity of the market system that, with less than fifty percent of the resources, it can produce the kind of standard of living and the kind of society we have.

You are working from January 1 to close to June 30, or maybe somewhere after June 30, to pay for the direct and indirect cost of government. What fraction of your well-being comes from those government-controlled expenditures? Is it anything like fifty percent? I doubt very much that many of you would say it is.

The question that my puzzle raises is why is it that private enterprises are successful and government enterprises are not? One common answer is that the difference is in the incentive, that somehow the incentive of profit is stronger than the incentive of public service. In one sense, that’s night; but in another, it’s wrong.

The people who run our private enterprises and the people who run our government enterprises have exactly the same incentive. In both cases, they want to promote their private interests. The people who go into our government, who operate our government, are the same kind of people as those who are in the private sector. They are just as smart, in general. They have just as much integrity. They have just as many altruistic and selfless interests. There is no difference in that way. But as Armen Alchian, an economist at UCLA, once put it, “The one thing you can depend on everybody to do is to put his interest above yours.” That is a very insightful comment. The Chinese who are on the mainland are not different people from the Chinese who are in Hong Kong. Yet, the Mainland is a morass of poverty and Hong Kong has been an oasis of relative well being. The people who occupied West Germany and East Germany before they were reunited had the same background, the same culture. They were the same people, but the results were drastically different.

The problem is not in the kind of people who run our governmental institutions versus those who run our private institutions. The trouble, as the Marxists used to say, is in the system. The system is what is at fault.

The difference is that the private interest of people is served in a different way in the private and the governmental spheres. Consider the bottom line they face.

Here’s a project that might be suggested, to begin with, by somebody in the private sector or by somebody in the government sphere, and appears equally promising in either case. However, all good ideas are conjectures; they are experiments. Most are going to fail. What happens?

Isn’t that exactly what has been happening with drugs? With schooling? With medical care?

We are all aware of the deterioration in schooling. But are you aware that we are now spending per pupil, on the average, three times as much as we were thirty years ago, after adjustment for inflation? There’s a general rule in government and bureaucratic enterprises: the more you put in, the less you get out.
